Enid Sees Her Family Again

Summary:

Enid returns to the Sinclair Family home after the incidents at Nevermore…

But she doesn’t feel the same.

Notes:

CW //

MENTIONED HOMOPHOBIA (Enid talks about childhood homophobia for a bit)
FATPHOBIA (Enid’s mom makes a rude comment about Enid’s weight)
EMOTIONALLY ABUSIVE SINCLAIR MOTHER

This one is a sadder and angstier than the last part of this series, but it all works out in the end

You could actually probably skip this chapter and wait for the second half because it all sort of adds up by itself.

Anyways, I hate Enid’s mom.

Chapter 1: Enid Comes Home

Chapter Text

Enid laid on her childhood bed. She was back in San Francisco for the time being until the next Nevermore semester started. She honestly wished she was back at school.

As soon as she met up with her parents at the train station, it took her mother only seconds to comment on the facial scars she received from Tyler. Her heart pained to hear those words. Her brothers were no help. They haven’t stopped their noise since she got there. Their barking and recklessness basically shook the house. Noise-cancelling headphones could only do so much. She remembered what Wednesday said when she saw her scars: “Sick”. Which was the one of the nicest things she’d ever told her.

Ever since she got back, Enid couldn’t stop thinking of Wednesday. Even though they struggled sometimes, Enid heavily enjoyed being around Wednesday. She missed the sound of her typewriter clicking away. She missed her cold, dry remarks. She missed her.

Enid didn’t know why she couldn’t stop thinking of her. She decided to do something about it. She got up from her bed, headed over to her Bluetooth speaker, and flicked it on. Enid put on her playlist filled with K-Pop and other popular bands and turned up the volume. With no other option, Enid danced to the music for who knows how long until she was interrupted by someone opening her door.

“ENID SINCLAIR!!! TURN DOWN THE MUSIC!!!” Her mother barged in. Enid quickly ran to her speaker and turned it off. “Jesus Christ, Enid! Sounds like you’re trying to have a party in here,” her mother complained. “Dinner will be ready soon.” She began to walk out of the door. Enid quickly whispered under her breath, “The boys can basically destroy the house, but it’s the end of the world when I play my music.”Her mother turned around and growled, “What did you say?” Enid’s heart jumped at the remark, but she whimpered out, “N-nothing…” “That’s what I thought.” She slammed the door behind her.

Enid rolled her eyes and flopped onto her bed. There’s not too much time between now and dinner so she decided to text her sort of boyfriend: Ajax.

Enid: Hiiiii :3

Ajax: Hey :)

Enid: How r u?

Ajax: I’m alright hbu?

Enid: I’m borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrred

Ajax: Then do something

Enid: ur no help >:(

“FOOD’S READY!!!” A voice rang out. Enid groaned and tossed her phone to the side. She got out of her room and trotted out down the stairs. Her five brothers were already at the table yelling and rough housing. Her father, who was also at the table, saw Enid and gave a small wave. Enid smiled at her father and sat down at the table.

Her mother came out of the kitchen with a giant roasted chicken. Once she placed the chicken onto the table, the boys began to rip it apart. Enid tried her best to claw away her brothers, but once her brothers let go of the food, all that was left was the bones and some scraps of skin. Enid dejectedly grabbed the skins and placed them onto her plate. She stared at her poor excuse of a dinner.

“Come on, Enid, baby. Eat up,” her mother demanded. “There’s nothing to eat,” Enid said pointing at her plate. “Well, think of it like this Enid: You either eat it or you go to your room with no dinner at all,” her mother remarked. “Plus, it wouldn’t hurt to lose a few pounds…” she said under her breath.

Enid heard her words. She wasn’t hungry anymore. She left her plate and ran back up the stairs to her room. Once she slammed the door, Enid collapsed onto her bed and sobbed. She finally wolfed out and this is how her mother treats her? She wanted to go back to Nevermore. She wanted to go back with Wednesday. Even if Wednesday was weird and gross at times, she was a million times better that her own house.

An hour later, there was a knock on her door. “Come in.” Her father opened the door. He closed the door behind him and sat down right next to her. Enid nudged herself up against her father.

“I’m sorry about that, baby,” her father said. He rubbed her back with his hand. “You know how she gets.” Enid let out a few more sobs in agreements. Her father took out his wallet and handed her a twenty dollar bill. “Here. Take this and go get something good to eat.” Enid shoved the bill into her pocket and gave him a big hug.

——

The bright lights of tall buildings shined onto Enid as she strolled past the busy city. She had decided to take the trolley to Union Square to give herself some space to truly breathe. She stopped at a tiny pizza place and got herself a couple of slices.

As she ate her pizza, she contemplated what she should do next. She didn’t want to go back home with her parents, but she didn’t have anywhere else to go. Ajax went to Greece to visit his family and Yoko was living in Alaska at the moment due to the darkness around this time.

What about…

God, why couldn’t she stop thinking about Wednesday! Come to mention it, Wednesday had never mentioned what state she’s from.

Enid sighed as she took another bite from her pizza. She was sitting by the large window at the front of the store. With nothing else to do, she decided to people watch.

She loved doing this. Looking at the people passing by, making up stories for them, and somehow ending up being sad when they inevitably walk past her, never to be seen again.

There goes a young businessman with a trench coat, speed walking past her. He was probably late to something.

There goes a young child with his (presumed) grandfather holding hands as he blabbers about a new cartoon he watched. His grandfather listening intently to all he has to say.

And finally, there goes a couple of girls around her age… holding hands.

Enid was taught to look away when she saw two people of the same gender being affectionate. According to her mother, this type of behavior was “disgusting” and “wrong”.
But Enid couldn’t look away.

The couple entered the building and ordered at the front. They sat behind Enid on the same side of the booth. Enid used the reflection of the mirror to continue looking. The two girls chatted about this and that.

Then they kissed.

Enid’s heart skipped a beat. “God, I wish that was me…” she thought to herself. She wanted to be just like those girls: holding hands, going out to eat together, kissing. They were so unashamed… so proud… And she had a particular person come to mind when she thought of it.

Could she really…?
Really…?
Really be a lesbian?

No, no… that’s not possible… she was dating Ajax… And that immediately makes her not attracted to women.

She thought of something Yoko once told her, something that some lesbians experienced called comphet. According to Yoko, it was when a lesbian forces being attracted to men. Deep down, this was how she truly felt about him. Ajax is an awesome guy and the first boy she ever had a “crush” on, but not really someone she envisioned herself having a future with.

Oh my god…

It was all starting to make sense. That’s why she couldn’t stop thinking about Wednesday. She was…

In love with her.

Enid is a lesbian.

A part of her felt relieved with this revelation. She finally had an explanation as to why she felt this way. Something that helped her feel a bit more normal about herself.

But on the other hand, she worried about how the people she knew would react to the information. She knew her parents would never accept her. Yoko would, since she was also gay. Wednesday… Enid shook her head and blushed at the thought. She wouldn’t care, she doesn’t care about anything. Who knows if she’s even attracted to girls? She kissed Tyler, right?

But the first person she felt like she needed to talk to about it was…

As if on queue, she got a notification from her phone. She pulled it up to see who it was from.

Ajax: Hey. Can we talk?

Chapter Text

Enid replied instantly.

Enid: Yes.
Enid: Can we FaceTime?

She had already finished her pizza so she ran out of the door. She looked for a silent place to call him in. Enid found an alley with a cafe hidden in it. She sat at one of the tables outside, put her earbuds in her ears, and checked her phone for any reply.

Ajax: Yea sure

Without hesitation, she pressed the FaceTime icon and the phone began to ring. Her heart was beating at a million miles per second.

Ajax picked up immediately.

It was nine o clock at night for Enid, but seven in the morning the next day for Ajax. Enid’s eyes were attacked by the bright sunlight. It took a second to adjust, but soon she was able to see Ajax’s face. He gave an awkward smile. Enid returned the gesture with an equally awkward smile.

“Hey, Ajax! How’s it going over in Greece?” She asked with a fake peppy attitude.

“Oh! Uh… it’s pretty cool! I go here all the time so it’s nothing too special,” he responded sheepishly. “Listen, Enid… there’s something I need to tell you…”

“There’s something I need to tell you too,” she interrupted. It was now or never. She had no idea what Ajax was going to say, but she knew she needed to tell him about his sexuality before anything were to ever truly come from this relationship. She didn’t want to break his heart.

“Go ahead,” he said.

“I’m… I’m…” Enid felt like she couldn’t finish the sentence no matter how hard she tried. She began to hyperventilate. Ajax’s face grew concerned.

“Hey, hey, hey, Enid. It’s okay. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to,” he assured her.

“But I need to tell you!” she exclaimed with panic rising in her voice.

“Enid…“

“If I don’t tell you, this relationship will be horrible for the both of us!”

“Enid-“

“Then all of your friends are gonna hate me! And all of my friends are gonna hate you!”

“ENID!”

“Then we’ll hate each other and never be friends again-“

“ENID, JUST SPIT IT OUT!”

“I THINK IM A LESBIAN!”

Enid felt herself panting heavily. Her claws were out and her teeth bared. Luckily no one was around to hear her confession or see her claws grow.

Ajax stared at the screen in shock. Enid didn’t know what to say next.

“What…?” Ajax responded.

“I… I think I’m a lesbian, Ajax. I wanted to tell you right away because I’m still figuring it out myself. I just realized like fifteen minutes ago. I’m sorry if I disappointed you. I trust you a lot. And I’ve known you for the longest time, I feel like I can tell you anything. I just wanted to let you know before we kept on dating. I’m really sorry, Ajax. Please don’t tell anyone.”

After a few long seconds of silence, Ajax started giggling, which then turned into chuckling, which then turned into outright laughter. Enid was flabbergasted by the reaction, it almost offended her.

“Hey! I just came out to you and the first thing you do is laugh??? What’s your deal???” She asked angrily.

Ajax wiped a tear from his eye and calmed himself down.

“Enid… I called to tell you the same exact thing.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m gay, Enid,” Ajax admitted shyly.

Enid’s face lit up in relief.

“Really?” She asked with excitement in her voice.

“Yeah! I was gonna give you the exact same apology too,” he smiled.

Enid started to laugh as well.

“I’m so glad I get to call you my friend,” Enid sighed out as she wiped a tear from her eye. “Thanks for telling me, Ajax. I’m proud of you.”

“I’m proud of you too, Enid. I promise I won’t tell anyone.”

A few seconds of pure platonic bliss passed by before Enid asked:

“Oh my god, do you have a crush on someone?”

“W-WHAT?” Ajax screamed baffled.

“Well, if we came out in a similar way, I think we’d have a similar reason to realize we’re gay. So who?” She smirked.

“…promise you won’t tell?”

“I’d give you my pinky if I could.”

“I… have a crush on Xavier.”

“Whoa really? Where did that come from?”

“I don’t know! I feel like I hung out with him a lot at Nevermore cuz we were in the same dorm! And he’s really, really cool,” he blushed as he described.

“Haha, gay,” she replied

“Oh you’re one to talk! You just admitted having the same exact reason to come out too! I told you mine, now you gotta tell me yours!”

Enid panicked.

“I, UHHHH, LIED?”

Ajax gave a look of “yeah, right” through the camera.

“It’s… really, really embarrassing…” she admitted blushing.

“I promise I will not tell a single soul,” he promised.

Enid took a deep breath. She though of an elaborate way to make who she had a crush on more subtle. “Well… it’s someone we both know-“

“It’s Wednesday, isn’t it?”

“HOW DID YOU KNOW???”

Ajax sighed, “Enid, you’re like the only person that tolerates Wednesday. Also Yoko told me that you guys fight like a married couple anyways so it just made sense in my head.”

Enid shook her fist angrily towards the sky. “Yoko… the next time I see her I’m gonna let her have it!” She growled.

Ajax laughed at her reaction.

It was good to know that Enid had at least one close friend she could rely on to talk about. Sure, she’ll “miss” Ajax in that sense, but something more beautiful than a romance came out of that conversation: a wonderful platonic soulmate.

——

Enid walked to the front of the door to her house to open it. Right before she touched the door knob, a raven’s caw came from atop of her house. Enid looked up to see the bird which had an envelope strapped to its foot. Out of habit, she barked at it and jumped up to try to grab it. The bird dropped its package out of fright and flew away. The envelope landed in front of her feet. She bent down to pick it up.

The envelope was addressed to Enid, with the return address being…

If Enid’s tail was out, it would have started wagging. She giggled and opened the door. She sneaked past her mother asleep on the couch and headed into her room. She closed the door and opened the letter on her bed.

“Dear Enid,

I wrote in to check up on how you have been doing since our leave from Nevermore. I hope you’re doing well. I was wondering if there was an upcoming weekend where you weren’t busy so I could go to San Francisco to see you.

I suppose you can text me at my phone number if you want to respond to me faster. Just know that I will ONLY respond by mail.

I hope to hear from you soon. Thing misses you.

Sincerely,
Wednesday Addams”

Enid’s had a big smile on her face. She pulled out her phone and looked for Wednesday’s contact. Enid started to type away.

Enid: Hi, Wednesday!!! I’m so happy to hear from you :D I’ve been suuuuuuper bored so I’d love for you to come over! How about the weekend after this next one?

Notes:

Yay!!! First two parts of the series done! This next fic is gonna take a while longer to write since it’ll have more chapters than this one! And I lowkey got kinda burnt out. Hope you stick around for the next part :)
