Chapter Text
It was the night before a major exam and (Y/N) was cramming all the knowledge, and notes from their mountain of textbooks into their head as if their life depended on it (it kind of did).
Their grades were on the line, and usually they wouldn't care about it. But this time, their parents offered a deal that was just too valuable to pass up: get a high grade and be given a sizeable sum of money.
Although, (Y/N) was pretty sure that their parents were getting desperate at this point and were ready to start kneeling to convince their child to study.
But since that situation happened, (Y/N) had been studying (cramming) non-stop for an unhealthy amount of time, was it bad? Definitely. Would it be worth it in the end? There's a 50/50 chance.
Glancing at the clock above their desk, (Y/N) groaned at the time: 1:47am. Shit, it was late and the sleep deprivation was starting to seriously get to their overloaded brain. Maybe cramming was a bad idea after all.
Leaning back in their chair with a heavy and tired sigh, (Y/N) could start to the feel the imaginary weights pulling down their eyelids and the irresistible yawn that would make you stretch your limbs until they felt like snapping in two.
(Y/N) knew it was only a matter of time before they'd inevitably clock out stone cold and contemplated whether to continue cramming or give in to their body's needs.
They sighed again and sat up with vigor, 'Twenty more minutes wouldn't hurt..'
And just before they could lay a finger on the keyboard to switch to another subject, a familiar sound of a notification alerted (Y/N). Batting their barely open eyes to the lit up screen of their phone, they skimmed over the message.
▷ [ Version 3.3 Update! .... Update Maintenance begins on.. Estimated to take 5 hours.. ]
(Y/N) stared blankly at the now black screen, 'Oh yeah- the update with Scaramouche coming out... Wait. The update with Scaramouche!' Their eyes widened at the delayed thought, standing up from their seat with joy.
(Y/N) smiled gleefully, finally being able to get the one character they've been waiting for. Just five more hours to go and-
CRASH!
(Y/N) was too excited to remember they had iron deficiency and indefinitely blacked out. Normally, they could've walked it off but with additional sleep deprivation: it was too late.

A distant ping was heard somewhere, and a quiet whirring of a machine coming to life echoed in some faraway void.
▷ [ A new user has signed in. Welcome, welcome! Dear Traveler! \(^o^)/]
A blue menu screen appeared in front of a bamboozled (Y/N), their body nowhere in sight; only a faint orb in place of their appearance. 'Where the fu-'
▷ [ Traveler! ᓫ(°⌑°)ǃ Please don't curse! That is not a healthy habit to have! (;`O')o ]
'And what's with this distorted rip off Google Translate?' (Y/N) questioned, slightly irritated.
▷ [ What! Rip off?! Σ( ° △ °|||) ]
'Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. Didn't think menu screens could have feelings- Or read minds.'
The blue menu screen glitched for a second before returning back to showing text.
▷ [ Aah.. (_ _;) This system was hoping it would get a nice host for once wuwuu.. 〒▽〒 ]
'Oh, so you're a system. Like those transmigration stories I read... Hold on!- Am-.. Am I dead?!' The orb that was (Y/N), started to frantically dart around in panic. Why did they have to die that way? Perishing because of some game update?! Embarrassing!
The system stopped its wallowing in despair and responded like nothing happened.
▷ [ Not exactly Traveler, you're in a sort of coma for the time being. But! This system will definitely help you return to your body! ヾ(≧∇≦*)ヾ ]
(Y/N) could almost see the imaginary confetti shooting out from nowhere as the system seemed to be celebrating. They deadpanned, 'And how do I return to my body?'
The system froze and seemingly sweatdropped at the question.
▷ [ This system.. does not know! ∠(ᐛ 」∠)_ ]
(Y/N) didn't know whether to laugh or cry, 'So I'm stuck in this void forever-'
The menu screen perked up at this.
▷ [ No no! You'll be transported to another world and into a new body! Isn't that exciting? (≧∇≦)b ]
Not knowing how to respond, (Y/N) floated in silence to let the system continue speaking.
▷ [ Guessing that's a yes! ヽ( ·∀·)ノ Alright, no more dilly-dallying and let's get you transferred! ]

▷ [ Soul Transfer... Completed ]
▷ [ Linking to Vessel: Traveler... Failed > Soul Does Not Meet Necessary Requirements ]
▷ [ Compatible Vessel: Fungi > Linking... Linking Successful ]
▷ [ Transfer Successful ]
▷ [ Main quest has been initiated: A Fung-tastic Adventure! ]

▷ [ Welcome to Genshin Impact Traveler! See, tell me this isn't exciting! ψ(`∇')ψ ]
The first thing (Y/N) notices about their surroundings are the lush, shining overgrow of plants all around; the shallow and crystal clear streams meandering through patches of green grass; the rickety wooden cage that they're trapped in- 'Wait. System, why am I in a damn cage?!'
The menu screen popped out just outside the said cage and once again sweatdropped.
▷ [ There.. might have been an error with your transfer ahahh.. (;'д`)ゞ ]
(Y/N)'s body shook in rage, "Seriously! First, my body becomes stuck in some coma. Second, you transfer me into the very game that caused that and now this?! What's next huh?- AH FUCKING HELL."
(Y/N) jumps at the sight of a.. Is that a treasure hoarder? Standing right in front of them, his arms crossed with a frustrated glint in his eyes. "If you don't shut your trap in the next second, I'll kill you." (Y/N) did so immediately.
While silently panicking about the current predicament they were in, (Y/N) also takes note of the sheer size of the burly treasure hoarder. 'Is it me or is he like 10 feet taller- They probably drugged me or something to make me see- WHERE ARE MY ARMS.'
The system decided to look away-(; ̄□ ̄ )
To (Y/N)'s horror, they peered down or as much as they could to witness the absence of two limbs from their.. blue... body? Oh, how much (Y/N) wanted to pass out again and wake up to see that all of this was a dream.
Unfortunately sudden yelling and commotion from somewhere out of their peripheral vision; interrupted (Y/N) from falling any deeper into their misery.
A recognisable voice permeated through the chaos, "Let's nip that in the bud!" (Y/N) almost felt their soul leave their body again.
