Chapter Text

Yuna stared at her two best friends from afar; a red hue began to graze her cheeks as she watched the two boys spar. The power, intensity, and utter gracefulness both exuded frequently left her speechless. They were so powerful, and neither of them seemed to understand the gravity that their power held. The trio would come to this training ground every day except when they had a mission. Shisui, Itachi, and Yuna had a bond the village found could not be broken.

Yuna let out a yelp as she was snapped out of her daze by her Sharingan-wielding best friend, who sat inches away from her face. Yuna gazed over his features as his eyes scanned her face looking for an answer to her sudden aloofness. His sharingan flared as he checked Yuna's body language looking for any hints as to why she was reacting so weirdly to something that was incredibly normal for him.

"Shisui!!" Yuna huffed as she attempted to maintain her balance on the branch she was sitting on. "I have told you numerous times not to analyze me with your eyes like that." So she spoke as her blush deepened.

"Are you okay? You zoned out again. It's always fun to make you flustered when I catch you out of it" Shisui let out a giggle, grinning a mischievous smile as the sun settled on his skin, causing a beautiful glow and his eyes to shine.

"One of these days, I'm going to accidentally hurt you." Yuna's response caused Shisui to laugh even harder, as her face now matched the color of Shisui's sharingan. Was he really going to be this arrogant about his power in front of me?

"Yuna," Itachi called from the ground below, "How is it that your mother is a legendary sanin, yet Shisui always manages to catch you off guard?" Yuna's anger-fueled eyes turned her gaze down to Itachi; he stood at the foot of the tree, staring up at the two with amused eyes. Two of their best friends were sitting in a tree. He debated leaving the pair alone but ultimately decided against doing so as Shisui started talking to his best friend, who sat on the tree.

"It's your turn," Shisui sang, which led to Yuna furthering her annoyance towards him; she hated when Itachi and Shisui ganged up on her like this. Of course, she knew to expect it since they had had the same behavior since childhood, but she was still annoyed. Don't even get me started on when I started my period for the first time. These two were utter idiots.

"I hate you both," She mumbled as she jumped down the tree, ensuring she took Shisui with her. Unlike those two, Yuna often didn't seem to land as gracefully but would smash into the ground like a rock to scare them whenever she wanted to. The ground rumbled beneath her feet as the two boys jumped up, avoiding the earthquake her body seemed to cause. This was a behavior she had picked up from her mother. Shisui struggled to regain his footing, which caused a giggle to escape her lips at the sight of him working.

"Who's first?" Yuna yawned as she stretched out her limbs while looking at the two. Shisui sweat dropped at Yuna's act. He knew damn well she knew who was first.

"Not it!" Shisui called, putting his finger to his nose. Yuna's gaze drifted towards Itachi, and she immediately ran at the boy. Time to see how he's improved and surpassed me at this point.

"Alright, Ita-kun, show me your worst." She rolled her eyes and went to throw a punch at Itachi, but he immediately blocked her fist and went to strike with his own at the opening. Yuna ducked before kicking his leg out before the duo was interrupted.

Yuna's favorite silver-haired ninja jumped down from his hiding place in a tree that was very noticeably close to their training ground. He waltzed over, crossing his arms, and his eyes held a mischievous look as he stared at the lot of them.

"Oi, Itachi, Yuna, Shisui, we have a mission; get ready to meet at the gates before sundown," he stated so casually, causing Yuna to groan. They had just finished a mission yesterday, it wasn't even noon yet, and our poor protagonist was still exhausted. Sometimes she just wanted to train to spend her time with her friends. Yuna loved being in ANBU, but damn did she find it rough sometimes; they are always the ones sent on missions. But that's the life of prodigies. Her entire team was just prodigies. Each graduated the academy before age 10, and each was pushed into ANBU the second they became chunin. Team Ro was truly stacked with powerful ninjas.

"Kakashi, I was just about to spar. Can we at least grab food before we leave?" Annoyance dripped from her voice at the fact that, yet again, she couldn't actually train or even fully rest and recuperate from the strain of the last mission. Her hands found a new host in her light purple hair, finally putting her leg down. This was something Yuna assumed that she had inherited from her father. In truth, Yuna had never even met him, so she could not fully know what features she truly got from him. Yuna had never even seen a picture of the man; her mother had left her when she was only six, so any photos were lost the second Tsunade left her own child alone in an empty home.

The silver-haired man made his way over to Yuna. Kakashi towered over her; since she had known him, he was always taller than her. Although she was four years younger than him, he had always treated her like an equal. Yuna was shorter than most ninjas. Even though Itachi was younger than her by four years, he was still taller than her, while he and Shisui seemed to be the exact same height.

"You have a couple hours to get supplies and eat. After that, the three of you will meet Tenzo and me at the gates, where I will brief you on the mission. Got it, shorty?" he bent down to my eye level, Kakashi may have treated her like an equal, but he knew whenever he made fun of her height, it would piss her off to no end. In Yuna's opinion, making fun of her stature was not something she enjoyed being teased over; it was not okay.

"Fine," She muttered before slamming her fist on his head in annoyance. A satisfied laugh left her throat as she watched him sweat drop over her sudden attack.

"Why do you always hit me, Yuna-chan? It's not fair," he grumbled as he began to sulk, slowly trying to get a safe distance from the young kunoichi.

"Because you're an idiot who spends his time reading porn Kakashi-kun."

"Well, maybe if you weren't so short and tiny, I wouldn't have to get down on your level to explain things to you." He knew immediately that he had fucked up, so he waved and ran for his life.

"I will END you." Yuna started to run after him before a pair of strong arms held her back, her head hit their chest with a thud, and her brown eyes glanced up to meet Shisui's dark ones.

"Yuna, let's not kill our squad leader right now, okay? We still have a couple of hours before our mission; how about you let me get you dinner, and we can spar when we get back?" Yuna raised her eyes to meet Shisui's, his gentle but worried smile was on his face, and she let out a huff as she watched the annoying silver-haired jonin disappear into the distance. Shisui had seemingly accepted the huff as acceptance which earned a smile from the beautiful boy.

"Ita-kun, are you going to join us? Or are you going to go see Izumi-chan?" Yuna turned her gaze to Itachi, smirking slyly. Shisui tightened his grip on her arms as if he was anticipating Itachi's response. Damn, his grip is STRONG.

"Actually, I promised to see Sasuke. I'll bring our usual supplies to the meeting point." A soft smile traced his lips, and as he spoke to Yuna, she felt a light smile catch her face. Itachi always affected her; he could calm her down no matter how she felt just with his soft smile. Sometimes she even wondered how a 12-year-old was so calm. It made zero sense. When she was 12, she was annoying as hell compared to him. Yuna remembered how Shisui and herself would talk nonstop about nothing in particular. Still, they would go for hours which would annoy everyone in a 10-mile radius. She watched him jump away until Shisui's grip relaxed around her, and instead of holding Yuna's arms, he reached down to grab her hand.

He intertwined their fingers, causing another light blush to spread across Yuna's cheeks. This was an effect only Shisui had; the boy could make her blush just by smiling. He was just oh so beautiful.
"Yunnnnnaaa, stop zoning out!! I'm hungry and want to change before we leave," She sighed, snapping her little brain out of the initial thoughts before letting Shisui drag her away from the training ground.
The duo stopped in front of Ichiraku's. She immediately released a happy sigh of relief upon smelling her favorite place in the world. Ramen, oh my sweet, beautiful, and delicious ramen. She wiped the drool that was starting to form off her mouth.

"You and your ramen," Shisui muttered. This time Yuna dragged him into the shop. Shisui was only a year older than her; the two became best friends by 6 and 7, and the duo had become inseparable. It was only Shisui and Yuna until he hit 11, and he introduced her to the final person in their group, Itachi. Itachi was the only one who had managed to wiggle their way in. Both held such fondness for the younger boy. Everyone knew how close the trio was; if one of them were somewhere, there was no doubt that one or two were close behind. Even though the trio was all squad leaders in ANBU, their missions were quicker and more successful when the trio was together. They also stunned everyone because their clans, who had once been at each other's necks, had somehow found a home in each other.

Yuna found herself drifting into space again as she remembered young Shisui, the cute little boy she had once known who had turned into a man. He had somehow grown into one of the most beautiful people she knew. He was only 16 and already had a little fandom in the village; Shisui being as humble as he was, would never acknowledge them that way and instead just dragged Yuna along with him almost everywhere so he would rarely get approached. Some girls were brave and would still come, but Shisui would always grab Yuna's hand and say no. They weren't dating, but to the entire village, Yuna and Shisui basically were.
Her thoughts were promptly brought to a standstill by Shisui, who had begun speaking. She hadn't even realized he had ordered her favorite dish for the young kunoichi.

"Still no news from your mother?" Shisui whispered as she stared at the bowl in front of her.

"Huh?" Yuna looked at the boy, who was now red in the face looking at her with concern, his eyes were sparkling, and she began to wonder what made his face turn such a bright shade of red.

"Are you okay?" He whispered again; placing his chopsticks down, he grabbed her hand and started drawing circles in Yuna's palm as a sign of comfort.

I would always tell Shisui I was okay, I was not particularly eager to burden him or Itachi with the 15-year-old girl stuff I had going on, but truthfully, I was starting to question a lot that was happening within myself, within him, within the village and within his clan.

Upon entering the Uchiha compound, the once friendly greetings from the clan turned to nervous and anxiety-ridden gazes, sometimes downright hate-filled glances from the police force. It had been on Yuna's mind a lot; even visits to Itachi's house had become less frequent because instead of Fugaku and Mikoto, Fugaku had been glaring at the young girl recently, and Mikoto seemed on edge. Even though they had once treated Yuna as if she was their own child. She was scared she would lose Itachi and Shisui, but she could never admit that to them. Shisui would tell her I'm stupid, and Ita would most likely agree.

"I'm okay; I've just got a lot on my mind" Yuna smiled at Shisui, hoping to ease the growing concern she could practically smell from him. But, instead, he furrowed his brows deep in thought before speaking again.
"And is there anything I can do to help ease your mind? Do you want to talk? Is it the missions? Oh my god, it's a boy? Who is he? Tell me everything. I'll kill him if he lays a finger on you," He said, getting closer to her, grabbing her other hand and holding them firmly. Shisui was shaking, and his eyes showed even more nervousness and anxiety than before.

"Shisui, the only men I see are you, Itachi, Tenzo, the Hokage, and Kakashi, so no, no boy problems here." Yuna couldn't help but notice his shoulders slump in what seemed relief as he fell back into his seat. "We can talk later, just not right now, Shisui. I'm not in the talking about my feelings mood," Yuna whispered; Shisui then leaned over across the table and put a gentle kiss on her hand.

"I am always here for you. You know how much I love hearing what goes on in your beautiful mind." This wasn't the first time he had done or said something like this, but Yuna would suddenly feel weak in the knees every time he did. Shisui could permanently erase anything else in her mind and focus on one thing, him. Yuna had always had feelings for him, even when they first became friends, but she never once acted upon them for fear of ruining the friendship. Yuna couldn't lose him, or Itachi for that matter. The three had been through too much for her to destroy it over love. She most definitely didn't want to end up like her mother.
Instead, she finished up her ramen and gave him a soft smile.

"Come on, Shisui, let's get ready for the mission." He nodded before taking out his wallet and paying, he never let her pay when she was with him, and it annoyed her every single time. Noticing his purple-haired friend's expression Shisui immediately sweat-dropped.

"I'm being a gentleman!!" He stated, which caused Yuna to laugh at his guilt.

"I can pay for my own stuff Shisui. You don't have to do that." She huffed before yanking him by his shirt and dragging him out of the shop, and taking him to her place.

"A gentleman pays for his lady's meals!"

"And am I your lady?" She giggled, turning to face him. Although she was slightly curious at his answer. Is this what Shisui thought of me? Was I? What if he returned those feelings, and I was just an idiot who never realized it.

"I-uh," he started sweating; nervousness flooded his entire being as he stared at Yuna. Both typically two very confident people suddenly became very nervous, but she wasn't going to admit that to him.
"Alrighty then, come on, we're almost here."

Yuna lived in a small house. Since her mother left, it was just herself, but Shisui practically lived there. He didn't really have a home; his family had died when he was younger, so he spent most of his time at Yuna's place. He and Itachi were over constantly, so there was always random stuff around. She tried to keep her home as clean as possible, wondering if her mother would suddenly appear. Still, with those two, sometimes it seemed impossible. She went into the bathroom to change her ANBU gear before looking in the mirror.

Yuna stared at her reflection in the mirror; at 15, she looked like a miniature Tsunade, but instead of the signature brown eyes, mine were a dark black, and she had purple hair. Although she always wished she looked like her mother more, Lord Third always told the child how Yuna looked like Hashirama and her father, which annoyed her to no end because, unlike her parents, she had inherited wood-style jutsu. Something that the entire village believed had died with the First Hokage but had found a home within Yuna and her excellent friend Tenzo.

She often felt she was viewed as a replication of Hashirama or Tsunade, not Yuna. Truthfully, Yuna wanted to be seen for who she was, not what everyone else wanted to see her be.
