Chapter Text
Click! Whirrrrrrrrr…..
The machine began to glow a faint blue, the color leaking out into the room from the gaps between the plates that covered the robotic makings insides. The android sat, booting its systems to complete functionality for the time since it had been created and deactivated.
It opened its eyes, and a bright, luminous teal poured from them into the dimly lit room as its synthetic voice spoke through the human-like mouth.
“Running functionality checks. Internal processors, functional. Information Storage, functional. Mobility, functional. Touch sensors, functional. Sight sensors, functional. Presents, loaded. Please wait as I finish setting things up…”
There was a silence in the room, electrical whirring and processing was all that could be heard. A minute passed, then another, and finally, the human-shaped robot blinked once more, then tilted its head up to look at the engineer that activated it.
“Greetings. I am Mechanical Intelligence Keeping Unit number 6247. My creator called me M.I.K.U 6247, but you're welcome to call me whatever you please.” The android blinked. “Beginning startup protocol. I have been deactivated for 61,492 years. All of my processors and systems are online and functioning as expected. My code says because you have activated me, the M.I.K.U before I must not be acting up to code, and now I must travel to the Clocktower located in Beltmor to maintain and repair it as needed.”
“Good… that seems to be working.” The engineer noted to herself, writing on her clipboard. “And where are we currently located?”
“Our current location is Ancient Gear. I'm not aware of anything more besides the name of our location, but I know where everything is.”
“Alright….” She wrote down a little more. “And what are the 3 settlements closest to us?”
It looked to the to the side for a moment, blinked again, then re-focused on the engineer. “First is Zeltz to the south, then west is Brook Lane. Lastly, Khindale North-West.”
“Alright!” The engineer wrote a little more, then set her clipboard to the side. “You seem to be working properly, 6247. Your escort should be here in the morning and then you can start going East, just as you planned.”
The engineer got up from the chair she had sat in, Miku still sitting on the table. Walking to her computer, she sat down and began to type.
“Escort?” Miku questioned with a blink. “I am not supposed to have an escort, it is not said in my programming. I am capable of arriving in Beltmor on my own.”
“Hah.. well….” The engineer paused for a moment, chuckling nervously before resuming. “Beltmor requested you be escorted, so that's what's going to happen. You can't leave on your own this time, sorry.”
Miku blinked and reviewed its code. 'Active < check processors < leave for the assigned location as soon as possible'. It slid off of the metal table, the leather boots it wore tapped against the floor as it landed. Walking straight ahead to where a door had been, it twisted the handle and opened it, only to be met with a large metal wall. The engineer didn't pause this time, she just spoke while buried in her computer.
“We're in lockdown until your escort arrives. Just… hang around until he gets here. There's no way out.”
“.... Very well,” Miku replied, the glow of its eyes following its gaze as it returned to the table, lifting back on top of it and sitting once more. “Entering power saving mode. To exit this mode manually, please touch me. I will exit automatically at dawn.”
