Chapter Text
“Okay, but this is so dumb. How are we supposed to find someone to play the role on such short notice?” Fang slumped over on the old brown sofa in his basement- or more accurately, his and Buster’s hangout room. The Buster in question was sorting through piles and piles of movie discs and occasionally tinkering with his hunky video camera, or the ancient television that stood like a monument next to a shuddering washing machine and a nearly dead dryer.
Buster blinked, a rare sight considering his obsession with wearing his sunglasses. “Hey man, no need to be so down! If you still want to swap places with me, go ahead!”
Fang considered it for a moment. He and Buster shared a video production class together, and now their teacher had them make a short film- a romantic one, to be specific. Unfortunately, there weren’t enough people in their class, and now the two movie geeks were being forced to find someone willing to play the other part.
Fang shrugged with his shoulders as he tossed some popcorn in his mouth. “Alright, dude, you know I can’t work a camera. It’s fine! We’ll make it work.” He sat up, mulling over his options once again. “Uh… any ideas?”
“Like I said before… how about Janet? You two were like, made for each other. Like, a perfect Lola movie!” suggested Buster good-naturedly, not knowing that the very sentence sent Fang’s stomach into a twisted knot.
Fang never uttered a word about these things, but truth be told, he hated his school’s social expectations. Janet was the queen bee of the school, head cheerleader, star singer. Fang was the one and only soccer prodigy, martial arts expert, and action movie aficionado (next to his best friend Buster, of course).
Fang didn’t think that just because they were both quite popular in their unnecessarily gendered friend circles, that they were meant to be. To be even more honest, Janet kind of scared him- not that Fang even knew much about her other than what everyone else knew anyways.
Fang frantically searched for an excuse. “Janet is like… uh… she’s way too busy! No way she could devote time out of her packed schedule for our class project. No way!”
“Alright, I guess so… hmmm…” Buster peered at his long-haired friend curiously.
Fang sighed with relief. But he didn’t know how much longer he could hide.
