Jiang Cheng glares at the stack of paperwork, as if by willpower alone he could set it on fire and thus free himself from the tyranny of sect responsibilities, if only for an evening. Alas.
He reaches out and nudges the pile, dislodging the top layer and revealing a letter that he can’t believe he missed. He yanks it free, eyes drinking in the familiar, elegant script.
Huaisang.
He smiles at the talisman that seals the paper, even as he blushes at the audacity of that man. He looks around, ensuring that none of his underlings have snuck in, and waves a hand, activating the talismans on his windows and door. Thus assured of his privacy, Jiang Cheng takes the letter and retreats to his private rooms.
Even after all this time, Jiang Cheng feels a shiver of embarrassment at the wave of feelings that crashes over him as he brings the letter to his lip and kisses the talisman. A flash of golden light fills his vision and the faint odor of pine and snow swirls around him as the ghost of a kiss presses his lips.
