6 School Times

Summary:

An insight of Odile's school days with Tris.

Notes:

Work Text:

Odile wondered if he was even fit for his position in the council. The pile of finished paperwork hardly amounted to anything than the ones he hadn’t finished yet. The sight of it made him frown and that nagging feeling in his chest persisted.

As if the latter noticed, Tris came and offered his assistance. As much as he’d appreciated such an offer, it only further proved that he was not fit for–

“Your estimations are accurate and your reports summarized everything well,” Tris said with a smile, “keep up the great work, Odile.”

And so he kept on going.

.

Odile watched as most of theirs peers flocked to them once he and Tris entered the school premises. Women and men as well as bird demons and those of different species gathered around them. The pair was showered with wide smiles, praises, and those bright eyes by the lot of them.

But of course, as he turned from them and returned his gaze to Tris, he couldn’t help smiling at him. Rather than himself, he thought it was Tris who shone the brightest…

And he could wish that the latter stayed the way he was; to him, Tris was perfect.

.

From the exhaustion of juggling between schoolwork and his responsibilities as school president, Odile struggled to pay attention to his current class. Only did he wake when something landed on his hand; it was a paper wrapped around a small rectangular thing. Curiously, he unrolled it and found an energy bar inside.

There was also a note and it read:

Hope this helps. -Tris

At that, his chest felt warm. The latter wasn’t the type to break rules, even the most trivial ones, so for him to throw paper at him when the professor wasn’t looking…

It made him happy.

.

“You must be Odile, I’ve heard so much about you from Curse!”

Odile didn’t think he’d meet the latter’s older sister, especially on her last semester. But here she was, standing before him.

“Yes,” politely did he nod at her, “is there something you need?”

Gleefully with an energy that was a stark contrast to the constant calm and collected Tris, Harpy nodded. “Yes, he forgot about this!”

And a box was shoved into his arms.

“Do take care of him!” she told him before bolting through the hallways, possibly for her next class.

“I will,” and he meant it.

.

He grimaced, annoyed with himself as he and Tris stared down at his failure of a creation. Then, he turned his focus to his blasted hands that couldn’t stop turning everything it touched into an ice block!

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” It was supposed to be a sweet treat for Tris who worked hard on his share of paperwork in the council, but he…

In response, the latter waved idly as if to calm him down and said, “it’s fine. Not to mention, it’s hot nowadays so this will help.”

A smile was sent his way and he felt relieved.

.

During their breaks and whenever their workload wasn’t too much, he and Tris would sit by a riverbank and enjoy cool air blowing at their faces. Though he couldn’t enjoy it as much since there was a thought that been weighing on his mind.

He looked at Tris, nervous, “your sister’s graduating soon, right?”

“In about two weeks.”

“Say, Tris…”

“Hm?”

Odile was finding the right words before finally telling the latter. “Do you think after we graduate, we can work together?”

“I’d like that,” a reply he hadn’t expected from him, but it was all he needed to hear.
