Chapter Text
“ONE minute! God damn, stop destroying my door!” Jeongin shouts at Jisung who’s been knocking for the past three minutes, telling him to hurry up.
“Jeongin, we’re just going to go to the org fair!” Jisung shuts up the moment that Jeongin opens up his door, fully giving a death stare, “Finally! Why are you so slow in dressing up?”
“And why are you so pushy and excited for this org fair? You literally woke me up at 7 in the morning when you know damn well that the fair starts at 10 A.M., which is about 15 minutes from now.” Jeongin states, which Jisung rolls his eyes at.
Jisung puts his arm around Jeongin’s shoulder, which the latter tries to shrug it off, “We have to get breakfast before it starts, and it’s not a crime to be punctual.”
Jeongin scrunches his nose up, “You just want to be punctual today because the person you’ve been pining on for months is the one who’s leading the volleyball organization and the leader of the team.”
Jisung chokes at Jeongin’s words, “I will neither confirm nor deny that statement. Your accusation aside, let’s go now, I’m really hungry.”
As they leave their apartment, they go to the nearest convenience store and buy their first meal of the day. They talk about the organizations that are open for new members and the potential organizations or sports teams that they want to sign up for.
“I know you want to sign up for the volleyball team and only the volleyball team,” Jeongin stops to swallow his food before continuing what he’s about to say, “I’ve been your friend since we were kids, and I know you like the back of my hand, like I know that you’ll do anything to get into the team.”
Jisung playfully shows his tongue out to Jeongin, “Well yeah, aside from having a crush on their leader, yes, I’m admitting it now, stop giving me that smug look,” he pauses to squint at his friend, “I want to try out for the libero position.”
“I believe that you’ll get that position, Sungie. You’ve been in love with the sport and have been practicing it for years, I know you’ll ace the tryouts once you sign up.” Jeongin encourages Jisung, to which Jisung smiles at him.
“Thank you, Innie. Who knew you would be this wise?” Jisung fake cries. Jeongin smacks the back of his head, leading the two to have a smacking fest.
“Okay, stop!” Jeongin says, forcing the words to come out of him as he is giggling, “It’s now 10, do you want to roam around, or do you want to go straight to your lover boy?”
“I’ll go straight to the volleyball team table, can you come with me first before looking for any organizations that you find interesting?” Jisung stands up, throwing away his trash, Jeongin following suit.
“Yeah, sure. I’ll give moral support to you, I guess.” Jeongin shrugs, following Jisung to where the volleyball team table is.
When they arrive at the table, someone with short hair and an eyebrow slit greets them, “Hi, you two! Oh, hi Jisung! Are you interested in joining our team?” The said person smiles, his cheek whiskers forming and his eyes disappearing.
“Hi, Hyunjin!” Jisung smiles back, his cheeks starting to redden. Jeongin takes a mental note of Jisung’s crush’s name and his friend’s blushing. “Yeah, I’m interested in joining the volleyball team!”
“That’s great, Sungie! How about your friend here?” Hyunjin gestures to Jeongin.
“Ah, no, sorry. I don’t play volleyball.” Jeongin declines, scratching the back of his neck.
“No worries! Maybe you can find other organizations that you could join,” Hyunjin says, smiling at both of them, “I’ll just explain things to you Sungie, and make you sign up a form, then I’ll let the two of you go.”
Jeongin tunes out the conversation between the two, he feels like Jisung’s crush isn’t one-sided, and he feels like he’s third-wheeling right now. He looks around to see other organizations that are near the volleyball table.
What catches Jeongin’s attention though, is another student. “ Cute. ” Jeongin thinks to himself, as he sees the student wearing a sweater that is bigger than him, making him have sweater paws.
Jeongin doesn’t realize it himself that he’s walking towards the booth, feeling gravitated by the mysterious student who’s fixing his hair that was being attacked by the wind, a pout forming on his lips.
“Hello! Thank you for visiting the Basketball table. Would you be interested in joining our team?” Jeongin gets startled a little bit, to which the person who greeted him giggles lightly.
“Oh, hi! Yeah, I’m interested in joining the team.” Jeongin says to the person leading the booth, Chan is written on their placard.
“ What the fuck am I agreeing to? I just got curious because of the cute guy who’s behind this Chan dude, why am I doing this? ” Jeongin scolds himself, looking down at his hands. “ I don’t even remember when was the last time I played basketball. ”
“Great! My name is Chan, and I’m the leader of the whole team. Changbin, over here,” Chan gestures to his right, and the said person waves at Jeongin, smiling shyly, “would be the one explaining you things and would explain to you the form that you’re going to sign.”
Jeongin thanks Chan as Changbin walks in front of him. Changbin places the form on the table, and looks up at him.
“Hi, I’m Changbin, I’m kind of a helper in the team while the coach is away. What is your name?” Changbin introduces himself, reaching his hand for a handshake.
“My name’s Jeongin, it’s nice to meet you!” Jeongin holds Changbin’s hand, both of them feeling their cheeks redden.
Chan, who’s seeing this unfold behind them, shakes his head, a smile forming on his face. He takes a mental note to talk about this rare occurrence of Changbin blushing to Hyunjin.
“So,” Changbin lets go of Jeongin’s hand, and he immediately regrets it, feeling how his hand was warm when the other was holding it, “I’ll be explaining to you the tryouts, what’s the content of the form, and what the team is all about.”
Jeongin gets distracted again in Changbin's eyes, on how they sparkle with every word he talks about, he sees how passionate Changbin is about his team, even though he’s not a player. Jeongin also gets distracted on Changbin’s pouty lips, and how he talks with such fondness and softness.
Jeongin’s suddenly feels aware of his thoughts, and the implications of his thoughts. He swears to himself that as early as now, it’s only a crush.
“You can sign over here if you have no more questions,” Jeongin returns to reality as Changbin points to where the signature form is, “If you have questions, I’ll be glad to answer them! My number and my social accounts are written on the form.”
Jeongin signs two of the forms, one for his personal copy and one for the team’s copy. He thanks Changbin for taking his time in explaining, smiling at him.
Changbin blushes at Jeongin’s smile, to which he mentally scolds himself for having such a crush at this fast rate.
“Oh, before you go, Jeongin,” Chan says, Jeongin makes a confused face at him, “Is it okay to ask that you and Changbin take a picture? It’s our tradition to take a picture with every person that we recruit on our team.”
“Oh,” Jeongin widens his eyes, his brain short-circuiting at the thought that he’s going to have a picture with a cute guy, and him forming a crush in the shortest time that he met the guy, “Sure, it’s fine by me!”
Chan nods at Jeongin, and if he is lying right now, that they actually weren’t taking pictures of the new recruits, Jeongin doesn’t need to know.
Changbin is utterly confused at Chan’s request, but he still walks to where Jeongin is standing. Jeongin thinks that their height is perfect for Changbin to lean on his shoulder, making himself blush at that thought.
“Changbin,” Jeongin calls out, to which the latter hums as a sign of acknowledgment, “Is it o-okay if I hold your shoulder?” God damn it, Jeongin’s stuttering because of a cute guy.
“Y-yeah, it’s okay.” Changbin nervously smiles at Jeongin, feeling his heart beat faster.
Jeongin holds Changbin’s shoulder, making them stand closer to each other.
And if they’re blushing while smiling widely at the picture, no one needs to know, and no one will know except for Chan and his phone.
