Chapter Text
There’s a subtle pop-up on Jungkook’s home screen as he scrolls through phone. He absent-mindedly taps on it and quickly returns to the Home screen as he rolls his eyes.

“That’s dumb.” Jungkook drops his phone in favor of focusing back to the document opened in his laptop. He checks the wordcount. 11,740 and going. Good enough.
His living room is filled with the sound of his fingers tapping the keyboard, stopping every now and then to read back and correct minor mistakes before continuing. His writing process has always been a peaceful one, and even if sometimes there isn’t time to write something new, Jungkook treasures the time he’s given to enjoy this hidden passion of his.
The story that had started as a random idea on his head is finished before it’s time for dinner, and Jungkook reads it from start to finish while the soundtrack of his favorite TV series soothes his ears. His smile grows as he reads and he knows this fic will be a good one.
He goes through the motions of posting in a familiarized manner. The title had been thought out weeks ago, as well as his summary and tags, and the thankful message to his readers gets written extremely fast, full of honesty and the eagerness that comes with sharing his work with those that care enough to read it.
Once it’s up, he scrolls through it to make sure nothing goes amiss, and he opens a tab for his social media to make a quick post.

Thank you everyone for your continuous support! Here is something special for you!
His post is sent with no issues and Jungkook decides to play videogames to take his mind away from the nerves of wondering how his story will perform. Jungkook feels lucky as he plays incredibly good, a winning streak that has him yelling in excitement every time a round of Overwatch finishes. He goes to his kitchen to grab something to drink when he decides to check the replies to his tweet.
can’t believe we’re getting two 10+k fics on the same day!
jk and suga posting on the same day is the best thing to happen today
do you think they agreed on this? nah fam i call this destiny
With a sinking feeling starting to grow on his stomach, Jungkook searches suga’s account from another account - he doesn’t want recommendations for suga’s tweets on his timeline, thank you very much. Before the page fully loads, the first post he sees makes him freeze in place.

Jungkook calls his best friend before his mind can catch up to his actions.
“Hello?”
“He’s out to get me, I swear!”
Jimin sighs on the other end of the line. “What did your author rival do this time?”
It’s obvious Jimin isn’t taking things as serious as he is, but Jungkook still continues. “He uploaded a story at the same time as I did, he’s the worst copycat there.”
“Jungkook, come on. How would he know you were planning to post today?”
Jungkook shrugs. “I don’t know. I’d been teasing a bit on Wednesdays, maybe he predicted I’d finish soon and tried to get the upper hand.”
“Didn’t you tell me fic writers often did that? Your Wednesdays to post your progress?” Jungkook is quiet and Jimin laughs. “I don’t think this author synced your posts on purpose. Take it just as a big coincidence and leave it alone.”
“I can’t not say anything! People will think he posted first, I’m sure, and he’ll be subtweeting me bragging about it.”
Jimin is quiet. “Don’t you think you’ll be seen as the bad one if you start picking up fights with other writers?”
“It’s not writers, hyung, it’s just him I have a problem with.” Jungkook frowns as he looks down at the kitchen counter, drink long forgotten.
“Don’t do anything reckless, Jungkook-ah. You might end up regretting it, okay?” Jimin warns.
“I’ll think about it. Thanks, hyung.”
Jungkook hangs up and goes back to Twitter before he can second guess himself. He types furiously and hits ‘send’ before turning off his phone. He has nothing more to say for the day.

“Hyung, don’t do it.”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow at Namjoon, who sits next to him on the couch of their shared apartment. “The kid started it first, don’t I get the right to write something back?”
“He didn’t mention you at all.”
He rolls his eyes. “Come on, Namjoon-ah, you know subtweeting as well as I do. Who else posted something at the same time and is already on his bad books, according to you?”
Namjoon sighs but doesn’t give up. “Maybe he’s misunderstanding things, you’ll only make this matter bigger if you do the same. You’re both my friends, come on.”
“You actually see my face,” Yoongi counters. “Can you tell JK didn’t post this specifically to single me out?” Namjoon doesn’t answer and that’s what Yoongi was waiting for. “Friend or not, you reap what you sow.”
The mocking message is still visible on his phone when he unlocks it.
some people will do their most to steal a moment of genuine excitement. learn from this everyone, rushing to post a messy story in a senseless race with a rare pair you force to make true isn’t the way to go.
“That’s dumb,” he mutters, his fingers already tapping away.
Next time don’t be afraid of tagging the ones that supposedly wrong you @jklocked
Some people just want to pretend like everything is about them when no one was caring about them, right? Learn from this everyone, not everything, in fact, is about you. Grow up a little.
He knows he’ll receive a talk from Namjoon when he finds out what he wrote, but Yoongi couldn’t care less. If JK wants so much to start beef with him, Yoongi won’t be the one to stay quiet and just let the subtext come at him without some retailation.
A DM notification appears on his phone and Yoongi taps on it without thinking about it. A chat history filled with short, hatred-filled sentences shows up on his screen, and there, the most recent one reads:
you’re an asshole.
Yoongi just rolls his eyes and leaves a crying face reaction to the message before leaving Twitter for the day. Another day, another fight.
