Chapter Text
“Now… What do I put here?” Ruki asked Ren with a confused look on his face.
“Are you serious? You told me you were gay like this morning!”
Ruki was so stressed when he came out to Ren this morning.
“I think I’m gay,” he said, trying to catch his breath. He ran all the way to the campus to tell Ren as soon as possible.
“That’s cool Ruki!” Ren replied.
“No. No that’s not cool, I don’t know what to do with this information and I just don’t know how I can be sure either. Like I might be bisexual, but I just don’t know anything at this point.”
“Breathe, Rukkun.” Ren spoke while laughing.
“Figuring your sexuality out can drive you crazy, it’s normal that you feel this way. In the end, you’re still the same person, you are you.”
“Don’t give me that philosophical bullshit Ren it’s literally 9 A.M.” Ruki said, while sitting on the chair next to Ren and putting his backpack on the floor.
“Okay, well. Then how about you sleep with a guy and then just see how it feels.”
Ruki was drinking water as Ren had his little suggestion and he almost choked on it. Trying to catch his breath again, he spoke in a sarcastic tone.
“Sure Ren, I’ll just go to the first person who walks into the classroom and ask if they want to make out with me!”
“You can send letters with a pigeon instead you dumbfuck. It’s the 21st century that’s what dating apps are for these days.”
“Oh.”
And here they were, setting up a profile for Ruki, hanging out in Ren’s bed in his dorm room.
“Just put that you’re gay. We’re looking for a man, aren’t we?”
“Yeah. It just feels weird you know.”
“It’s not.”
Ren took the phone away from Ruki’s hands and started filling in the profile by himself.
“I’m choosing some selfies.”
“No wait- Let me see first.
“Okay, okay.”
He chose two selfies and a photo he took of Ruki.
“Are these good?”
“I think I’m gonna throw up.” said Ruki, holding his face with both of his hands.
“I mean, it’s not that bad you look good.”
“No, I mean I am so nervous I don’t think I can do this.”
“In the worst-case scenario you tell the person you forgot about a massive project due this Monday and cancel the meeting, it’s okay.”
“That sounds kinda mean.”
“Okay let’s see… Let’s put 175cm. And Scorpio with a little devil emoji.”
Ruki chuckled nervously.
“What does this even mean?”
“We’re flirting with the potential dates. Scorpio is a sexy sign.”
“Really?”
“Honestly you may be straight Ruki.”
Ruki raised his eyebrows, looking at Ren as he waited for an explanation.
“Just kidding, I’m just kidding! Okay, let’s add that you were born and raised in Tokyo because I don’t know what else to add.”
Ruki nodded in response.
They have been swiping profiles for an hour now. Ruki had like 2 people he swiped right out of a hundred people they had seen. Ren was pretty annoyed at the fact that Ruki didn’t find anyone interesting. He wasn’t really eager when swiping those two people right either.
“I think we’ve almost run out of people-“ Ren said, watching Ruki swiping left the last person they saw.
“Ruki! That guy was so attractive.”
“He liked long walks at the beach that sounds so lame.”
And that’s how Ruki spent his first day on the app. He didn’t have any hope he was gonna find someone he was interested in. This whole not feeling attracted to anyone on the app made him feel like he was actually straight and made the whole situation up in his head. He hated it, he couldn’t focus on anything with this thing in his mind.
“Don’t forget to check the app once in a while, there may be someone among the new accounts,” Ren said as they were sitting down in the cafeteria.
“Yeah whatever,” Ruki replied, sulking.
He still took his phone out of his pocket and waited for the app to load. There were some new people, but one of them was from their university. It was a rule for Ruki to swipe everyone from their university left, he didn’t want to deal with drama and rumors in a place he had to be every day.
After he swiped that last person left, there was this guy he thought looked cute. His profile was filled with his 3 cats, and funny enough, he also resembled a cat himself.
“Yona…” Ruki mumbled his name as he went through the profile. His bio was “Let me make you coffee!” and he worked as a barista. The distance between their locations was pretty short too. Ruki thought he was just not going to find someone he was attracted to, he might as well just meet with this guy and get some free coffee?
