Work Text:

As she awoke from her restless slumber, Caitlin could feel a sharp sting in her throat as she tried to swallow. She grumbled as she felt her throat. Caitlin swallowed again and felt another painful sting. “Shit,” she groaned. “This sucks ass.” Her voice sounded hoarse and strained. Not only that, but her head was killing her.

Since yesterday afternoon, Caitlin recently got sick for an unknown reason and developed strep throat. At first, she felt annoying stings in her throat that she just shrugged off as nothing too serious. Slowly, the stings got worse, and Caitlin began to feel very feverish to the point her temperature was in the hundreds. She barely finished her dinner from last night due to the pain in her throat and her head pounding like crazy. She had hoped that if she slept through the night, she would feel much better in the morning and finally draw something.

Unfortunately, to her despair, she felt even worse today.

In the distance, Caitlin heard someone approaching the bedroom from the hallway. Her husband, Dio, was coming in to check on her and her health. As he walked into the bedroom, she was greeted by his muscular and almost naked body since he was wearing nothing but a thong.

“Good morning, darling,” Dio greeted her. “How are you feeling today?”

“Like complete shit,” Caitlin groaned in response. “I’m still sick.”

“Let me check,” Dio replied and placed his hand on Caitlin’s forehead. “Oh dear, you’re burning up.”

“I hate being like this,” she mumbled. “I just want this to be over.”

“Here, sit up,” Dio said and handed an ear thermometer to Caitlin.

Caitlin sat up, took the thermometer from him, and placed the tip of it in her right ear. As she pressed the button, she heard a small beep and took it out. It read 108.0.

“It appears you have a serious fever,” Dio said. “Just stay in bed and relax.”

“Dio, you’re going to have to put me out of my misery,” Caitlin groaned. “I can’t live like this.”

“Now, now,” Dio replied. “It’s not that bad. I’m sure you’ll survive.”

“But it IS that bad,” Caitlin shot back. “My throat hurts, my head hurts, everything hurts, I’m weak. I feel like I’m going to die soon.”

“You aren’t going to die,” he reassured her. “You just have a common summer cold.”

Caitlin sighed as she slumped back into her pillow. She hated being sick. It felt like all her strength drained out of her, and she turned into a worthless blob.

“How long am I going to be like this for?” She asked.

“I have no idea, dear,” Dio responded. “Probably a few days. In the meantime, you should get some rest. What would you like to eat?”

“Nothing,” Caitlin sighed. “I don’t feel like eating anything at all.”

“Ok, would you like some cold water?” He asked again. “To help with your throat.”

“Actually,” she replied. “I read something online about how gargling warm salt water helps sore throats.”

“Alright, I’ll get you some warm salt water,” Dio said. “I’ll also get Advil and cold Medicine to help with the cold and headache.”

“Thank you, dear,” Caitlin said. “You’re the best husband I could ask for; I don’t know what I would do without you.”

A soft smile crept on Dio’s face. “Well,” he responded. “Only I, Dio, would provide the best care and treatment for my princess.”

Before he went downstairs into the kitchen, he kissed Caitlin’s forehead making her smile. Despite being the egotistical asshole that he was, Dio would kill for his darling little wife.

Notes:

A few months ago I got sick and hated it so much that I wrote this to make me feel better. This is super short sorry about that lol.
