“Ryusei…” Sae scowled, holding on to the edge of the rink for dear life. He could already feel his feet slipping out from under him as he attempted to inch forward to smack his dear, stupid boyfriend.
“ What!” Ryusei snapped, clinging to the wall a foot away, stomach pressed against the top of the wall, his fingers gripping it so tightly that it looked like he was about to lose circulation.
“I thought you knew how to ice skate. Why did you suggest this?”
Sae felt his legs slip again and he gasped loudly before catching himself for the umpteenth time. He was so tempted to just throw his legs over the side of the wall and escape, because falling on the concrete would be alot less mortifying than continuing to inch their way around the rink.
Ryusei scowled at him, trying to stand again before his feet started to slip, his legs going in opposite directions and forcing him to do the splits. He managed to catch himself just before his chin clocked the edge of the wall, and he pulled himself back up into his hunched over position.
“Just go already. They already told us we couldn’t go back, so we have to finish going around before we can escape.”
“Shit, Sae, I know .” Ryusei scowled again, jabbing his middle finger towards the back of a seven year old who just slid by gracefully on one foot.
Sae narrowed his eyes, watching just at how the more successful skaters were placing their feet. He knew that the method that he was currently going by wouldn’t work for much longer, so, he tried again, mirroring the method of steadying himself that he saw in other skaters.
A burst of confidence allowed Sae to push himself away from the wall, and he managed to stand there, just out of reach of the barrier without slipping.
“How the hell did you do that?”
Sae shrugged, because he honestly wasn’t very sure, but he pushed himself forward slowly, one foot, and then the other, before he was stumbling on a rough patch, and slamming into Ryusei’s back at a very low speed.
They both cursed as their collision sent them tumbling to the ground. Sae grimaced as he felt the back of his jeans turn cold and wet from the ice, but Ryusei’s laugh pulled himself out of his own self-pitying reverie.
Wiping at his eye with one finger, Ryusei sighed, smile still plastered on his face as he reached backwards to find the wall, pulling himself off the ice before reaching down to pull Sae up as well.
“Well, I’ll add this to the list of things to never do again.” Ryusei shook his head as he threw an arm over Sae’s shoulder, taking advantage of his slightly improved balance to learn how to stand as well.
Sae rolled his eyes, holding on tightly to the arm over his shoulder, making sure that if he fell again, Ryusei was also coming with him.
Inching forward, Sae held on to Ryusei, finally making some forward progress around the ring. Halfway around, Ryusei finally felt confident enough to let go of the wall, scrambling to grab on again before they both hit the ice.
Sae looked up at him, a pitying frown on his face as Ryusei gritted his teeth in frustration.
“You’re hopeless.”
“Ha. Ha.” Ryusei laughed sarcastically, resuming their forward march. “I just can’t help it. I keep falling for you.”
Ignoring his comment, Sae eyed the exit, now directly opposite from them on the rink.
“When we leave, you can fall right into a boiling pot of hot chocolate for making me do this.”
