Chapter Text
The dust was nowhere near settled. Their mission to stop the DOU was a disaster. The CATTS had been captured and taken who knows where, the coven heads saw right through Eda’s disguise and put Raine in her place, not knowing the imminent danger that they were putting everyone in. A mistake that they were quickly going to regret once everything had settled down. Luz, Amity, Willow and everyone else had disappeared off the face of the isles, gone to a place that no other witch had gone before. The Collector had King and was going to destroy the BI, so they feared. ‘How did this happen?’ the CATTS all silently wondered in their heads as the draining spell took hold of almost everyone in the isles. For Raine, for Eda, for the CATTS, for the coven heads and almost every innocent resident of the BI who all once respected the emperor, it was far too late. The Day of Unity had commenced and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.
For Eda, the aftermath was an emotional blur. A nightmare. One that she was never going to escape from, knowing the effects of it all were soon going to haunt and follow her for the rest of her life. She held Raine. She held them tighter than she ever had before. Holding onto the last bit of hope she had, the very person she fell in love with all those years ago. Eda quietly hummed Raine’s Rhapsody to their unconscious body through her tears, all the while the sounds of Raine shouting out her name as they were put on the dais echoed through her head. Their last words before fainting in her arms completely invaded her mind. She couldn’t handle it. She didn’t care that her right hand was gone. It was the least of her worries. Even after all these years, Eda knew that she never stopped loving Raine. Thoughts and memories of their times together always being in the back of her mind every day since they separated. Always coming to the front every once in a while, giving Eda a warm smile on her face as she recalled beautiful summer afternoons atop the pairs favorite hill. It felt as if the wonderful music was still there.
The coven heads all laid on the ground. Completely still, almost lifeless. ‘Was this it? Was this the end?’ Eda silently asked herself. She instinctively held Raine closer at the thought, fearing that this might be the end of the Boiling Isles. Raine’s body was still unconscious even long after everyone else had finally woken up. Many thoughts rushed through everyones heads. None of them knew what to do, now that the DOU was mostly over. No one knew if they were going to survive whatever The Collector had planned for them. And while these thoughts were heavy on everyone, they were mere flashes for Eda. The only thing in her mind being one of her biggest fears: The thought that Raine might have slipped away. Eda’s tears quickly turned to sobs, fearing that they really were gone. She closed her eyes, hoping that this was all a dream. Hoping that she’d open them to see the familiar view of the isles, Raine right by her side as if they were still together.
But it never happened. The rest of the coven heads all gathered a few feet away, Hettie Cutburn having quietly confirmed the worst. Eda heard the words. She heard it all. She felt as if her heart was going to give out then and there. Her stomach was almost nonexistent, being stuck in the biggest knot possible. The weight and severity of everything that had happened in the last 48 hours hitting her like a ton of bricks, with Raine’s heartbreaking death being the massive heartstring tug that broke the dam. Eda’s cries and shouts for the one she lost making even Darius wince in pain. Her mind flipping through every possible way to bring them back, with each one ending in failure. Denial was the only thing she could face. It’s the only thing anyone can face…
