To say it was a nice quiet day would be a lie. It was never a quiet day, but that was just fine with them. They were laying in the hammock, while Techno was leaning against the tree that was closest to their head. Sometimes they'd turn their head to look at what he was reading, Knowing it was some type of Greek Myth. Earlier it was Theseus, and then Icarus, and then Hector, and whatever he was reading now. They wondered how long the four of them had been out here, if Techno could get through all those books. They didn't want to ask, because the silence between the two was nice, comfortable even.
The same silence was not shared by Wilbur and Aster. They were yelling about something, weaving in and out of the trees, in and out of earshot, and sometimes Aster would climb up a tree, either to get away from Wilbur, or surprise him when he ran past. They weren't fighting, the family rarely ever fought. They were just playing around, but Mellohi couldn't hear them-or didn't listen-for long enough to know what about. They just hoped that no one got hurt. That happened a lot with their family. On accident, of course.
They turned their attention back to the paper in front of them. The sketchbook had been open to the same page the whole time, and the drawing was coming along nicely. It was a rough sketch of the frog they had seen with Wilbur and Aster near the creek yesterday. Aster had pointed to it a second after Mellohi had spotted it. They couldn't go pick it up, because Phil had sent them to go get berries and apples, and he'd be upset if they came home soaking wet. So Wilbur suggested they draw it instead. So here they were, sitting in the oldest, rattiest hammock known to man. Everyone loved the hammock.
Once, when they were little, Mellohi managed to get out of the house in the middle of winter, just to lay in it. Phil told them, that everyone was so worried, and they were just curled up in the snow-dusted fabric. They vaguely remembered being carried inside and sitting near the fire, their brothers cuddling them to make sure they warmed up properly. They chuckled at that every time. They were the only human in the family, and everyone worried about how 'fragile' they were because of it. They hated that part. Mellohi wasn't fragile. No one said they were, but they worried that they thought that. They never realized how that fear made no sense, as they have beaten their older siblings in fights before. But, for now they were imaging themself as a small baby, waddling through the snow, and crawling into the hammock. Techno shifted his gaze up to them, before speaking. "What are you laughing at? ... Did Wilbur finally trip and fall?" His voice was quiet and monotonous, but he was smirking softly. Mellohi wondered if he knew how comforting his voice was. It was nice, and they didn't need to decipher the tone of it. They shook their head, frowning when the blonde bangs fell into their face. They lifted their hand to move the hair as they spoke. "No, I was just remembering the story you guys told me, about when I was small, and I came out to the hammock in the snow."
Techno chuckled, nodding. "I see. Well, alert me if he Does fall. I don't wanna miss it." They laughed and nodded, turning their attention back to the paper, lifting their pencil and lightly drawing new lines. They opened their mouth to ask a question, but soon their vision, and the hammock, filled with brown, orange, and yellow leaves. They heard Wilbur laugh for a few seconds, followed quickly by a loud thud and a small 'oof-'. Soon, leaves were being pushed off of them, and they saw Techno's pink hair. That snapped them out of the shock they must have been in, and they started pushing leaves away as well. Soon, most of the ones covering their vision and upper body were gone. Techno put a hand on their shoulder, and tilted his head, to ask if they were OK. They sat, confused for a moment, before realizing they must have looked scared, and that their breathing had quickened. They nodded, showing their inhales down, and looking down over the side of the hammock.
Just as they suspected, Wilbur was on the ground, and Aster had just tackled him. They laughed, watching Wilbur try and shift his apperance just enough to get out of Aster's grasp. It wouldn't work though, as he was part dragon and his grip was Strong. He was lightly scolding the brunnette, but couldn't help but laugh at his disparity to get away. Mellohi looked over at their drawing, frowning softly. "Aw man,,, Wilbur messed up my drawing," The three paused, looking at them. They didn't think they looked that upset, but they may have based on their brothers reactions. Wilbur quickly sputtered out an apology, while Techno and Aster started scolding him again.
After a few seconds of that, A voice from the house called for them. Everyone's attention was immediately on the house, where Phil was standing. "Coming Dad!" Mellohi called out, and began crawling out of the hammock, barely spilling any leaves. Aster and Wilbur had stood up, and Wilbur was sprinting into the house as fast as possible. Techno and Aster helped Mellohi get out of the hammock, and get their notebook and gathering up Techno's books, and then walked over to the house together. Phil was looking at the hammock, and spoke up as the three climbed up the stairs. "Why is the hammock full of leaves?" He asked as he moved his hand to take another leaf out of their hair. "Wilbur dumped a bunch of leaves on Mells, who was in the hammock." Techno informed him. The four of them went into the house, and Mellohi changed out of their leaf covered clothes.
Once that was done, they walked down to the living room, and curled up next to Aster who was on the couch near their fireplace. He wrapped the blanket he had in his lap around the both of them, and started talking about what they should do tomorrow. Wilbur slowly walked into the room with a few cups in his hands. He handed the two a mug, and Mellohi took a sip. "Mellohi, you're gonna burn your tongue off some day with how little you wait for things to cool." Wilbur joked, sitting next to the youngest. They stuck their tongue out at him and continued to sip the drink. It was hot chocolate with some peppermint in it. They hummed slightly, as Aster continued speaking. Soon, Phil and Techno entered the room, joining in on the conversation. They laid their head against Aster's shoulder, closing their eyes. The conversation was calm for only a few moments, before Wilbur started debating something. Mellohi was half-asleep and couldn't really tell what they were saying.
They smiled softly. It was never really a quiet day, and that was fine with them.
