Sit Down Beside Me

Summary:

Father Level Bests never really had any true experiences with romance. Raised in a very hardcore catholic household, he was taught that having a love life would get in the way of his holy obligations. Now, as an undead soul with very different beliefs than he had when he was alive, he tries his luck with the powerful, intimidating demon lord, Buffalo Belzer.

Notes:

I really wanted to write a short drabble with these gayasses, I love the idea of them together (even if it's wayyyy beyond canon). I know like half of this is super ooc, shhh, don't worry about it, we don't worry about canon here.
Also I'm proud to be the first person (as far as I know) with the first Wendell and Wild shipfic on AO3. I have more, way way more, I'm working on atm.

Work Text:

“Did-D-Did it hurt when...when you-you uh when you, oh dear.” God, he was so bad at flirting, but what did Belzer expect? Not many men of the robe were used to the loosey-goosey nature of demons and how charm came to them easily. Father Level Bests seem to be the worst of them all, poor bastard, couldn’t even get a full sentence out. Belzer smirked, he really wanted to fluster the former priest, he wanted him to squirm.

“You look absolutely exhausted, Father,” Belzer growled, his thick frame almost pinning Bests against the wall. “E-exhausted? Not at all, I feel fine!” Belzer grinned, “Really? Must have been a lot of work falling from heaven, because you look absolutely angelic.” The demon lord’s hand gently caressed Bests’ face, which was beet red. “You want to get out of here, Bests? My treat.” Father Bests looked around nervously, “I-I’d love to but I really shouldn’t.” “Why not?” The question rung through the former priest’s head. He wasn’t a Saint, hell, he conjured with demons. He had no more religious obligations and any holy beliefs he did have were just about gone. So what did he have to lose? Why not take this opportunity and have fun? “You know what, you’re right,” he said suddenly, grabbing Belzer’s wrist, “let’s get out of here.” Belzer let out a sharp laugh, leading the former priest, “Well that was a quick change of mind , let’s go then!”

As the two headed out, Bests felt his heart beating faster than normal, his face felt flustered, was he really going to do this? Parked next to an old tree was one of those old school motorcycles, a dark purple beauty with bright green flames bursting on the sides, the exterior decorated with demonic skulls. Belzer hopped on, gesturing to Bests to get on. “You’re gonna have to squeeze up front, I’m a bigger guy and you might not get a good grip in the back.” Bests shuffled his way into the demon lord’s arms as he gripped the handles. The former priest could feel hot breath tickle the back of his neck, which gave him goosebumps. “w-where did you say we were going again?” Bests asked in a quiet tone. Belzer grinned, “I know a spot.”

The “spot” Belzer was referring to, was an old, overgrown lookout. Belzer let Bests step off first before hauling himself off the bike. The former priest looked around, it was a quiet area, looked like it hardly got visitors save for the sneaky couples who dared brave the thicket. “here’s a good place,” Belzer said as he gestured to the large stump of an old fallen tree. He flopped down, patting a large hand on the hard wood. Bests sat down gently, as their gaze met.

Belzer slid a hand onto Bests cheek as he gazed into cloudy, black eyes. They seemed to twinkle like a midnight sky, full of wonder. Belzer chucked softly as the other looked at him with slight confusion. “Never knew you had such pretty eyes.” He cooed softly. Bests could feel himself go red in the face. His hands balled in his robe as the demon lord’s face inched closer to his. Their lips met gently, the warmth seeping between them. Bests could feel himself shaking, it was slight at first but as Belzer’s hands started to wander down his back the shaking grew more violent. Belzer took notice and pulled away quickly, looking at the former priest in concern.

“Are you okay?” He asked in a quiet voice, pulling his hands away. “I…I don’t know.” Bests mumbled, feeling both embarrassed and somewhat ashamed. “I thought I’d be, it’s just,” the former priest took in a long breath, trying to calm his nerves, “I’ve never done anything like this. Ever.” He let out an awkward laugh before letting his smile fade quickly. Belzer put a hand on the other’s back softly, “you’ve never kissed anyone?” Bests shook his head “I was raised very strictly, romance or having a partner would have distracted me from my holy obligations, at least that’s what my dad told me. God, the things I would’ve heard if he found out I was gay, heh. It was bad enough that I wasn’t his perfect little daughter-“

“Level.” Belzer stopped him, he could see the tears welling up in the former priest’s eyes, his body was shaking and his hands tightly gripped at the fabric of his robes. “I’m sorry, I-I didn’t mean to ruin o-our moment.” Belzer lifted Bests’ head up, giving him a soft kiss on the temple. “You didn’t ruin anything at all, I had no idea you’ve been through all that and I’m sorry if I rushed you into anything, but know that you deserve to have a little freedom, especially after the bullshit your dad pulled on you. You don’t need to worry about your damned holy obligations, you’re free now.” Before he could say anything else, Bests threw himself into the demon lord’s arms, squeezing him tightly. He sobbed into Belzer, which caused the demon lord to wrap his arms around the former priest.

As he calmed down he looked back up at Belzer, the demon lord’s bright orange eyes full of concern and care. Bests smiled awkwardly, “you know, for a demon you’ve been so sweet to me, thank you.” Belzer jokingly let out a dramatically loud noise of offense, “I’ll have you know that we demons are compassionate and caring, thank you very much.” The two chuckled, leaning into each other. “This has been nice, despite my venting, I’m glad to have spent time with you.” Belzer nodded, wrapping his arm around Bests and moving him closer.

“Would you be interested in spending more time with me? Because I would like to spend more time with you.” Bests smiled, his hand clasping onto Belzer’s “I would love to.” The two looked out at the brightly lit Rust Bank. Things were changing for the better, not just in the tiny town Bests grew up in but in his life now. Despite everything, he could settle down and live the life he wanted and love the people he wanted to. As he leaned into the demon lord, he closed his eyes, enjoying the loving warmth that filled his heart.

When he woke up, Bests had no idea where he was. At first he started to panic, did he get kidnapped, was this some sort of weird dream? He was still dressed in his usual robe, his makeup smudged the pillow under his head as he got up from the big, comfy couch he was lying on. He then remembered what happened last night, last place he was at was the old lookout, with- “Belzer?” He heard a slight racket coming from below. He got up and headed down the steps of the other’s house. Belzer was hunched over the stove top burning what looked to be bacon and eggs, cursing under his breath. He stopped to look up at Bests, in which his sour expression turned into one filled with love. “Morning, did you sleep well?” Bests shrugged “as well as the dead can, hehe. What- happened last night though? It’s kind of a blur.” Belzer gave up on the breakfast, tossing the pan to the side, “you fell asleep on me, after we had just gotten done talking. I didn’t know what to do so I took you back to my mortal home and let you crash here. I was making breakfast as but as you can tell, I’m not the best cook, so I’m just gonna order in.”
“Oh wow did I really fall asleep after that? Not surprised, I'm an oldie, we get tired easily, haha." the two were having animated chatter over their breakfast, a big platter of everything for Belzer and a small side of eggs and bacon for Bests. “Yeah, you were leaning on me and next thing I know, I could hear you snoring. It was quite adorable, I must tell you.”
