Chapter Text
“God, can you just give up already? You can’t save me. I told you, I love the power too much. From someone who claims that darkness is her best friend, I don’t understand how you don’t get that feeling. Fuck at least Laurel understood me” Tyler fumed after her usual visit to check on him – make sure he wasn’t going against her specific instructions on not harming anyone in the area. A crack appeared in his chest, a small one, a realization ‘what did I just say’ he thought.
Wednesday chuckled humorlessly, her eyes staring daggers directly at Tyler – but the pain they held was heart stopping to even the most wicked creature.
“What” Tyler snapped at her, he didn’t want to but he couldn’t help it – she just got under his skin so easily and he hated it. Hated how she could very nearly stare directly into his soul, imprinting on him.
“I’m done” she simply said, a light shoulder shrug. Wednesday dragged her teeth over her top lip in exasperation.
Tyler could feel his hyde locking up in him, a beast that could only watch from the sidelines, something that he wasn’t familiar with – the beast was him, he was the beast – so why did they feel so far apart right now? His eyes changing from barely held contempt to something akin to…fear.
Unfortunately for him Wednesday refused to even look at him by this point and kept her gaze locked over his shoulder. “I’m done.” She repeated, sighing slightly. He grabbed her arm quickly and she looked him in the eye – whether she actually saw the emotion there, Tyler didn’t know – her usual blank expression prominent. “Tyler” she says – and his breath stutters – “You’re free.” The bind on his soul seemed to lift and he suddenly feels cold, missing its warmth. “You want to slaughter a village, fine. Kill whomever, fine. That blood will be on your hand and your hands only. I don’t care anymore. I’m done.” She doesn’t give him time to react before turning around.
A cold bucket of ice water might as well have dumped over him – Tyler feels as though his teeth are chattering, and he feels frozen. Cold. Empty.
“What just happened” Tyler could only whisper watching Wednesday walk away from him. He’s never seen her look so…dejected – it felt all types of wrong. Dread pooled in his stomach and something else…something else he hadn’t felt since before Gates unlocked his Hyde. Regret. For the first time in years, Tyler felt regret.
With her usual perkiness, while also clearly threatening Enid said “Oh that?” and pointed in Wednesday’s direction. “Easy. You just finally broke the one person who has been on your side this entire time. The one person, who while she may never admit it, who actually loved you. Someone can only be treated like and called a cockroach so many times, jackass. Who knew Wednesday Addams actually had a breaking point?”
Skipping towards the door of the empty coffee shop with her usual bounce in order to go chase after her best friend, Enid thought of one last thing. Turning she looked at him “You know how they say ‘you don’t know what you had until it’s gone’? That’s bullshit. The truth is you did know what you had, you just never thought it’d leave”.
The door ripped open in front of her and the little pink and blue werekitty tore off down the street after her best friend. “Wednesday! Wednesday come back” she cried as she raced after her.
Tyler stared at the door – the walls closing in. His breathing picking up and black dots filled his vision. Oxygen felt as though it couldn’t reach him. Panic. He was having a fucking panic attack. Sinking to the ground, Tyler hugged his knees; he shoved his palms into his eyes, chest heaving.
And for the first time in years, Tyler cried, praying for the cold to go away. Wishing for her warmth once again.
