Chapter Text
Even underwater the sun managed to sneak in Percy’s window. He crept under the cover like a young child getting up for school in the morning. The sheets in his room at his father's palace were soft, delicate and warm making mornings ten times harder than they had to be. He could live in those covers for eternity.
The more he visited Atlantis he became less bothered by odd things. Percy now understood most people here didn't need to sleep each night, he may strike up a casual conversation with a dolphin and being served dinner ( as odd as that was for Percy anyways seeing as he grew up relatively poor) by a cyclops was completley expected. Out of all things though being woken up early suprised him, he usually was allowed to sleep in.
"Perseus!" one of the Palace guards shouted from down the hall. Percy lifted his head from his unfairly comfortable pillows that he felt were softer than clouds and stared at the unopen doors.
The clothes he was wearing were simple yet also way more expensive than anything he wore on land. They were also not very professional.
He hoped it wasn't something important and or time sensitive. It most likely was if his dad had sent a guard to wake him up. If Percy wasn't very sleepy he might have panicked, but he stayed unusually calm.
He opened the curtains on the end of his king (prince?) sized bed and shook his hair out in an attempt to not look so disheveled. Smoothing out his clothes and removing his covers (he fought the urge to jump back in them and one again transport himself to Elysium. He peered out at his room that Triton (Begrudgingly) helped him decorate. They had their differences but he enjoyed it nonetheless. They chose out the essentials like his bed or the closet. He remembered picking out things for the bathroom where he washed himself with lava rather than water. Stuff like that still freaked him out. He remembered when Triton had to convince him it that it wasn't a secret murder plan from his stepmother and that was how people got washed underwater.
As he was spacing out the doors swung right open and outside of it stood the guard that had "woken" Percy up and Zeus?!
Percy shot up and jumped out his bed in an attempt to? He wasn't exactly sure. He also wasn't a very polite person to the gods, yet in his sleepy state he reverted back to instinct.
Instead of getting out of bed correctly and making a good impression Percy immediately jumped and slipped on the bed curtains causing him to fall head first onto the ground, face planting at his uncles feet.
Percy’s embarrassed grunt was interrupted by badly muffled laughing. Percy looked up to see the guard staring anxiously at a chuckling Zeus.
After the guard helped Percy up, he saw his father walk into his room. Seeing his dad comforted him but also made him feel very insecure, he felt out of place seeing the guard in armour, Zeus being in his stupid suit and his dad for once looking more like a god than a random fisherman.
"is everything alright brother?" Poseidon asked Zeus walking into the room. "of course" he replied
turning towards him. "did you get lost looking for the door?"
Zeus rolled his eyes "If you must know, I was about to speak to your son"
Poseidon quirked an eyebrow "alright then" Zeus turned back to Percy and sighed "I had a proposition"
Percy nodded as if he had a clue what that meant. "an event is being held on Olympus, a ball if you will" he looked physically pained to say the next part
"we would be glad to see you there"
Poseidon peeked out from behind "does this happen to be the one you just mentioned to me" Zeus crossed his arms and replied "yes, yes obviously" Poseidon clapped his brother on the shoulder.
"right then, Perseus?"
"yes dad?"
"would you like to go"
Percy smiled "s-sure?"
"that settles it, I'll see you out Zeus" and with a wink his father dragged his uncle out the room.
Percy fiddled with the hem of his shirt and asked the guard "sorry, do you know when it's happening"
The guard paused then told him "I heard that it was tomorrow night, but you may want to check with your father" and with that the guard left.
"thanks!" Percy shouted to him halfheartedly before laying back on his bed hoping this wasn't the disaster he believed it was.
After Percy had recovered from his previously mentioned embarrassment he gazed at his closet. Even though he was sure every item of clothing was extremely expensive, he wasn't sure what was appropriate for a ball. He wouldn't want to be pushy but he might need to buy something more... Something you might wear at a ball.
He was sure his dad was busy but there might be someone else who was willing. Percy fixed his pyjamas for the second time and headed out his room in search of his siblings.
