The night was cool and calm, not devoid of sound from the laughter of two young men running up the hill. The two men came to a stop once they found the spot they had been looking for.
"Oi! Stop running around too much, we have volleyball practice tomorrow."
"But Iwaaa! It's all your fault for taking us here to look at the stars at this time."
Oikawa pouts at his best friend's scolding, making so-called best friend turn his head away from the sight of his pout. They both lay down their bags after coming from training until it was late and made their way to a park. The park was a perfect place for stargazing because there was little to no lights in the spot they were at and that allowed them to see all the shimmering stars. Then, they took their seat in the grass and Oikawa was the first to look up at the sky. Iwaizumi was busy looking at something else, watching Oikawa gape at the beautiful sight. The spiky-haired boy found the view of his best friend being awed by the stars endearing. He then looked up at the sky and let out a woah... because the starry night looked much more captivating tonight than it ever did.
"Hey Iwa..."
"Hm."
"How come you never take a girl out here? She would for sure fall in love with you!" Oikawa laughed
"..."
"If I took one of my fangirls out here, they would go nuts! I bet they wish they could swap places with you. Don't you think so-"
Oikawa directed his attention to Iwaizumi's face rather than the stars after noticing his weird silence. He noticed that his best friend's face seemed dejected rather than his usual stern look. That had made him wonder if he did something wrong and made him ask the man he was concerned for this question,
"Hey! Iwa... are you okay? You seem kind of down there..."
"Huh- Oh yeah. No don't worry I'm fine and you're right, haha."
"...Did you even hear anything I said?"
"Uh, I did."
"Then what did I say?"
"That you want a girlfriend."
Oikawa sighed at his response. "You haven't been listening at all!"
Iwaizumi brought his attention to look at Oikawa's face after he said that. He had been listening at the beginning but then tuned off whatever he continued to say because he felt as if he had been rejected by Oikawa implying that he should get a girlfriend. It wasn't Oikawa's fault though for not knowing the strong interest he held for him ever since they were toddlers. As Iwaizumi was lost in thought, he bounced back into reality when he saw Oikawa suddenly moving closer to his face.
"Iwa, are you okay-" Oikawa was pushed off by Iwaizumi, making him believe he actually did do something to piss him off.
"Hey! What was that for? Did I do something wrong??"
"...No, Shittykawa."
"Then, what happened?"
Iwaizumi was in a tight situation because he did not want to tell his best friend that he can NOT handle him being so close to his face as he was just now, and he can't lie to him because Oikawa knows when he was lying. There was only one option left in this dilemma.
"I think we should call it a night. I feel tired from all the practice. I'll see you tomorrow." The spiky haired man quickly grabbed his bag and was about to sprint down the hill, when suddenly- He felt a grip on his wrist. He thought to himself goddamnit. I forgot this psycho has a gorilla grip.
"You are absolutely NOT leaving me here without explaining what I did wrong! You know better than this, Iwa."
"Please let go, we can discuss this tomorrow-"
"NO," Oikawa yelled out, making Iwaizumi turn his head around to see the serious look on the brunette's face. Well, this is going to be a long night for the both of them.
Oikawa made Iwaizumi place down his bag again and pulled him down to sit next to him. He kept his tight hold on Iwa's wrist until he was done explaining why he reacted the way he did, unaware of Iwaizumi feeling as if he will die of heart palpitations tonight.
"So... what was that all about?" Oikawa began. Iwa felt anxious, he was so worried that Oikawa would feel his heartbeat accelerating at a speed that's probably not okay for him, but it seemed as if Oikawa didn't notice or cared.
"Uhh.. really it was nothing- okay it was."
Iwa knew to not lie to Oikawa when he saw the boy's face turn into a doubting one. Alright..., he thought to himself. I guess I should get over this and embrace the consequences of my actions.
"Look Oikawa. I know this is going to be a not-so-pleasant conversation after you hear me out, so... please. Please promise me you won't run away once I tell you something. Okay?" he nervously asked
"Okay Iwa... you're making me think you're gonna confess your deepest darkest sins to me." Oikawa giggled but immediately replaced it with silence and a concerned look.
"Well, you're not that far off." Iwaizumi heard Oikawa let out a what before he closed his eyes and prayed for the best outcome for this mess. "Look Oikawaivebeencrushingonyousincethedayourmomsmadeushangoutwhenimovedinand-"
"Woah Woah Woah! Slow down please..." Oikawa places a hand on Iwa's shoulder, but removes it once it seemed like the tanned man had calmed down by catching his breath and was able to continue on with his news.
"Like I was saying... Oikawa. I'm trying my hardest to not run away from you and I know you're about to grab onto my wrist again so please don't. Anyways, I've always wanted to tell you this throughout our years together, but... I was so scared. I still am terrified of being rejected, but I might as well get over it." Iwaizumi then opens his eyes and Oikawa felt like his breath had been taken out of his lungs because of the next words he heard the anxious boy say.
"I've always liked you ever since we were kids. Hell, I'd say even more than that. I hate that I adore your stupid jokes, your annoying personality, and how caring and dedicated you are. But, those are just some of the traits that shape you for the way you are... okay Oikawa I think we should really call this a night, I'm sorry for burdening you with this-"
The spiked-hair brunette was unable to finish his sentence when Oikawa yanked him into a passionate kiss, making Iwaizumi feel as if time had stopped, that this was a dream, and that his eyes would burst out at any moment from the unexpected act. However, that didn't last long as he snapped back into reality and settled into the kiss, making his hands travel into Oikawa's oh-so-soft hair. Oikawa already had his hands placed on Iwa's waist, not wanting to let go of the boy. Iwaizumi felt like his knees were about to give out from pure bliss, which the other brunette felt the same way as he did. They parted from their kiss, panting for air after making out for enough time to sadly make the pair break away from each other. Once they both caught their breath, Oikawa was about to jump back into more kissing until his best friend put a hand over his mouth, telling him to wait.
"Whatttt? Why did you stop iwa..." Oikawa sulks.
"Stupid idiot... you didn't give me an answer." Iwa looks away from Oikawa's stare with his face completely red due to embarrassment, and removes his hand from Oikawa's face.
"Well, I thought our kiss was an obvious answer- OKAY! Okay PLEASE don't hit me..."
"You're practically asking for it, shittykawa." the spiked-hair man chuckles.
"You're going to be the death of me. Anyways! I do share those feelings that you have for me, which I think is really crazy honestly. How come you didn't confess to me sooner, hm?" Oikawa jokingly teased but didn't go the way he intended when he saw his best friend's face change for a split second. Had he said something wrong again?
"Uh, I didn't because I thought you would get with one of the girls from your fanbase-" Iwaizumi pauses for a moment from Oikawa bursting out in laughter. "Oi!! This is serious you asshole."
"How did you think that?! All this time I thought you'd want to be with someone like that Instagram model CandiedJovani."
"Oikawa... that sounds even more unbelievable compared to what I said."
The two continued laughing at their misunderstandings, feeling all sorts of positive emotions and a lighter atmosphere rather than the previous serious one. After they quieted down, they both stood up and grabbed their bags to make their way home. On the way, Oikawa remembered to ask something important that regarded the sweet confession that was made not too long ago.
"Oh! Iwa, can we stop for a second?" The mentioned boy paused in his tracks and showed that he was listening by turning to face Oikawa. "So, um... what are we?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, are we dating now or...?"
Oikawa anxiously waited for an answer that felt like an eternity, although it only took Iwaizumi to answer it in a few seconds.
"Hmm, sure I guess."
When the spiked hair boy said that, Oikawa tried SO hard not to run around the sidewalk and celebrate his accomplishment of Iwaizumi becoming his boyfriend, but he managed to suppress it a bit. He got on his knees and clasped his hands together with his new boyfriend, chanting thank you's out loud to whoever or whatever made it possible for him to be with the best person in the whole entire world. Iwaizumi tried to get away from Oikawa because of all the unwanted attention they might get if he continues to act like a maniac, except there was no one around them at the time of the "small" celebration. He thought of shutting up his bestfriend, now boyfriend, but decided that he didn't mind watching him get all excited from the idea of them being together. When the pair finally made it to their neighborhood, they awkwardly parted ways to head toward their separate homes. The rest of the night ended up in Iwaizumi not being able to sleep at all from overjoy and panic, while Oikawa had no trouble sleeping like a content baby for the first time in a while.
That night had marked the beginning of something new for the two and for more exciting experiences to come.
