Nightmares Bucky had were the worst thing his mind could do to him. He saw his victims begging for mercy, he begged himself to stop but his body wouldn’t comply - and he murdered them all just like that. No one was safe if Hydra had ordered a Winter Soldier to kill them - he would stop at nothing to accomplish his mission.
And every night he saw them, you woke up to his muttering and gently tried to wake Bucky up. You were cautious with waking him up though, because sometimes he woke up as the Winter Soldier and then you had to avoid his punches long enough to get him to remember you.
But those times he woke up as himself, you hugged him and muttered comforting words against the crook of his neck, assuring him that he wasn’t in control, it wasn’t him, he isn’t a monster, until he finally calmed down.
And just before you went to sleep again, you made sure you’d make Bucky smile by planting numerous kisses all over his face. You wanted to make him feel loved - and that was just what he got.
