Work Text:
“I want a baby.”
Rosh snorted. “Where did that come from?”
Simon heaved a sigh and flopped onto his mattress. “Nevermind that. I want a baby.”
This time it was Ayub who snorted. “You’re sixteen, single, and gay. Good luck with that.”
Simon harrumphed. “You’re just jealous you didn’t think of it first.”
“Why anyone would want a vomit machine crotch goblin is beyond me.” Rosh intoned and Ayub nodded fervently in agreement. Simon shot them a withering glare and rolled over, hugging a pillow to his chest pretending it was a tiny human he could look after, and upset that it wasn’t.
“You don’t understand! See, I was at work and this lady was in the pool with her baby and her toddler and she asked me to hold her baby for her while she got out of the pool and he was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in my life!”
Ayub and Rosh exchanged a look, shaking their heads in disappointment.
“I can’t believe we’re having this absolutely insane conversation.” Ayub tossed a video game controller at him, “I’ll happily play uncle to whatever babies you eventually have as long as you don’t have them while you’re still in high school.”
Simon pouted. “Don’t mock my struggles. I want a baby.”
“Yeah but you definitely don’t need one.” Rosh said firmly, before changing the subject.

“I want a baby.”
Wille immediately choked, eyes widening as he sputtered and coughed water all over the table, Ayub thumped him on the back and Simon immediately felt guilty- him wanting a baby was a long established joke between him, Rosh, and Ayub, but walking into the kitchen and announcing that to his boyfriend of six months was probably not the smartest idea he’d ever had.
“ What? ” Wille gasped, his eyes watering.
Ayub and Rosh immediately dissolved into laughter now that Wille wasn’t in imminent danger of choking to death, and Simon blushed and stuttered, unable to meet his eye.
“I, um, sorry that wasn’t- I mean- it’s kind of an inside joke between Rosh, Ayub and me because they know I want kids, but like obviously I wasn’t insinuating that we-“ he cleared his throat, blushing profusely. “Um, so yeah, sorry.”
Wilhelm looked at him for a long moment, his own cheeks starting to turn pink, his mouth still slightly agape. Simon wanted to sink into the floor and die.
Slowly, Wille picked up his fork and resumed eating.
“I want a baby too,” he said, “eventually.”
Hesitantly, Simon smiled.

“I want a baby” Simon said, watching his husband- he was still getting used to that, to Wille being his husband- playing with Felice’s new nephew.
Ayub just let out a snort and shook his head, used to the familiar proclamation by now, but Rosh’s head snapped up, her dark eyes sharp.
“You’re not just saying that this time, are you?” She asked, “You really mean it.”
“Yeah,” Simon sighed, looking at how gentle Wille was with the baby, how carefully he cradled the child’s head, how content he seemed. “I really do.”
“Shit- seriously?” Ayub asked, eyes wide, before his face split into a huge grin and Simon found himself in a crushing embrace, “Simme, that’s great!”
“Shh,” Simon hissed, “I haven’t mentioned anything to Wille yet.”
“I don’t think you have anything to worry about on that front,” Rosh observed drily. Simon followed her gaze to where Wilhelm was now blowing raspberries on the baby’s tummy, while the sweet little thing giggled and squirmed.
Yeah. He really doesn’t have anything to worry about, does he?

“I want a baby.” Simon held his breath. It definitely wasn’t the first time he’d said it aloud, but it might have been the first time he actually meant it, which made it all the more nerve wracking. He just hoped Wille would know, would understand from his tone that it wasn’t a joke this time.
Luckily, Wilhelm knows Simon better than he knows himself, and immediately looked up from his pile of papers, raising an eyebrow.
“Seriously?” He didn’t look unenthusiastic, Simon noted, just…confused, “You want a baby. Like, with me?”
Simon rolled his eyes. His husband could be such an idiot sometimes.
“No, with the mailman. Of course with you!”
“Oh,” Wille breathed, and then a smile broke out on his face and his brown eyes lit up like stars, “well in that case, I want a baby too.”
“You do?” Simon asked, his voice shaking. He’d wanted this for so long, it hardly seemed possible it was within reach now. He’d thought he’d have to talk Wilhelm into it, convince him they were ready for a baby. Apparently that wasn’t the case, and Wille wanted this just as much as he did.
“I want everything with you Simme,” Wilhelm told him earnestly, “especially babies.”
“We’re going to have a baby?” Simon asked, eyes watering. It still didn’t seem real.
Wilhelm nodded, tearing up himself. “We’re going to have a baby.”

Sara agreed to be a surrogate.
Ten months later, Amelia Vasquez is born, and Simon cries happy tears. He has a baby now.

“I want a baby.”
“You have a baby,” Wilhelm says, amused. “You’re holding her right now.
While Simon is holding a sleeping two year old Amelia that isn’t quite what he meant.
“I want another baby.”
Wilhelm smiles (he does that a lot more than he used to, and Simon melts every time) and shakes his head fondly.
“Alright. Let’s do it.”
