Chapter Text
I stood at a distance, wearing a dark cloak, from the petrification ceremony.
My parents' petrification.
A wild and a coven witch getting petrified together.
Wild witches aren't vile beings. What's wrong with learning magic freely?
I hesitantly walked away from the ceremony, then quickly ran into the dense forest with tears welling up in my eyes. The sight of seeing my parents slowly turn into stone became too much. After a while of running, I got exhausted and tripped on a stone covered by leaves. “Who’s there?” I heard a voice call out. Oh no! Oh no! A coven scout.
What do I do?
What do I do!
As I panicked a pair of steps crept closer, so I prepared for the worst as they stopped behind me. We both froze, looking at each other.
“It’s a kid..” the voice quietly spoke as I backed away and ran.
“Kid, it’s okay. I don’t want to hurt you.” The female voice assured me.
“Get away from me, scout!” I yelled out, pulling out the small flute that was in my cloak.
“Listen, I don’t want-” Before they finished I played a tune that shoved them to the ground, then sprinted off as fast as I could.
Before I fled too far they got in front of me with their staff, removing the hood of their red cloak. It was an older woman with shoulder-length orange hair that seemed to have faded a bit. “You're running away from something, are you?” The lady questioned me.
“What’s it to you? You're just going to send me to the Emperor.” I sternly told her.
“I don’t want anything to do with that guy; let alone be one of his scouts.” The lady explained, as I lowered my flute, but kept it close. The person can still be an enemy.
“I’m Eda. Not the first time I’ve seen someone else running from the emperor. Though it's the first time I’ve ever seen a child do so…” Eda mentioned making me quiet.
“I know a place where we’ll be safe for now. Come on.” I backed away cautiously.
She could be lying.
I don't want to end up like my parents.
“If I was sending you to the emperor I would’ve when I saw you,” Eda told me.
“You promise me?” I sternly question her.
“I promise.” Eda showed her wrists, which lacked a coven symbol. “See, nothing.”
I got on the staff and she flew high in the sky where no one could see us.
“Woah! I’ve never been up this high” I freaked out.
“It’s alright. Owlbert here will keep us both safe.” Eda reassured me as I looked around.
“Owlbert?” I questioned.
“My palisman. He’s a little owl, but he’s stronger than he looks.” Eda explained to me as I looked at my surroundings. The scenery is beautiful from up here.
“It’s not too long of a journey. Don’t sweat it.” Eda said.
“I’ll try” I nervously said.
Is this the right thing to do, even with no place to go?
