Summary:

Angel isn't exactly the kind of person to want to go out on a Friday night. Good thing Aki isn't either.

Notes:

I wrote this to cope with chapter 79 ;-;

Technically this takes place in context of a "nothing bad happens" au that my friends and I planned, but it reads as a standalone because I haven't actually written the main fic yet. This is why Angel is tagged as being trans even if that's not stated. Also, him and Aki are both in college + Denji and Power live with Aki, they're high school students.

With that out of the way, please enjoy!

Work Text:

Aside from the faint sound of the TV playing a movie that Angel had long since forgotten the name of, the apartment was quiet. Denji and Power were out for the night, probably terrorizing some other area of the city with their other friends, leaving just him and Aki here to enjoy the peace and quiet for a change. While Angel didn’t actually live here, he was over so often that it felt like he did. Eventually, he would. Maybe. If Aki wanted that.

Angel tried to watch the movie for a few seconds but quickly found that he just couldn’t maintain interest in it. Between the exhaustion of a long week of classes and the weird combination of comfort and anxiety that being held by Aki always brought, Angel was having a hard time staying awake. So, instead, he tilted his head up to watch Aki. He was more interesting than the movie could ever be.

The light of the TV washed over the focused expression on his face. The intense look in his eyes and slight frown on his lips when he was paying close attention to something was one of Angel’s favorite things about Aki. Normally he was so careful about controlling his expression, but moments like this were like a peek behind the facade. As he watched, something startling must have happened in the movie, because his breath caught in his throat and he squeezed Angel’s shoulders a little tighter. He eased off once he realized what he had done. A startled little laugh escaped him and he looked down at Angel, who was still watching him.

“Sorry, did I wake you?” Aki whispered. Thanks to the way Angel was tucked against him, he could feel his voice as he spoke.

“I wasn’t sleeping,” Angel responded. “Just thinking about it.”

“We can go to bed if you’re tired.” Aki brushed Angel’s bangs out of his eyes with his right hand. A fond little smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. Despite the fact that they’d been dating for several months now, the sight of him smiling like that made Angel’s heart flutter.

Angel hummed noncommittally and shifted so that he could tuck his face into the crook of Aki’s neck. He let his eyes slip closed and some of the remaining tension lifted from his shoulders. “I’m too comfortable right here. Getting up would be so much work.”

“I’d carry you if it’s really that much work.”

“Or you could accept your fate and stay here with me.”

After a slight pause, during which Aki likely got distracted by something happening in the movie while he thought about how to respond, he sighed in defeat and rested his head on top of Angel’s. “You’re rubbing off on me too much.”

“You could use the break,” Angel murmured. The anxiety was finally starting to subside after listening to Aki talk, so it was getting harder to keep himself from falling asleep. “You work so hard all the time.”

“Only because I want to.”

Angel was going to respond to that, probably something along the lines of “That doesn’t mean that taking breaks is a bad thing,” but his words just about deserted him. Instead, he mumbled something that he forgot as soon as the words left his lips. It seemed his exhaustion was finally getting the better of him.

Vaguely, he felt Aki lift his head so he could press a kiss to the top of Angel’s head before returning to his previous spot. He could probably tell that he was about to fall asleep, so he didn’t say anything else.

His last thought before falling asleep was about Aki.

Being held by him feels like home.
