Teddy Bears and Cuddle Wars

Summary:

Bam saw it first. Huddled amidst an assortment of other plushies in that supermarket aisle. But it was different. It was huge. The perfect size for hugging. Even from afar it looked so soft. And what made it special was the color of its fur -exactly the same shade as Khun's hair.

Bam always gets what he wants.

Hello!

It's another drabble I'm archiving here. I posted this in twitter back in Dec 19, 2020 for Karina's lovely fanart of Bam begging Khun for a teddy bear while they were doing their shopping. Do check out the lovely art here.

Work Text:

Bam saw it first. Huddled amidst an assortment of other plushies in that supermarket aisle. But it was different. It was huge. The perfect size for hugging. Even from afar it looked so soft. And what made it special was the color of its fur-exactly the same shade as Khun's hair.

"Please?" Bam asks.

Khun glares at the bear already wrapped securely in Bam's arms. He recognizes the semblance to his colors but that does not assuage the irk that rises in his chest. He recognizes it for what it is. A rival for Bam's hugs and cuddles.

But could those puppy eyes of molten gold plead any more? Could that child-like face be any more beseeching?

"Fine," Aguero mumbles and pushes the cart along. When was the last time he said no to Bam? Likely not on anything important. And certainly not because of a toy.

Bam did look so innocent hugging his oversized bear, giggling and happy. So despite Khun's reservations, a fond smile curls the edges of his lips.

Then again, Khun's smile slips as the blue bear sits between them on the couch. A little more as it hogs Bam's cuddles. And more as it claims a spot in their bed. Khun's smile disappears as the bear lulls Bam to sleep every night as his arms sink around its softness.

Khun wakes and pouts as he pokes the fluffy toy. It's so big that all he can see is Bam's arms wrapped around it. His finger sinks into the plush. It really is amazingly soft. Then, Khun realizes what he needs. He needs a plushie of his own.

When Bam arrives that afternoon he does a double take. His blue bear is sitting on its special place on the couch as usual. But there's another bear just as big on the floor. It's brown with luminous yellow eyes. And sprawled over it, flipping channels lazily is Khun.

"You're right," Khun says. "These bears really are the best for cuddling." He returns to watching his show with a contented grin.

The bed does get a little crowded with two grown men and two oversized bears. But Khun doesn't mind. He's already drifting off to the cuddly warmth settled in his arms.

Khun brings the brown bear along as he does everything. Sitting on it as he works on his lighthouse. Lounging with it whenever he needs to go over reports.

He gets so immersed with work that he fails to see the deepening crease between Bam's brows.

Until one day, Khun wakes to too much warmth and heavy arms locked around his waist.

"Where's my Mr. Night?" Khun complains, half asleep.

"Who's Mr. Night?" says the growl in his ear.

"My cuddly bear," Khun yawns and reaches out to feel around for the missing plushie.

"Won't you rather cuddle with me?" Bam asks, sounding a little petulant.

"Mr. Night is softer. You can hug your blue bear," Khun mumbles sleepily as gets up to reclaim his plushie.

"Sent them both to the guest room." Bam pulls him back. "I like hugging you better."

"Really now?" Khun chuckles gently.

"Yes," Bam says, nuzzling Khun's nape. "And your hair is softer too."

"I still want my plushie back."

"Khun!" Bam spoons him closer.

"What?"

"Just go back to sleep."

"Fine."

See? Bam always gets what he wants. And maybe Khun does too.
