[five years ago]
“how is it that out of this entire universe, i managed to find you?” you ask as you look at your best friend who is mindlessly tracing the outlines of constellations with his finger.
“i guess it was meant to be.” jaemin replies, tearing his gaze away from the stars shining brightly above you to look into your eyes.
“you’re so cheesy sometimes.” you sigh with a smile, flicking your eyes back to the clear night sky above you.
you and jaemin have been best friends for a few years. the minute you met, the two of you clicked. it’s as if you were destined to be by each other’s sides, chosen by the stars themselves to protect each other.
“you see that star right there? the one just under the big dipper’s handle?” jaemin points to the star and faces you.
“yeah, what about it?” you reply.
“that’s my y/n star. i will think of you whenever i look at it.” jaemin smiles as his gaze wonders back to his “y/n star”.
“see the one next to it? the bright one to the right?” you ask.
“yeah, i see it.” jaemin replies.
“that’s my nana star. i will think of you whenever i look at it. it’s right beside your y/n star so we’ll always be together, no matter how far apart we are.” you say, smiling at the stars.
“who’s the cheesy one now?” your best friend laughs.
you’re about to respond but you get cut off by jaemin suddenly moving his body to face you. he slowly leans his face towards yours, giving you plenty of time to back away. when you don’t move, he closes the gap and gently places his lips on your own. you freeze up for a second but quickly regain your thoughts and kiss your best friend back. his lips are soft and warm as they mold against your own as if they are the final piece to your puzzle, created to fit perfectly with your own.
hours seem to pass (it was only really a minute) as you kiss your best friend under the stars, feeling at home in his comforting hold.
you both pull away for air and smile as you rest your foreheads against each other.
you exchange kisses and smiles for the rest of the night until you both fall asleep in each other’s arms, resting under the beautiful night sky.

[present day]
since that day, you and jaemin have been together. he’s your star, your happiness, the love and light of your life. everything was perfect. the two of you planned to travel the world together, have a family and grow old together but the universe seems to have other plans.
you silently cry as you now sit beside his hospital bed, hoping and praying to whoever’s listening that he will be okay.
jaemin was in an accident three days ago which left him on the verge of death, now in a critical condition with machines being the only thing keeping him alive. jaemin smiles sadly as he looks at you, gently lifting his hand to wipe the tears from your cheeks.
“nana, don’t move too much, okay?” you say, worried that he’ll accidentally unplug one of the life support machines that are connected to various parts of his body.
“y/n, just know that whatever happens, i love you more than anything. you mean everything to me and i will love you forever and ever.i’ll always be with you, my star.” the boy whispered.
jaemin gently placed his cold lips on your own as he kissed you one last time.
“i love you, jaemin.” you whisper as you place a hand on his cold cheek, looking into his beautiful brown eyes.
even on his death bed, jaemin’s eyes are still the most beautiful pair you’ve ever seen.
“i’ll always be with you, i promise. i love you, y/n.” jaemin says barely above a whisper and smiles sadly as you watch him take a finaly breath before the life leaves his body.
you cry until your tears run dry. he’s really gone. jaemin, your love, your everything is gone.
that night, his star shone brighter than it ever had, a reminder that you’ll always be together, no matter how far apart you may be.
