Work Text:
This one is sort of a follow up to my Dawson´s Creek series "Running from Myself" but can be enjoyed on its own too. The only tie-in to it, is that Dawson and Audrey are together as a couple in this "timeline".
1. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
CAPTION:
CAPESIDE, 2018
Pacey is looking full of worry, as he paces (no pun intended) back and forth, while he waits for news on something. He has Dawson there with him, who´s trying to keep him calm.
Pacey:
Is it supposed to take this long?
Dawson:
It´s only been a few hours, since they brought her in. Unless, that baby comes flying out of her, you´ll have to wait at least a few more hours, for any news about Joey.
Pacey:
I just feel so powerless.
Dawson:
I know how you feel. When it was Audrey´s turn, I was driving myself mad with thinking up all of the worst-case scenarios.
Pacey:
How long did it take for her?
Dawson:
Seven hours of agony for both of us. You´re no different than every other first-time dad in this situation, not counting the deadbeat dads of the world, of course.
Pacey sits down next to him and shakes his head.
Pacey:
I don´t know how I´m going to get through that long!
Dawson:
Think happy thoughts, like back to all of the great times you two had in getting to this point. Better yet, why don´t you recount them to me?
Pacey:
You were there for most of it!
Dawson:
I´m sure, there are some parts, I haven´t heard. Come on, it´ll pass the time.
Dawson looks Pacey in the eyes and Pacey seems to agree with him.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
We´re back with Dawson and Pacey.
Dawson:
I guess, your first kiss had to be that time when you got lost out in nature and you asked me, if you could ask her out afterwards. Which I said no to, but you kissed her anyway, I might add!
Pacey:
You have that wrong, my friend! First you said yes, then no, then yes again. I remember it, like it was yesterday. You were too busy obsessing over a cute little blonde from New York at the time.
Dawson:
It was implied!
Pacey:
Actually, that wasn´t the first time we kissed. That technically came years before, when we were around 8, I think.
Dawson:
I don´t remember hearing this before!
Dawson looks curious.
3. Ext. Playground. Day.
8-year-old Pacey is hanging from the Jungle Jim by his feet with his head down and is looking like a pretty care-free kid.
From an upside-down point of view (Pacey´s), we see the 8-year-old version of Joey approaching him.
Little Joey:
Hi, Pacey. Can we talk for a sec?
Little Pacey:
Isn´t that what we´re doing right now?
Little Joey:
It would be a lot easier if you weren´t hanging upside down!
He gets her point and climbs off the Jungle Jim.
Little Pacey:
Dawson is off to see his grandparents this weekend, if that´s what you´re asking.
Little Joey:
It´s not. Look, if I ask you for help with something, do you promise not to laugh at me?
Little Pacey:
As long as it´s not some girly problem. I prefer not to hear about those things.
Little Joey:
I don´t blame you! Sometimes it freaks me out to think about how my body will develop someday! It´s ... it´s about a cat, okay?
Little Pacey has to laugh a little, to little Joey´s annoyance.
Little Joey:
You said, you wouldn´t laugh, Pacey!
Little Pacey:
I´m sorry, Jo. Did it purr too loudly at you?
Little Joey:
It´s really vicious and it´s tried to attack me on the way home from Dawson´s twice already! Just forget it!
She starts to walk away, but the good guy comes up in him.
Little Pacey:
Wait, Jo! We can figure something out that will work.
She turns around and looks him in the eyes.
Little Joey:
No more laughing at me?
Little Pacey:
No more, I promise. It´s about time, you and I got to know one another better, since it doesn´t look like Dawson and you will stop being friends anytime soon.
She looks pleased.
4. Ext. Forest Road. Day.
Little Joey and Little Pacey are walking through the forest together, while keeping a keen lookout for this "Dangerous Cat".
Little Joey:
It´s usually around here, i run into it.
Little Pacey:
It´s just a cat! How tough can it be?
Just then, the cat in question comes walking towards them and hisses menacingly at them. It´s no ordinary cat either, going by how big it is. Little Joey immediately becomes scared, while Little Pacey gulps at the sight of it.
Little Pacey:
Joey, I have to confess something. All that talk about how brave, I am. Those were all lies!
Little Joey:
Now, do you see what I mean?
Little Pacey:
Yeah, I do. Look, maybe if we tried yelling at it, that would work.
Little Joey:
GET OUT OF HERE, YOU DUMB CAT!
Little Pacey:
YOU´RE UGLY AND YOU SMELL LIKE DEAD MICE!
Little Joey:
That was a good one!
Little Pacey:
Thanks. It doesn´t look like it´s working, though!
The cat only takes their shouting at it as a challenge to a fight and starts running towards them. Both of them panic and run into the forest together. Once they´re a little away from the road, they hide behind a tree, so it can´t see them and try to keep quiet. After a few seconds, Little Pacey takes a peek and sees that the cat has lost interest in them and is walking on.
Little Pacey:
I think, we´re safe.
Little Joey:
Thanks for at least trying to help me, Pacey.
They smile at one another.
Little Pacey:
You´re welcome, Jo. Although, it wasn´t like I did anything, apart from running away like a girl! No offense.
Little Joey:
None taken. You know, Pacey. For a boy, you´re not half-bad! I mean, you´re no Dawson, but you´re not too far from it either.
Little Pacey:
I´ll take it as a compliment, coming from you. What do you say, we get you home safely and I can call my dad from your house, to see if he´ll pick me up?
Little Joey:
It sounds like a plan.
They begin to make their way back to the road with Joey walking in front of him.
Joey:
So, is you dad a ...
She turns her head to look at him and doesn´t notice a tree root, that she can get her foot caught under. It does and she begins to fall. He instinctively catches her arm to stop her from it, but it only leads to him also falling down on top of her. They land on the forest bed, with their lips touching very momentarily before he gets off her again and starts wiping his mouth, while she does the same.
Little Joey:
Ew, ew, ew! What did you do that for?
Little Pacey:
I was trying to stop you from falling! I´m sorry!
Little Joey:
I can´t believe, that was my first kiss! You jerk!
Little Pacey:
Do you think, I wanted to kiss you? I pictured that my first kiss would be when I´m much older and with some girl, who´s a total knockout! Not someone, who barely counts as a girl to begin with!
Little Joey gets up and dusts her clothes off.
Little Joey:
Can we agree not to mention this to anyone, like ever?
Little Pacey:
You don´t need to convince me. Yuck, I kissed a girl and worst of all, it was you!
Little Joey:
At least the feeling is mutual. Let´s just get back to my house, so you can call your dad.
They begin to make their way to her house.
5. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
We´re back in the present with Pacey and Dawson, who are both laughing a little.
Dawson:
I´m not sure if counts as a kiss, but it is a cute story!
Pacey:
We didn´t speak a word to one another on the way back to her house, or the next few weeks from what I remember. Even when we did, the only word either of us could come up with was "hi".
Dawson:
I don´t think, you´ve ever told me that story before.
Pacey:
Can you blame me? First of all, it involved me being scared of a cat, which when you´re eight is perfect fodder for playground teasing! Then, as we got older and it looked clearer that you and her were starting to develop "Overly Friendly" feelings for one another, I didn´t want to tell you that I´d technically been there before you had and ruin your image of her as a perfect, untouched angel.
Dawson:
You always were a good friend, Pacey.
Pacey:
Most of the time, when I wasn´t stealing your soulmate away from you.
Dawson:
Got any other stories, you want to tell me?
Pacey thinks about it for a moment.
Pacey:
Did she ever tell you about that time in grade seven, when she tried to make you so jealous by flirting with me that she though it would lead to you guys kissing?
Dawson:
Grade seven? I don´t remember that at all!
Pacey:
That´s probably because she was too embarrassed by the whole thing to tell you and let´s just say that the twelve-year-old version of Joey wasn´t exactly a master at flirting just yet. It should be said that I wasn´t there for all of it, but I´ll try to fill in the blanks, the best I can from what she's told me.
Dawson already smiles to himself with anticipation.
6. Int. Junior High Cafeteria. Day.
The tween version of Joey is looking annoyed and feeling left out during the lunch break. She´s eating at a table with Dawson and Pacey, while they talk about girls, they like.
Tween Pacey:
Have you seen that new girl, who just started here, Kristy? She´s fine!
Tween Dawson:
Do you like her?
Tween Pacey:
I´m just saying that if she happened to want to get to know me better ...
Tween Joey:
You´ve said that about every girl, you guys have talked about for the past twenty minutes! Can we change the subject here?
Tween Dawson:
Sorry, Joey.
Tween Pacey:
Don´t apologize to her! Just because our salty friend here hasn´t discovered the "other side" of the opposite sex yet, doesn´t mean we can´t talk about others of those, who are somehow biologically still the same species, as her.
Tween Joey:
Girls aren´t a species, Pacey! God, you can sound so dumb sometimes!
Tween Pacey:
We can´t all be annoying little over-achievers, can we?
Tween Dawson:
Will you two stop it? I´m getting tired of your bickering all the time!
Pacey decides to be the bigger man and sticks out his hand to her.
Tween Pacey:
Truce?
Tween Joey:
Okay, Truce.
They shake on it.
Tween Pacey:
You want to talk about something else, let´s talk about something else. Like which two lucky females, Dawson and I are going to ask to the upcoming dance.
Tween Joey:
I would suggest bringing a mannequin doll. Sorry, Pace, force of habit!
Tween Pacey:
You´re already forgiven.
Tween Dawson:
Me and Joey have already agreed to hold a movie night.
Pacey looks a little annoyed with him.
Tween Pacey:
Are you two officially joined at the hip now?
Tween Joey:
We just don´t want to go to some stupid dance! What´s the big deal?
Tween Pacey:
The big deal is that you´re depriving yourself of experiencing the grand, American tradition that it is to go on an extremely awkward date with some girl, or boy in your case, Jo, where you get to be stared at by all of their friends throughout the evening, and get the bonus of going home disappointed afterwards, because she told you that she isn´t ready to have a boyfriend yet. Or girlfriend for you, Jo. Unless there´s something you´re keeping from us.
Tween Joey:
Even if there was, you´re the last one I would tell about it!
Tween Pacey:
Come to think of it, you would still be the girl in either scenario.
Tween Joey:
Bite me, Pacey!
Tween Dawson:
I guess, we could go, for once. What do you say, Joey? Wanna be my date for the dance?
Joey lights up in a small smile at him having asked her.
Tween Joey:
Yeah, sure!
She´s clearly already looking forward to it a lot.
7. Int. Junior High Gymnasium. Evening.
The grade 7 dance is well underway, but a few of those who aren´t dancing are Joey and Dawson, both of whom look a little bored, as they sit at a table together.
Tween Joey:
Are you sure, you don´t want to dance again?
Tween Dawson:
We already danced to like, five songs.
Tween Joey (muttering to herself):
Try three!
Tween Dawson:
What did you say?
Tween Joey:
Nothing important.
Pacey comes over to them and sits down, looking disappointed and dejected.
Tween Joey:
Let me guess. Your date wasn´t a huge success?
Tween Pacey:
I found out that she´s an enormous Backstreet Boys fan. After hearing her gush over the so-called brilliance of "I Want it that Way" for fifteen minutes, I couldn´t look at her the same way again!
Tween Dawson:
Tough luck, Pacey,
Tween Pacey:
I´m pretty much over it already.
Tween Joey:
I hate to tell you, Pacey, but if you keep going after random girls, it probably won´t be the last time, something like this happens to you!
He looks her in the eyes daringly and she´s clearly ready for another round of verbal sparring with him.
Tween Pacey:
At least, I can say that I´ve been on a date now!
Tween Joey:
Like that´s some sort of achievement? I could get a date too, if I asked every boy here.
Tween Pacey:
Why don´t you, then?
Tween Joey:
Because my demands go above " Must be of the opposite sex"! You´re the one, who´s a total slave to your hormones!
Tween Dawson:
Stop it! Can we say that we´ve been here and go home now?
Tween Pacey:
Do what you want. I´m trying my luck with one of the benchwarmers.
Tween Joey:
I can go and grab our coats, Dawson, if you give me your ticket to the coatroom.
Dawson gets his ticket from his pocket and hands it to her.
Tween Dawson:
Thanks, Joey.
She leaves them and Pacey stands up, as he looks over at the girls, who are there without a date.
Tween Pacey:
Which of those do you think, is least likely to turn me down?
Tween Dawson:
I really can´t say, Pace.
A cute blonde girl their own age comes over to them, looking a little shy. We know her as Kristy.
Tween Kristy:
Hi, I´m Kristy. Do you want to dance?
Tween Pacey:
Yeah, sure!
Tween Kristy:
Actually, I meant your friend.
She smiles at Dawson.
Tween Dawson:
Will you excuse us for a second?
He doesn´t know how to react, so he pulls Pacey a little aside for a moment.
Tween Dawson:
What do I do?
Tween Pacey:
Duh! You say yes! She´s a fox! Sure, she´s a very little fox, but a fox all the same!
Tween Dawson:
What about Joey? We just said ...
Tween Pacey:
Let me worry about her. Now, go and dance with the pretty girl, before she thinks you don´t want to and leaves.
Dawson smiles back at Kristy, as he walks up to her.
Tween Dawson:
Yes. I´d love to dance with you, Kristy. I´m Dawson.
Tween Pacey:
I´m Pacey, by the way. His best friend. It´s nice to finally talk to you, Kristy.
Tween Kristy:
You too, Pacey. Shall we, Dawson?
Dawson takes her hand and is led out onto the dancefloor by her. Pacey can´t help looking a little jealous, as Joey comes back with her and Dawson´s coats.
Tween Joey:
Did Dawson go to the bathroom or something?
Tween Pacey:
The correct answer would be something! Look!
He points out Kristy and Dawson to her and the massive disappointment is written all over her face.
8. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
We´re back in the present with Pacey and Dawson.
Dawson:
I remember that, now that you mention it.
Pacey:
Did anything ever happen there?
Dawson:
We talked a handful of times afterwards. Then, she found a real boyfriend and lost all interest in me.
Pacey:
Even if nothing happened, Dawson, I can tell you that it was enough to nearly make our much beloved Joey go off the deep end.
Dawson looks keen to find out more.
9. Int. Junior High Hallway. Day.
Dawson and Kristy are talking, while Joey watches them with a scowl on her face from her locker, a little away from them. Pacey comes over to her.
Tween Pacey:
Josephine Potter, just the girl, I was looking for!
Tween Joey:
Hey, Pacey. What does Dawson see in her?
Tween Pacey:
Kristy? She´s cute and easy to talk to, I guess. I need your dad to make a reservation for five tonight. Doug is introducing his first girlfriend to our parents and wants a neutral ground to do it on.
Tween Joey:
Took him long enough, didn´t it?
Tween Pacey:
Some guys are just late bloomers, I guess.
Tween Joey:
Sure, I´ll tell him.
Tween Pacey:
Cool! See you later.
Tween Joey:
Later, Pacey.
Pacey heads up the hallway, while Joey tries to get her eyes off Dawson and Kristy.
10. Int. The Icehouse. Evening.
Joey is getting some sisterly advice from Bessie, while they wait for more customers to arrive. Joey isn´t working there yet though.
Tween Joey:
Bessie, how do you get a boy to like you?
Young Bessie:
Is this Dawson, we´re talking about?
Tween Joey:
Is it that obvious?
Young Bessie:
I probably knew that you had a crush on him, before you did.
Tween Joey:
How did you used to do it, before you met Bodie?
Young Bessie:
You could just tell him.
Tween Joey:
I´m not ready to do that yet!
Young Bessie:
You could try to send him signals, but if I remember correctly, twelve-year-old boys aren´t exactly experts at picking up on those. Whatever you do, don´t do what I did, when I was your age and had my first crush.
Joey becomes curious.
Tween Joey:
What did you do?
Young Bessie:
I tried to make him jealous by flirting with his best friend.
Tween Joey:
It didn´t work?
Young Bessie:
It did in the sense that after his friend fell for me, I felt sorry for him and went out with him. After we broke up, I had fallen under the bro-code.
Tween Joey:
The Bro-code?
Young Bessie:
It´s this guy thing, like if one guy has dated a girl, then his buddies aren´t supposed to either.
Tween Joey:
That sounds really dumb!
Bessie laughs.
Young Bessie:
You´ll get used to "dumb" when you get to high school, trust me!
Tween Joey:
Do you think, it could have worked?
Young Bessie:
I guess that theoretically, it could have. It wasn´t the best of plans, but it isn´t like it´s unthinkable.
Pacey comes in with his family and Bessie springs to action.
Bessie:
Witter, party of five?
Tween Pacey:
That´s us!
Bessie:
Come with me!
Bessie leads them over to their table, while Joey wonders, if she should try her sister´s old plan.
11. Ext. Junior High. Morning.
Pacey arrives for school, just as Joey is being dropped off by Bessie in front of it. She gets out of the car and runs over to him.
Tween Joey:
Pacey, hi!
Tween Pacey:
Hey. You need to thank your dad on my behalf for that dinner last night. That was top notch!
Tween Joey:
I will.
She tries to put on her best flirty face for him, but he doesn´t see it.
Tween Joey:
You look really great this morning.
Tween Pacey:
I´m feeling great too, so that´s probably why.
Tween Joey:
No, I meant you ... never mind!
Tween Pacey:
Are you okay, Joey? You seem a little flustered.
Tween Joey:
Yeah, it´s just ... Pacey, do you think, I´m attractive? Like, at all?
He stops walking so they can talk.
Tween Pacey:
You´re nowhere close to being ugly, if that´s what you´re afraid of. Both me and Dawson can easily agree on that!
He gets a small smile out of her.
Tween Joey:
That´s something, I guess.
Tween Pacey:
If I have to be honest, I will even go so far, as to say that you´re well above average.
Tween Joey:
Is Kristy prettier than I am?
Tween Pacey:
What does she ...
Pacey puts two and two together and smiles to himself.
Tween Pacey:
Do you have a crush on Dawson?
Tween Joey:
No, I ...
Tween Pacey:
You so do!
Tween Joey:
Please don´t tell him, okay? It´s embarrassing enough that you know now.
Tween Pacey:
Joey, Kristy is just a girl, he´s danced with a few times. You´re the second most important female member of his life, after his mom. He´s told me so himself.
Joey looks glad to hear it.
Tween Joey:
Am I important to you?
Tween Pacey:
Sure, you are. In a platonic, friend kind of way, where I don´t really think of you as a girl. You´re a "Goy", half girl and half boy to me.
They smile at one another.
12. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
We´re back in the present with Pacey and Dawson again.
Pacey:
She told me years later, after we´d started dating, that it was the first time she felt like, she could be attractive too. I had no idea that she was trying to hit on me.
Dawson:
Would you have gone for it, if it had been you, she had a crush on?
Pacey:
In a second! Then again, my standards were very low back in those days!
Dawson:
Basically, all she needed to have were female private parts?
Pacey:
More or less! It wasn´t until Andie ... speak of the devil, here she is!
Andie comes hurrying over to them.
Andie:
Hi, guys! How far along is she?
Dawson:
It hasn´t been all that long, since we came here. You´re in good time.
Andie:
Great!
She sits down next to them.
Andie:
Can you believe my luck, that the first time I´m back here in months is the exact time, two of my best friends become parents together?
Pacey:
Like you weren´t planning for it? I know you, Andie!
Andie:
Okay, so I may have scheduled my trip for now, in the hope that I would hit the right date! Are you excited, Pacey?
Pacey:
That and wishing, we´ll get some news soon.
Andie:
If she´s just been brought in, then it could be a while.
Dawson:
We´ve been spending the time telling old Joey and Pacey stories.
Pacey:
There´s a couple of good ones too, from the summer we were away sailing together.
Andie:
That was some crazy summer, huh?
Dawson:
It had its moments.
Pacey:
I thought, you were miserable all summer over me and Joey getting together, like we did.
Andie:
We were at first, until ... Dawson, don´t you think it´s time, we told him?
Pacey becomes suddenly intrigued.
Pacey:
Dawson, what´s she talking about?
Dawson:
You have to remember that I was heartbroken, after what you and Joey had done.
Andie:
It all began the day after you and Joey had left Capeside for the summer.
She looks like she´s ready to get the truth out.
13. Ext. Capeside Beach. Day.
Andie is enjoying a day at the beach with Jen, an idea they´re clearly not alone in having had.
Teenage Andie:
Do you think, Joey and Pacey have done it yet?
Teenage Jen:
Andie, you can´t keep obsessing over it, or it´ll ruin your entire summer!
Teenage Andie:
I know! Don´t you at least agree with me that she was being a bad friend, for not being open with me, about what she was doing with Pacey?
Teenage Jen:
Sure, I do. Then again, I can also see from her perspective, how hard it would have been to get it out there. You and Pacey were a couple for a long while.
Teenage Andie:
If you have any magical cures for feeling betrayed lying around, I could sure use one!
Teenage Jen:
You could sleep with Dawson. That would get her riled up!
Teenage Andie:
Seriously?
Teenage Jen:
You can´t deny that he´s one of the best-looking guys our age in town and he´s single.
Teenage Andie:
Yeah, but there´s no way, he could be interested in me, is there?
Teenage Jen:
If I were into making out with girls, I´d date you.
Teenage Andie:
Aww, that´s sweet of you to say, Jen. I´d date you too, if I swung that way!
Teenage Jen:
Sometimes the best relationships come out of unusual circumstances. Look at me and Henry. If you´d told me at the beginning of last school year, that I would be in love with a Football player, who´s a year younger than I am, I would have called you the worst predictor in the entire world. It makes a lot more sense for you and Dawson to be together, than me and him, when you think about it.
Andie does so.
14. Int. Video Store. Evening.
Dawson is doing his work at the video store, when Andie comes in.
Teenage Dawson:
Hi, Andie. Need some entertainment for tonight?
Teenage Andie:
Got any recommendations?
Teenage Dawson:
It depends on what you´re in the mood for.
Teenage Andie:
I could go for a great love story.
Teenage Dawson:
That narrows it down a little. Anything else?
Teenage Andie:
How about a story about a girl, who pretends to be another girl´s best friend, while she´s secretly making out with the other girl´s ex-boyfriend that she knows very well, the second girl still has feelings for, until they get found out in a grand, embarrassing finale?
Dawson gets what she´s talking about.
Teenage Dawson:
We don´t have any of those. But there is one here about a guy, who never in his wildest dreams thought that his best friend would go after his soulmate. Especially, when he was told over and over again by said guy that he had nothing to worry about.
Teenage Andie:
Dawson, I know that it´s easy to throw all of the blame on Pacey, but she deserves her share of it too. She lied to both of us, as much as he did.
Teenage Dawson:
Did you come down here, just to remind me of the awfulness of my current situation?
Teenage Andie:
Don´t you feel like getting back at them, for what they did?
Teenage Dawson:
Sure, but how? They must be a hundred miles away by now.
Teenage Andie:
How do you think the two of them would react, if they came back to find out that the two of us ... you know?
Dawson laughs nervously, as she smiles at him.
Teenage Dawson:
Are you serious?
Teenage Andie:
Why not? It isn´t like there are any other single guys around here, who´s been as welcoming to us, or as great of a friend to me and my brother, since we came here, as you have. Not to mention, that you have kind of a cute butt!
Teenage Dawson:
I ... ehm ...
Teenage Andie:
I´m just putting it out there. You don´t need to answer now.
Teenage Dawson:
Okay, I guess!
Teenage Andie:
You know what I´m in the mood for? A nice, uncomplicated Meg Ryan comedy, where she gets her guy and lives happily ever after with him.
Teenage Dawson:
"French Kiss" is pretty good, if you haven´t seen it. It´s got her and Kevin Kline, who´s doing his best to pretend not be gay and be French at the same time.
Teenage Andie:
Sounds perfect!
He looks for the tape for her.
Teenage Andie:
If you want to try one of those from the title for yourself, all you have to do is ask.
He smiles to himself and definitely isn´t entirely uninterested.
15. Int. Dawson´s Room. Evening.
Dawson is watching E.T. by himself, that´s when his eyes don´t stray, as they do frequently, to a picture he has on his wall of him and Joey together. Seeing as it´s stealing his attention away, he almost takes it down, but when looking at Joey´s sweet smile in the picture, he can´t get himself to do it after all. There´s a knock on his door.
Teenage Dawson:
Come in!
The door opens and his dad Mitch comes in.
Mitch:
Your mom and I are off to bed, so I just wanted to say goodnight. E.T. again?
Teenage Dawson:
I thought it would cheer me up, to get a dose of "blast from the past". All it does is remind me of Joey and Pacey.
Mitch closes the door after himself and sits down next to Dawson, who pauses the movie with his remote.
Teenage Dawson:
Dad, how long did it take you to get over your first broken heart?
Mitch:
Not all that long. Then again, I wasn´t as anywhere near as close with that girl, as you are with Joey and she didn´t run off to be with my best friend.
Dawson shakes his head at the whole situation.
Mitch:
The one positive here, is that you have almost the entire summer to get over it, before they return home.
Teenage Dawson:
What if they decide not to? I could end up never seeing her again!
Mitch:
She´s coming back! You know Joey, there´s no way she would leave her sister high and dry.
Teenage Dawson:
Ever since our first kiss, I´ve always imagined that we would end up together, like it happens in the movies.
Mitch:
Some of those movies include plot twists too. I know that Capeside is small, but Joey isn´t the only girl your age in town. What about Jen? You two are still close, aren´t you?
Teenage Dawson:
She already has a boyfriend. There is Andie, I guess. We´ve never had a single problem getting along, and she´s not half-bad looking.
Mitch:
There you go! Ask her out!
Teenage Dawson:
Do you really think, I should? I´m pretty sure, she isn´t over Pacey yet.
Mitch:
In that case, you have something in common, since you´re not over Joey yet. Do you remember your great-grandfather, Albert?
Teenage Dawson:
Not really. I was only a few years old, when he passed away.
Mitch:
What you might not know about him, is that his first wife ran off in the middle of the night with his best friend, who was also married. Do you know what happened next?
Teenage Dawson:
I´m guessing that he got together with the other guy´s wife.
Mitch:
She was the one, I grew up calling grandma and I didn´t even hear about his first wife, until at the wake after his funeral. I´m sure that there were some mountains for the two of them to climb, especially in those first difficult months afterwards, but once they got past that point, they never looked back. If they had, it´s very likely that neither of us would be here right now.
They smile at one another.
Teenage Dawson:
I suppose there wouldn´t be any harm in us trying to go on a date and seeing, if we hit it off.
Mitch:
Sometimes, these things, as bad as they can seem at the time, happen for a reason, so we can give someone else a chance, then that one girl, who seems like she´s so far above all of the others of them. Give Andie a chance and you might just find out, that you could grow to like her as much or more, as you do with Joey. You´ll never know, though, unless you take that chance on her.
Dawson nods like he understands what his dad means.
16. Int. Video Store. Day.
Dawson is stacking shelves with video tapes, when he sees Andie and Jen walking by outside. He hurries out of there to catch them.
17. Ext. Street in Capeside. Day.
Andie is walking down the street of the sunny, summer version of Capeside with Jen, when Dawson sees the two girls. He hurries to catch up with them.
Teenage Dawson:
Hey! Nice day, huh?
Teenage Jen:
Shouldn´t you be working right now, Dawson?
Teenage Dawson:
I am, which is why I only have a moment. Andie, can we talk?
Andie gives Jen a pleading look, and doesn´t have to say anymore for Jen to get it.
Teenage Jen:
You know what? I feel a sudden need for a cold refreshment to deal with this heat! I´ll be outside the corner store down the street, when you´re ready, Andie.
Jen leaves them and they smile at one another.
Teenage Andie:
So, have you thought about what I said?
Teenage Dawson:
Yes, and I think we should try going on a date.
Andie looks pleased.
Teenage Andie:
Only, I´d prefer it, if it wasn´t anywhere, where my brother could find out about it, yet.
Teenage Dawson:
That´s completely understandable. If my mom heard about it, she´d go into overdrive mode.
Teenage Andie:
You don´t think, my dad and Jack would?
Teenage Dawson:
Of course, her and my dad won´t be home tomorrow, not until very late, anyway. I could make some dinner, we could watch a movie or two and see, where the evening takes us.
Teenage Andie:
Sounds great! No horror movies, though!
Teenage Dawson:
I´ll make sure to pick some movies, I know will be to your taste.
Teenage Andie:
Nice! I´m looking forward to it. Do I need to bring anything?
Teenage Dawson:
No, just your bubbly personality. Is six o´clock good for you?
Teenage Andie:
Sure!
Teenage Dawson:
I should get back to the store, before someone robs us. Have a great day, and I´ll see you tomorrow!
Teenage Andie:
You too.
He heads back to work. She´s clearly looking forward to their date.
18. Int. Leery Kitchen. Evening.
Dawson´s mom can barely believe, what she´s seeing: her son actually cooking by himself!
Gail:
I almost feel like, I should be taking a picture of this!
Teenage Dawson:
Mom, it´s just Spaghetti Bolognese! It isn´t like it´s the world´s hardest dish to make!
Gail:
That´s a lot of spaghetti sauce for just one person, even a growing boy like yourself. Just saying!
Teenage Dawson:
I´m also very hungry, so I´ll probably eat all of it.
Mitch comes in and looks ready to leave.
Mitch:
Are we good to go?
Gail:
I can´t see why we shouldn´t be! Have a nice evening, Dawson.
Teenage Dawson:
Same to you.
Mitch can´t help himself, being a cook and all, from grabbing a teaspoon and getting a taste of Dawson´s spaghetti sauce.
Mitch:
It needs a little more salt.
Teenage Dawson:
Thanks, dad. Drive safe, you hear?
His dad mouths "good luck" to him on the way out with his mom and Dawson adds a little more salt to his sauce. He gives it a taste and looks satisfied with it.
19. Int. Jen´s Room. Evening.
Andie is getting help from Jen in getting ready for her date with Dawson. Jen sees out of her window, that Mitch and Gail are getting into their car.
Teenage Jen:
There they go! Now, the Leery house can officially be re-named "Dawson and Andie´s Private Love Nest"! Or, at least for the next four to five hours!
Teenage Andie:
I don´t even know if we´re going to make out yet! Do you think, we´re going to?
Teenage Jen:
Well, do you want to?
Teenage Andie:
That is sort of the purpose, when you agree to a date with someone, isn´t it?
Teenage Jen:
Look, the only ones who decide what´s going to happen tonight, are you and Dawson. If you get to the point of smooching, that´s great and if all you do is hold hands, that´s fine too. I would strongly advice against you going all the way this soon, though.
Teenage Andie:
You don´t that he would think that I ... would want that already, do you?
Jen shoots her a warm smile.
Teenage Jen:
When it comes to most of the boys his age, I would say yes. However, this is Dawson we´re talking about and he´s smart enough to know, not to jump into anything that wild and crazy right away. Not even to get back and Pacey and Joey, no matter how much they deserved it.
Teenage Andie:
I guess, this is it, then! It´s time to put the final nail in the coffin of any chance, that me and Pacey will get back together.
Teenage Jen:
If you´re having doubts ...
Teenage Andie:
No doubts here! I am one hundred percent and fully doubt-free!
Andie tries to look believable, but Jen isn´t entirely buying it.
20. Int. Leery Living Room. Evening.
Dawson has let Andie in and both of them look a little nervous.
Teenage Andie:
The food smells great!
Teenage Dawson:
It´s nearly done. All I have to do is drop some spaghetti into some boiling water with some salt in it, wait ten minutes and then it´s chow time!
Teenage Andie:
Great! Which movies did you get?
Teenage Dawson:
I rented "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Joe´s Volcano". I hope, that´s okay?
Teenage Andie:
Yeah, sure! I´m sorry, if I´m asking like a complete doofus here. I´m just ...
Teenage Dawson:
It´s okay, Andie. I´m nervous too. It´s been a while, since I last did this.
Teenage Andie:
Same here. I hope, me being so aggressive didn´t mean that you think, that I wanted to ... get in on with you. I mean, I might someday, if things work out that way, just not yet.
He laughs a little, which makes her ease up.
Teenage Dawson:
Let´s take this one step at the time, okay? We start with dinner, followed by some light conversation, before we move on to the movie part of the night. Whatever happens either does or it doesn´t.
Teenage Andie:
Okay!
She smiles sweetly at him but is still clearly a little nervous.
21. Int. Dawson´s Room. Evening.
Dawson and Andie are watching the ending to "Sleepless in Seattle" together, but while it´s just about the most romantic movie moment out there, it´s not doing it for either of them, as far as the romance goes. Instead, it´s kind of awkward for both of them. The credits begin playing, and he turns it off with his remote control.
Teenage Dawson:
That was a pretty decent movie, huh?
Teenage Andie:
Yeah, it´s one of my favorites.
Teenage Dawson:
Do you want to watch the other one now, or ...
Teenage Andie:
Dawson, don´t take this the wrong way, but I think that maybe I should just go home.
Teenage Dawson:
Why?
Teenage Andie:
I know that you´re trying and that it was me, who didn´t want us to be seen together in public. This however, isn´t what I pictured, when I asked you out.
Teenage Dawson:
Do you ... I don´t know ... want to try kissing?
Teenage Andie:
I guess, we could. It´s sort of date thing to do, isn´t it?
Teenage Dawson:
We don´t have to, if you don´t want to! It was just a suggestion.
Teenage Andie:
No, I want to! I really, really want to!
She tries to look convincing while saying so, but it´s not entirely working.
Teenage Dawson:
Me too! So ...
He´s looking no more convincing than Andie is, but doesn´t want her to feel rejected either. They slowly move in kiss and do, but it´s a rather short kiss and hardly one, that you could claim was romantic. Both of them look like they wish they hadn´t done it right afterwards.
Teenage Andie:
Dawson, ehm ... don´t take this as any criticism, but that kiss just now, it sort of felt like I was kissing my brother.
Teenage Dawson:
Strangely enough, I know exactly what you mean! Not that I have a sibling, who´s my own age, but ...
Teenage Andie:
You don´t have to explain. I´m just to glad hear, that it wasn´t only me!
Teenage Dawson:
What do you say, we agree never to mention this to anyone else or one another, ever again?
Teenage Andie:
I would say that you have yourself an agreement!
They smile at each other and shake on it.
22. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
We´re back in the present with Andie, Dawson and Pacey, who´s finding the story rather amusing.
Andie:
It still stands as by far the worst kiss of my life!
Dawson:
Eh ... I don´t know if it´s my worst, but it´s still in the top 3!
Pacey:
You could have just told me and Joey! If anything, I know that she would have laughed at it!
Dawson:
Would you have done the same, if you´d known that I´d gone after your ex?
Pacey:
Are you kidding? That would have made us even and we could have gone without that whole long period, where you treated me, like I had the plague.
Andie:
No, Dawson, you had to go after his older sister, in order for that to happen!
Dawson:
Yeah, that wasn´t my proudest moment, was it?
Pacey:
You helped her to get through a tough period, when none of the rest of us could, so you´ve long been forgiven for that one, Dawson.
Andie:
How´s she doing these days?
Pacey:
Not too bad. She´s living it up in New York with her husband and two kids, writing columns for a couple of music magazines down there.
They´re interrupted by Audrey, who comes over to them.
Audrey:
The doctors say that it shouldn´t be too long now. She´s doing great, Pacey. Everything is going as much according to plan, as it can.
Pacey looks relieved and gets a pad on the back from Dawson.
Andie:
Aren´t you supposed to be in there with her right now?
Audrey:
I couldn´t watch any more of it, to be honest! Going through it once was bad enough, but at least I didn´t have to watch it happening, like I were a fly on the wall!
Dawson:
Have a seat, Honey. We´ve been telling old stories to pass the time.
Andie:
Maybe you can tell one, from after I started being out of the loop?
Audrey:
Well ... did she ever tell you about the first time, she thought that she was pregnant with your child, Pacey?
Pacey looks a little confused.
Pacey:
Which first time?
Audrey:
It was very shortly after you and her got back together for, what was it, the third time? After Jen had passed away, I mean.
Pacey:
That would be the third time, yes.
Dawson:
I don´t recall Joey ever mentioning this to me either.
Audrey:
That´s probably because she doesn´t come off all that great in every part of the story. I however, was lucky enough to be a witness to every little bit of it. As it happened, I was going to spend a week here in Capeside anyway, to spend some time with my old buds.
Andie:
For once I feel like the normal one here, just for not having broken up and gotten back together at least three times with my hubby!
Audrey:
Joey, as you would expect in this situation, didn´t waste any time in telling me what was up.
The others look at Audrey with great interest.
23. Int. Joey´s Room at the Potter B and B. Evening.
The 25-year-old version of Joey is explaining things to Audrey, who´s trying to take it in.
25-year-old Joey:
I have no idea what I´m going to! I mean, we´ve just gotten back together, and I still haven´t decided whether it would be a good idea for us to move in together or not!
25-year-old Audrey:
You´re absolutely sure?
25-year-old Joey:
I´m already a week late on my period. This could end up ruining everything!
25-year-old Audrey:
Would it really be all that bad? You love Pacey, don´t you?
25-year-old Joey:
We´re still getting back into the groove of things, after five years of barely seeing one another, let alone being as close, as we used to be. Five years, where he´s gone from one woman to the next. You can see where I´m going with this, can´t you?
25-year-old Audrey:
Okay, so I get why you could have some slight doubts about him, but it´s Pacey! You two belong together like peanut butter and jelly!
25-year-old Joey:
16-year-old us did without a doubt. 20-year-old us still for the most part did, and it would have worked out better, if it hadn´t been for Eddie getting in the way. As far as 25-year-old us goes, I´m still not entirely certain yet.
25-year-old Audrey:
Have you taken a pregnancy test?
25-year-old Joey:
I won´t be able to find out for a few weeks.
She shakes her head at the situation, while Audrey gets an idea.
25-year-old Audrey:
In that case, why not put that time to good use?
25-year-old Joey:
What do you have in mind?
25-year-old Audrey:
How would you like to find out for sure, once and for all so there´s isn´t any shred of doubt in your mind, if you and Pacey are meant to last this time?
25-year-old Joey:
I say that it sounds great, it just isn´t all that realistic!
25-year-old Audrey:
Trust me, Joey. By the end of this week, you will know for sure. Mark my words!
Joey doesn´t look dismissive of whatever Audrey has in mind.
24. Int. The Icehouse. Day.
Pacey is working behind the bar counter, when a smiling Audrey comes in. He looks glad to see her.
25-year-old Pacey:
Our girl from L.A.! Back here in the flesh to terrorize the villagers once again?
25-year-old Audrey:
I only did that once!
25-year-old Pacey:
I´m just kidding! You know that we all love having you back here, whenever you grace us with your presence.
25-year-old Audrey:
I´ve been back two days and already, I´m running out of things to do, I haven´t done already.
25-year-old Pacey:
That´s Capeside for you. Can I get you anything?
25-year-old Audrey:
Something fruity.
25-year-old Pacey:
How does a glass of freshly made homemade lemonade strike you?
25-year-old Audrey:
Bring it on!
He pours her a glass of lemonade and she tastes it.
25-year-old Audrey:
Mmm! So, any suggestions for what a tourist, who´s already been here three times before, should do with her time here?
25-year-old Pacey:
It´s perfect sailing weather. Kind of makes me regret, that I have to spend most days cooped up in here.
25-year-old Audrey:
If I found a suitable replacement for you, would you take me out sailing? Please, Pacey, or I could turn out to be the first member of my family, to actually get bored to death on this vacation!
He laughs a little.
25-year-old Pacey:
We´ll also need a boat. It´s hard to go sailing without one!
25-year-old Audrey:
Don´t they rent them out, down at the harbor? Come on, it´ll be my treat!
25-year-old Pacey:
Okay, but I won´t hand over the restaurant to just anyone!
25-year-old Audrey:
Cool! This is really good lemonade, by the way.
25-year-old Pacey:
Thanks.
They smile at each other.
25. Ext. Capeside Docks. Day.
Joey and Audrey are waiting for Pacey to turn up.
25-year-old Audrey:
If you´re worried over his fidelity issues, you´ll soon find out for certain.
25-year-old Joey:
I really don´t think that he would go for it with you, even if he was single. Again, I mean.
25-year-old Audrey:
Because we´re friends? When has that ever stopped a guy from saying yes to some hot, forbidden sex, with no strings attached with an, might I say, incredibly beautiful girl like yours truly?
25-year-old Joey:
What if he does go for it?
25-year-old Audrey:
We have super-hot sex, of course!
25-year-old Joey:
Don´t even joke about that!
25-year-old Audrey:
I´ll politely tell him that he got the wrong idea, we´ll sail back to shore and that´s that.
Joey doesn´t look like she´s entirely on board with the idea, but also wants to find out just as badly.
26. Ext. Boat. Day.
Pacey and Audrey are out sailing, and he looks glad to be out to sea again. Her not so much.
25-year-old Audrey:
You´re sure, this boat is safe? I rented the cheapest one, they had!
25-year-old Pacey:
She´s seaworthy enough. Not enjoying the wonders of the sea?
25-year-old Audrey:
Us Liddell´s are land-based to the bone! I am enjoying, how much you´re enjoying it, however.
25-year-old Pacey:
Sailing has been in my blood, since I was born. My great-great-grandfather had one of the largest fishing boats up here, back when it was just a small village, with a few hundred houses. The Witter´s were the richest family here, back in those days.
25-year-old Audrey:
What changed it?
25-year-old Pacey:
Bad decision making, usually brought about by very heavy drinking!
25-year-old Audrey:
Oh, how that rings true with me!
25-year-old Pacey:
As if the rest of us haven´t made our share of mistakes. It´s who you are now, that matters.
25-year-old Audrey:
And who exactly are you, Pacey Witter?
25-year-old Pacey:
Right now, just a guy who´s cruising through life, trying to enjoy it all he can.
25-year-old Audrey:
So, you and Joey, it´s not anything serious yet?
25-year-old Pacey:
I don´t exactly know yet, that´s the problem. I mean, on one hand, I´m ready to make a commitment to her. On the other, I still don´t know if she´s going to decide someday soon, that she wants to go back to the city. Then, where will I be, if I´ve given myself completely to her again? Screwed, that´s where! Giving your heart to the same girl three separate times seems crazy enough, as it is, even without having to factor in all of that stuff.
She moves in closer to him and starts gently stroking his hand with one of hers. He looks confused on how to react to it.
25-year-old Audrey:
I could make you forget about her for a short while.
25-year-old Pacey:
Audrey, what are you doing?
25-year-old Audrey:
You can´t tell me that you don´t miss the excitement and passion, from when we would make love? I know, I do now and again.
25-year-old Pacey:
Audrey, what we had was great, for what it was at the time! Really, I have by far more positive memories of it, than I do negative. But that was what, six, seven years ago? I´ve changed a lot since then, and so have you!
25-year-old Audrey:
If you´re worried over Joey finding out, don´t be. I can keep a secret, if you can?
25-year-old Pacey:
Look, it´s not that I´m not flattered and if the situation had been different, then sure, why not? Just for old times' sake. The thing is, I love Joey and if this is my last chance with her, I´m not going to do anything, that could mess that up for us.
Audrey tries to look disappointed, but is clearly more relieved, than anything else.
27. Int. Joey´s Room at the Potter B and B. Evening.
Audrey is giving the low down to Joey.
25-year-old Audrey:
Apart for that bit with him being terrified that you´ll skip town at any moment, I would say that you have nothing to worry over.
25-year-old Joey:
I guess, I can understand where he´s coming from.
25-year-old Audrey:
Of course, having his child would be a great way of showing him ...
25-year-old Joey:
I still don´t know, if I´m pregnant or not. Plus, it´s not that I can´t see myself becoming a mom, but that would be the worst reason, I could think of to do it. I just need to have a talk with him, so he isn´t in any doubt over where he stands anymore.
25-year-old Audrey:
Next up, we need to test his fathering skills.
25-year-old Joey:
I have an idea on how we do that.
Audrey looks intrigued.
28. Ext. The Icehouse. Day.
Audrey and Joey are outside of the Icehouse and are coming up to it. Joey has a baby on her arm.
25-year-old Audrey:
How did you manage to score us a baby?
25-year-old Joey:
It´s parents didn´t seem to mind a day off from parenting, when I asked them. Officially, this baby hasn´t left the BNB all day, remember that.
25-year-old Audrey:
My lips are sealed. Don´t worry.
25-year-old Joey:
We have the security cameras hacked, so we can keep up with what he´s doing from my laptop. Hopefully, both baby and boy will come out of this intact, or I´m in big trouble!
They head inside.
29. Int. The Icehouse. Day.
Joey hands the baby to Pacey, who´s not looking like, he´s liking this all that much.
25-year-old Pacey:
Can´t you find anyone else to babysit this kid? I´m working here!
25-year-old Joey:
You know that I wouldn´t ask you, unless it was my last option.
25-year-old Audrey:
Unless you want this little guy ...
25-year-old Joey:
Girl.
25-year-old Audrey:
Girl. Really? It looks so much like a boy! Anyway, you don´t want it to be subjected to the terrors and horrible images, it could be subjected to at a hospital?
25-year-old Pacey:
How long are we talking here?
25-year-old Joey:
Four, maybe five hours at the most.
25-year-old Pacey:
Okay, I suppose. It won´t kill me, right? What´s her name?
25-year-old Joey:
It´s Emily. Thanks so much for doing this, Pacey.
25-year-old Audrey:
See you later!
The girls leave him, as he gently rocks little Emily in his arms.
30. Ext. Docks. Day.
Joey and Audrey are chilling out by the water, while keeping an eye on what Pacey is doing at the same time.
25-year-old Joey:
Enter our distraction.
25-year-old Audrey:
Who did you get to do it?
25-year-old Joey:
An old friend.
Joey smiles to herself.
31. Int. The Icehouse. Day.
Pacey is managing to take care of baby Emily, while still serving his customers in there. Grams comes in (as Joey´s plant) and walks up to him.
Grams:
Hello, Pacey.
25-year-old Pacey:
Evelyn! Have you come in for some lunch?
Grams:
You could say that. Who´s your little friend there?
25-year-old Pacey:
This is Emily. She´s going to grow up to become my assistant someday.
He lets Emily clutch his thumb with her hand and Grams smiles at the sight of it.
Grams:
She likes you, that much is obvious.
25-year-old Pacey:
Yeah, well, I also like that I get so hand her off to someone else in a few hours. Don´t get me wrong, I love babies, but having to deal with one, while you´re working at the same time, isn´t something I want to try every day. So, can I find you a table?
Grams:
I´m afraid, I didn´t come alone, Pacey.
Pacey makes wide eyes, when a long line of pensioners start coming in.
25-year-old Pacey:
Did you bring your entire church group here?
Grams:
We can go somewhere else, if it´s too much for you to handle right now.
25-year-old Pacey:
No, it´s fine! The more, the merrier, am I right?
He tries to look like he isn´t fazed by it.
32. Int. Icehouse Kitchen. Day.
Pacey is very busy getting the orders ready and barely has time to deal with baby Emily, who manages to pick up a knife. He quickly takes it from her again, though.
25-year-old Pacey:
Knives aren´t for babies to play with, Sweetie.
Emily starts crying, which is the last thing, he needs right now.
33. Ext. Docks. Day.
We´re back with Joey and Audrey.
25-year-old Audrey:
A screaming baby and lots of waiting customers! That what I call a high-stress situation!
25-year-old Joey:
Come on, Pacey!
Joey is looking a little anxious.
34. Int. Icehouse Kitchen. Day.
Pacey is handling it the exact perfect way and isn´t stressing over it, instead concentrating on calming Emily down first, while keeping the fort as far as the food preparation goes.
25-year-old Pacey:
There you go, Emily. The sweetest little Emily in the entire world, that´s what she is.
He manages to get Emily to calm down, while he finishes up the cooking.
35. Ext. Docks. Day.
Joey has her arms in the air in celebration, that Pacey passes with flying colors.
25-year-old Joey:
Like there was ever anything to be in doubt over?
25-year-old Audrey:
Congratulations, Joey. It looks like, he passed all of your tests. That only leaves the question of ...
25-year-old Joey:
Actually, it isn´t a question anymore. I got my period this morning.
25-year-old Audrey:
Does this mean, you´re staying here for good?
25-year-old Joey:
I don´t know about for good yet, but for now, I´m staying here and giving me and Pacey the chance, we should have had those other two times, before things got screwed up for us.
She looks happy with her choice.
36. Int. The Icehouse. Day.
Pacey and Emily (with a little help from Pacey) are waving goodbye Grams and her church group, as Joey comes in and walks up to him.
25-year-old Joey:
I hope, she wasn´t too much trouble.
25-year-old Pacey:
This little cutie? No, we had fun, didn´t we?
He gives Emily s small hug, before handing her over to Joey.
25-year-old Joey:
I´m sure that her parents will be very appreciative too.
25-year-old Pacey:
You can tell them from me that anytime Emily wants to come back and say hi, she´s more than welcome to.
25-year-old Joey:
You know, Pacey. I´ve been thinking about us moving in together and I think, we should go for it.
He looks pleased.
25-year-old Pacey:
If we do this, then I want to be sure that you really mean it this time, when it comes to giving us a chance. Because, if you leave me high and dry again, like you did last time ...
25-year-old Joey:
You mean, like you did with me the first time, we tried dating? We´re both one and one, when it comes to our break-up´s.
25-year-old Pacey:
You know what I mean. I already know that I´m not going anywhere, so the only question is whether you are.
25-year-old Joey:
Pacey, if this is where you´ll be, then it´s where I´ll be. You´re not getting rid of me this time, no matter what happens in our future. I promise you that from the bottom of my heart.
They smile at each other.
37. Int. Hospital Waiting Room. Day.
We´re back in the present with Pacey and the others.
Andie:
You weren´t the tiniest bit on the fence, Pacey, when it came to Audrey?
Pacey:
If anything, it was the moment that made me decide.
Dawson:
That Joey was the only one for you?
Pacey:
There´s no use denying it. I´m incurably in love with her for life.
A doctor comes in with a smile on his face. Pacey and the others stand up, to brace themselves for the news.
Doctor:
Mister Witter, how would like to meet your son?
Pacey starts crying happy tears, as his friends hug him.
Pacey:
I have a son?
The doctor nods and they follow after him.
38. Int. Hospital Room. Day.
A tired looking Joey smiles, as she´s holding her newborn son. Pacey and the others are let in and he rushes to her side.
Pacey:
Are you okay?
Joey:
Yeah, I´m fine. Just tired.
Audrey:
Congratulations, Joey.
Andie:
Have you decided, what you´re going to name him?
Pacey:
Well, we made an agreement that if it was a girl, we would name her after Jen.
Joey:
And if it was a boy, we would name him Dawson.
Dawson looks very honored.
Dawson:
I don´t know what to say.
Andie:
I think, all you have to say is that you´re okay with it!
Dawson:
Yes, of course, I am!
Pacey:
In that case, welcome to the world, Dawson Potter-Witter.
Joey:
May you live on for a long time and live to experience the kind of love, that brought you into it.
Our last shot is of the newborn baby, as he looks around at this strange new world, he finds himself in.
