Work Text:
Y/N took a look at her phone and sighed. No notifications. It was almost four in the morning and she had not heard from Chan since before lunch. She knew he hadn't gotten much sleep lately, and he asked her not to tell the boys. But they knew. The girl didn’t have to say anything, they just slowly got more observant of their leader’s health.
It was well known that Chan had a hard time sleeping, and eating properly, and just taking care of himself in general. So Y/N, being his best friend, always tried her best to help him with that.
But lately things have gotten worse. He would not rest or eat even when she messaged him, trying to remind him to do it. Chan said he was fine, that there was nothing wrong, but she just knew it was a lie. So, for Chan, her, the kids and all STAYs’ stake, she decided that she was gonna do her best to take care of him until whatever was happening passed.
She grabbed the bags of food she had asked for a couple minutes before, called an Uber and arrived at the company about twenty minutes later. The staff all knew her, so she just smiled and greeted them, and went straight to Chan’s studio.
She knocked first, and upon having no answer, Y/N went inside. She did had sent the boy a couple messages letting him know that she was coming over, but he didn’t see those either. Her bet was that he was so busy that he forgot about his phone completely.
The girl slowly opened the door and checked inside. Yep. His — very stiff — back was turned to her, but she could see the software he usually used to make music on the screen.
“Chan?” Y/N called softly. She didn’t want to startle him, since he didn’t know she was there.
No response, again. The girl sighed another time. She closed the door slowly, put the food on the table next to the refrigerator that was inside the studio and walked to the working boy.
“Chan?” She tried again, and this time he heard her and jumped on his chair.
“Y/N?” He looked at her, a bit confused. Her heart clenched with the sight. The bags under his eyes were huge, and he looked so fucking tired.
“Hi.” The girl opened a small smile to him.
“Hi.” He smiled back, still confused. “What are you doing here? It’s…” he checked the time on his computer and scrunched up his forehead “later than I thought.”
“Yeah.” Y/N smile got a bit lopsided. “You weren’t answering your phone, so I decided to come and check on you.”
“What? Did you message me?” His surprised answer made her chuckle. He grabbed his phone, saw dozens of messages from her and so many other people and winced. “Ops.” He looked at her with his puppy eyes. “Sorry?”
“It's fine.” She grinned and patted his soft curly brown locks. “But you should be more careful, don’t you think? When was the last time you had a break?”
“I need to finish this song first.” Chan answered while chewing his plump lip. “Can’t take a break now.”
“Nope. Wrong answer.” Y/N answered with a firm tone and the boy pouted.
“But Y/N-” He tried to argue, and she pulled his chair next to the table.
“I brought you food, and I will get angry if you don’t eat it while it’s hot.”
“I’m not hungry…” Was the argument he tried with a weak voice, which was instantly countered by his stomach growling. His ears turned pink at that.
“Not hungry, hm?” The girl smirked at him. “Seems like your body is more honest than you are.” Which made Chan blush even more.
“But I can’t eat now! I need to finish the song.” He tried again, still with a pout on his lips.
The girl lowered herself next to his face and stared into his eyes. That made him straight his back and stare back at her.
“Look, Chan, I’m worried about you. You have been locking yourself more and more inside the studio in the last few days. You know you can talk to me if there’s anything wrong, right?” Her honest words made Chan’s look get softer.
“Yeah.” He smiled shyly at her. “I know.”
“Good.” She smiled shyly back at him.
Her heart was beating way faster than she wanted it to, but she needed to let him know how serious she was about that. The proximity with her handsome best friend made her neck get hot, but at least she didn't blushed. Y/N didn’t confess to him, not yet, and she was trying to be as chill as possible until then.
“Now,” The girl said while turning his chair back to the table full of plastic bags filled with food “eat.”
❄
After a good half hour in which the girl made sure Chan ate as much as he could and kept him company at the table, she saw him getting up and moving towards his computer.
“Nu uh, none of that.” She sat on the sofa and patted the spot right next to her. “Come sit here. You need to rest more.”
“But-” He tried to argue again.
“Christopher,” The use of his full name made him tense up and look at Y/N. She had an almost fake smile on her lips. “If you don’t come sit next to me right now, I’m gonna get up and make you sit on my fucking lap.” Her voice was not angry, but was serious enough to make him know she was not joking.
The girl expected him to argue more, maybe complain and sit on his chair or anything similar to this, but what she got was a completely flustered Chan. His cheeks and ears were red as a tomato, and her heart skipped a couple beats at his cute reaction.
He knew full well that Y/N could not make him do anything. She was a bit taller than him, yes, but where he was all hard muscles, she was soft. No where near strong enough to make him sit on her lap if it came to it. And still, the answer he gave almost made her blush.
“Would that be so bad…?” His shy voice made her want to coo at him.
“What? You sitting on my lap?” He was looking down, but he still nodded at her question. “Of course not.” At the realization that he probably didn’t mean to really say that, she decided to ask something else to be sure they were on the same page. “Do you want to? Sit on my lap, I mean.”
He looked up, surprised, and hesitated a bit before answering with a frown.
“I’m too heavy for that.”
It was her turn to get surprised.
“What? Chan, you know that I’m not only taller, but heavier than you are, right?”
“You are not!” He tried to counter her, arms crossed.
“Yes, I am. I’m chubby, you know that, and me being taller only adds to the fact.” To that he got no argument. “Besides, I’m not weak, you know? You are definitely way stronger, but I’m not weak.”
Feeling he was still conflicted about it, Y/N got up, walked to him and grabbed his hand.
“Look at me, Channie.” His beautiful brown eyes looked at her face. “Is it because you’re a guy? You think guys can’t sit on girl’s laps?” His gaze turned from hers again.
“It’s weird.” The confliction on his voice hurt her heart a little bit.
“Says who?” Y/N made sure to ask as softly as she could, so the boy could feel she was not judging him.
“I don’t know.” He looked at her again. “Don’t you think it’s weird?”
“Not at all.” She gave him a small but bright smile and started to pull him towards the sofa.
He could have easily made her let go of his hand if he wanted to, so she knew he was letting her do it. She sat on the sofa first, then pulled his strong body and made him straddle her.
“There. Not heavy at all. I can barely feel you, to be honest.” She teased him and he chuckled.
“You sure?” His voice was tentative and his body was still tense, so Y/N hugged him.
“I’m sure, Chan.” That made him relax on her. “I like this too, you know?”
“You do?” The surprise on his voice as he pulled back from her hug to look at her face made her laugh.
“Yeah. Is it not obvious?”
“No. I thought you said that only to tease me.” She playfully rolled her eyes to that.
“Oh Christopher, you have no idea how much I love having you on my lap.”
“Y/N!” His face got bright red and he hid on her neck.
She laughed some more and hugged him again, feeling he was way more relaxed now. He returned the hug, and she kept one hand caressing his back while the other played with his curly brown locks.
After what felt like forever and not enough at the same time, he whispered to her.
“Thank you.” The emotion in his voice made her hug him a bit tighter.
“For what, Channie?” She asked with a soft smile.
“For taking care of me.”
“I’ll always take care of you.” Y/N answered, trying to put everything she felt for him in her voice. “Always.”
