Five

Summary:

Five times they tried to be friends

Chapter 1: Toronto (2 minutes in denial)

Chapter Text

It wasn’t really serious when it came up for the first time. It was a long day on set and nothing seemed to work according to plan. They were tired and annoyed with each other for no obvious reason and couldn’t say a line without missing their marks or moving in the wrong direction.

“If you stopped looking at me like that, we’d have finished three hours ago,” Dom yawned when they finally managed to wrap it for the day.

“I wouldn’t be looking at you if it hadn’t been in the script,” Matt snapped back as they were walking to the trailers.

It had been almost a year living ten different lives at a time. They were Jace and Alec, they were Dom and Matt, they were parabatai and best friends and something else. They had their own lives in different countries on opposite sides of the ocean like nothing had ever happened between them. They could travel together with Matt’s wife and Dom’s yet another girlfriend. But there was always something else, clung to their skin, clearly palpable under each other’s fingertips. And there were times when that something else got out of control.

“Maybe we should cut it out if we want to finish this show,” Dom said half-heartedly as he closed the trailer door behind them without realizing that if they wanted to stop this thing between them, they should have gone to separate trailers in the first place.

“Maybe,” Matt took off Alec’s leather jacket and started peeling the runes off his arms. “How about starting now?”

Dom pulled Jace’s T-shirt over his head and was doing the same thing.

“Being friends like normal people instead of what we have. You know, what must not be named.”

“Okay,” Matt answered briefly and removed the last rune from his neck - he didn’t have any shirtless scenes today, so there were just a few.

“Okay,” Dom echoed and turned trying to reach for his shoulder blade - unlike Matt he was covered with the whole set of Jace’s runes.

“Okay,” Matt repeated, took a couple of steps towards him and gently pushed his hand away.

Dom sighed exhaustedly and just waited for him to peel off all the runes he couldn’t reach, one by one, slow and careful. When Matt ran his hands over his shoulders, Dom was sure there were no runes to remove but he didn’t say a word. He just bit his lip to hold back a moan when Matt’s fingers squeezed the sore muscles, moving up to the back of his neck and into his hair.

“Maybe starting tomorrow,” he breathed out bending his head forward to give him a better access.

“Ask me tomorrow,” Matt whispered against his ear.

When Dom turned to look at him, he felt like all of his senses were concentrated on Matt, deaf and blind to everything else, responding only to the touch of his hands. He could only see his face, only hear his hot breathing… And a loud crack of a stele breaking in the back pocket of his jeans when he stumbled over the edge of the sofa and very ungraciously fell onto it.

“They’re gonna kill me,” Dom groaned as he felt the plastic snap under his weight.

“I’ll tell them it’s my fault,” Matt bent over him, his voice hoarse, his eyes wild.

“It is your fault,” Dom muttered under his breath, tugging helplessly at his long-sleeve shirt. “Everything is your fault.”

“I know,” Matt murmured almost soothingly, his lips somewhere against his collarbone. “I know…”
