Work Text:
"The safest hands are ours."- Steve says, epicly, and Tony imagines the American flag waving behind him.
Tony was exhausted, hadn't slept in two days, had to listen to the screams of the President of Nigeria because the Captain was too good to deal with politicians and the political fire he caused by going to Lagos illegally and causing many victims.
"Okay. So do it without me."
Tony would go home. No more putting out political fires, no more chasing after the Avengers, no more dealing with annoying politicians alone, no more paying for everything.
"Rhodey, let's go. I'm going to sleep and bye."
Tony was simply fed up and wasn't going to stress anymore in this tug of war where he was the rope that both sides pulled. Rogers wants to plant himself like a tree? Tony will be the chainsaw.
"I'm disabling the jet, canceling the credit cards and asking you to leave the equipment behind when you leave. Get your things and get out of my compound."
"You can not do that!" - Steve shouts, with righteous anger.
Tony raises an eyebrow.
"Why not? It's my money."
"We are the Avengers!"
"And? You are not my employee, you do not work for me. If it were, I would be legally screwed, as I would be responsible for the disaster you caused in Lagos."
Tony shrugged and headed towards the exit.
“I'm not responsible for you. They are not my children, nor my employees. If you want to 'plant yourself like a tree' so badly, do it with your money!"
"Where are we going to get money from?"
"Don't worry. You are Captain America. I'm sure another rich guy will come along to help you and your friends. Come on Rhodey."
"Tony, come back here!"
"Not my circus, not my monkeys. Not my money, not my problem. Bye Bye."
THE END
