Rainy Day

Summary:

You and Matt stay in on a rainy Sunday.

Work Text:

It was a Sunday, your favorite day of the week. You didn’t know if it was on purpose or more of a subconscious thing, but Matt always seemed to try and relax more on Sundays. He would run errands early so he could get back and enjoy as much of his day as he could with you.

Today, when he got back, it started to rain. It was a gentle shower that pushed people inside their homes. It was the kind that urged you to stay in bed and do nothing all day. Matt had a smile on his face, his clothes splattered by the first few layers of rain that had fallen from the sky before he could get inside.

He took a moment to lean his cane against the wall before focusing on the soft sound of your breathing in the next room. The sound was smooth and slow, indicating that you were still asleep. Matt paused to take off his jacket, throwing it over the back of one of the armchairs in the living room.

He grabbed one of your candles from the coffee table before walking to the bedroom. He rummaged for a lighter in the drawer of his nightstand before resting the now-lit candle on top. It was unscented, or as close as it could get to unscented for Matt. He changed clothes, opting for something much more comfortable. As he zipped up his blue hoodie over his t-shirt, he could hear a small click and registered a faint burning smell as the heat came on. It was already a bit chilly outside and the rain only made it more so. All the more reason to stay in bed for the day.

Matt got under the covers, pulling you close and curling around you, doing his best not to wake you. He slipped his hands up the back of your shirt, reveling in the warmth that your body provided. Soon, he could feel sleep pulling him back under, his nose buried into your neck.

When you woke it was still raining, you smiled at the way Matt had tangled his body with yours. You noticed the lit candle and pressed a kiss to his forehead, feeling a loving warmth fill your chest. You felt Matt nuzzle into you in his sleep and you bit your lip. He looked utterly adorable, his hair mussed, his cheeks and ears were flushed red. He was completely relaxed save for his fingers occasionally shifting against your back like he was trying to make sure you were still there.

You listened to the low rumble of rain going over the roof. Every tap and patter joined together to form a low, soothing hum that echoed ever so slightly in the high ceiling of Matt’s apartment. The wind shifted and rain hit the windows, the low hum turning into a rattle momentarily until the wind changed again. Your eyes felt heavy just listening to it and you couldn’t find it in you to get out of bed. You didn’t want to wake Matt, anyways.

Matt slowly pulled away from you after his eyes opened again. It was a battle of will, the warmth of the bed wrapping greedily around him and trying to hold him down. He knew you’d be hungry when you woke, though, and he also knew you two couldn’t actually stay in bed all day.

In a bit of a haze, Matt fumbled for his watch, feeling surprised when it read close to noon. He knew he had fallen back asleep but he didn’t think it would be for so long. He went to the kitchen to make breakfast, ignoring the lapse in time. He waited until he was almost done to put on coffee, knowing that would wake you almost instantly.

As soon as the smell had fully filled the room you walked through the sliding door. Matt smiled at you, bringing you food to eat at his makeshift dining table. When you finished, Matt grabbed your chair and slid you closer before pulling your legs into his lap. Seemingly unsatisfied with this, he then pulled you all the way into his lap and you wrapped around him, laughing against his skin at his attempts to get you as close as possible despite the effort.

Matt started pressing feather-light kisses to your shoulder and neck. Your laughter got louder at the feeling, his skin ghosting over yours. Matt pulled back to reveal a grin, his head tilting before pressing a kiss to your lips. He pulled you up and to the bedroom. You squeaked when he dropped you on the mattress before gasping at him.

“Matt!”

He just laughed at you while discarding his hoodie. He plopped on top of you, squeezing you tightly as he gently bit into your neck. You wriggled underneath him to escape the full weight of his body but he pinned you.

“Matt, stop,” you laughed, fruitlessly tugging against his grip.

“No,” he mumbled against you. You rolled your eyes, unable to wipe the smile from your face. You pinched what skin you could reach of his and he bit you in return. You were still able to maneuver one hand free and immediately took advantage by digging your fingers into his side.

Matt recoiled from you, grabbing at your wrist but not quite quick enough. You continued until he was laughing, rolling to his side in defeat. His body curled around itself in an attempt to shield from your touch, his hands reaching out to grab at you. You yelped when he found your ribs, pulling away from him instinctively.

Then, he was on top of you again, pinning you and tickling until tears pricked in your eyes. “Matt, please, please.” You attempted to twist away from him, gasping between laughs. You wriggled beneath him, rolling to one side and using your body weight to drag him with you. He suddenly let go of you and you screamed when your tactic backfired, launching you halfway off the bed.

Matt grabbed you around your waist, his body shaking with laughter as you attempted to get up. “Matt, help.

He buried his face into you, unable to contain his laughter. “You…oh my God, you….” He started laughing again, giving up on words. Unfortunately, you couldn’t act annoyed for long, his happiness wildly contagious.

You let your body go slack, your attempts to get back on the bed abandoned. You gasped when you felt his grip loosening on you. “Matt, don’t you dare—”

He let go and you wrapped your legs around his torso, pulling him down to the floor with you. He caught your head before it could hit the hard floor. He curled around you, pulling you into his chest. You both lay there, catching your breath. Your body was getting goosebumps from the chill of the unforgiving wood.

Matt sat up, pulling you with him. His lips found yours, his arms tight around you. His intensity stole your breath, a soft moan escaping you as his tongue locked with yours. He sighed at the feeling, pulling your legs to wrap around his waist.

He pulled away before you wanted him to and you whined in protest but he just shook his head. Matt’s nose nuzzled against your neck before he pressed kisses down to your collarbone. He smiled at the way your heart sped up.

“I love you,” he said against your skin. He loved the feeling of your skin, so soft and intoxicating. He’d hold you like this for as long as you’d let him.

“I love you, too.”

Matt tilted his head up, revealing his smile before he kissed your forehead.

“You’re so perfect, you know that? You make me so fucking happy.”

Your body felt warm at his words, your brain struggling to form a reply. Matt didn’t need one, your body against his was enough. He rubbed circles into your lower back, memorizing each imperfection. His lips brushed against your collarbone as he rested his head into the crook of your neck.

For a while you both just stayed like that, your bodies melted together. You both listened to the low hum of the rain. There was occasionally a rumble of thunder. Matt’s hands wandered, teasing you a bit but not enough for you to say anything. You slipped one hand under his shirt, splaying your fingers across his stomach before going up to his chest, over his heart.

Matt pulled back to tug his shirt over his head before he resumed his previous position. He let his eyes close, the feeling of your hand on his chest burning into him. Your other hand rested on his bicep, smiling when you could feel his muscles tense as his hands roamed over you. He would smile when he felt your pulse pick up.

His lips pressed into your skin as he leaned up, sending a tiny chill through you. His grip tightened against your sides, a lazy smile on his lips.

“You wanna get back in bed?” he asked, his touch starting to ghost further up your back. You couldn’t contain your grin.

“I thought you’d never ask.”
