A black G-wagon pulls into an icy driveway. The surrounding area is full of pine trees covered in blankets of snow. The passenger door opens as knee-high red boots hit the ground. Kory steps out of the vehicle taking a sniff of the cold air. She breaks out into a stretch and yawns from the long drive.
“What are you tired of, I’m the one who drove the whole way?” Dick said with a slight annoyance.
“Hey, I volunteered to drive, you just didn’t want to let go of that ego of yours.” Kory tilted her head, giving Dick a raised eyebrow.
“It’s called being polite.”
Dick shut the car door while not taking his gaze off of Kory.
“Yea, let’s just call it that.”
Kory looked back at the other car pulling up behind them. Rachel steps out of the car almost slipping on the ice. She folds her arms as she walks up to Kory.
“It’s freezing out here.” Her mouth shivered, barely able to get the words out.
“Dick and I told you to wear a bigger coat.” Kory added.
Rachel's arms remained folded. Her icy breath escaped her mouth.
Dick grabs him and Kory’s bags out of the trunk before walking up to Kory and Rachel.
“Multiple times actually.”
Rachel rolls her eyes. “Okay I get it!”
Dick laughs as he starts to walk towards the cabin.
“Can I ride back with you guys?” Rachel asked with concern.
Kory looked back at Rachel. “Were the boys getting on your nerves?”
“We listened to nature radio the entire way here.”
Gar walks up to Rachel and Kory with his bag in his hand. “We asked if you wanted to change it and you specifically said that you didn’t mind.”
Rachel slightly pushed Gar. “I wasn’t about to argue with a car full of boys.”
Kory smiles at the two bickering over nothing. She glances at Gar’s green and red santa hat.
“Nice hat, Gar”
Gar lets out a huge smile. He didn’t think anyone would notice his hat.
“Thanks Kory, I have one for you too, do you want me to get it for you?”
“Sure, let me see it!” Kory’s smile got bigger.
Tim stepped out of the car holding his arms. “Good god it's chilly out here!” He cried out.
“Careful Tim, you’re going to slip.” Conner put his hand out to Tim in caution.
“Conner, did you get everything?” Kory shouts to him.
Tim walks up to Gar and Rachel, putting his arm on Gar’s shoulder. He looks around taking in the view.
“This is so cool. Do you guys usually go on vacations like this?”
“No, we just go to places like Gotham.” Rachel said with a smart tone.
Tim put his hand on his chest, hurt by the statement. “Hey!?”
Gar motioned his hand across his neck to Rachel before saying something to break the silence.
“This is actually our first time going on a vacation like this.”
“Yes, in the middle of nowhere, no people, no criminals, just us and nature.” Kory said as she looked around the area.
Conner walks up behind Tim holding the rest of the bags. Dick walks out of the front door of the cabin letting out a big sigh after seeing everyone still by the cars.
“If you guys wanted to stand outside then I wouldn’t have rented the damn cabin.”
The group turns around, all of their faces reacting to Dick’s statement. They start to walk towards the cabin. Tim takes one step before slipping on the ice but Conner stops him from falling by nonchalantly placing his hand on his back. Conner glances at Tim before walking away.
Dick walks through the front door walking into a cozy living room equipped with a fireplace, a giant sectional sofa, and lots of fluffy blankets. Everyone follows behind him.
“Welcome to paradise or whatever you want to call it. Complete with 4 bedrooms and all the amenities you could ask for.”
Tim and Gar walk off to look at the nearby kitchen. Conner drops the bags on the ground before heading towards the sofa to lay down. He’d never had to drive that far before and he was tired.
“Uh huh, yea. four bedrooms? There’s six of us. How is that working?” Kory raises her head in question while putting her hand in her back pockets.
“Simple. Rachel and Conner get their own rooms, You and Me in the master, and Gar and Tim can share a room.”
Dick looks around to see if anyone was in disagreement with his solution. Conner didn’t pick his head up from the couch, Rachel nodded her head, and Tim and Gar smiled as they gave each other a high five. Kory sees that no one has a problem with the plan so she shakes her head in agreement.
“Alright then, I guess that’s the plan.”
4 hours later
Gar, Tim, and Rachel sit around the room playing Uno. Conner dives face first into Gar’s bed. He goes completely still as soon as he hits the bed. It seemed the surrounding ambience of the others screaming at their game helped him drift off.
“Draw 4 Tim.” Rachel dropped her card down on the table while giving Tim a conceited look. Tim rolled his eyes unamused. “At this point I’m not even gonna get close to Uno.” “That’s the point genius.” Gar said with a smirk.
Gar pauses in his tracks after hearing a weird noise. “What is that?”
“What is what?” Tim also pauses mid draw.
Gar springs up from his seat and runs over to the nearest window.
“I think I hear a bear!”
Tim’s face lights up in excitement as he gets up.
“Um, guys.” Rachel attempts to get the two’s attention but their excitement drowns out her voice.
“Where is it?” Gar and Tim fight for space at the window trying to look for the bear.
Rachel rolls her eyes in annoyance as the two continuously ignore her.
“Hey doofuses, it's not a bear. It’s just Conner snoring.”
Gar and Tim’s face light up more than it did before. They couldn’t believe Conner was making a noise like that.
“No way!” Tim quietly said scared to wake him.
Gar smiles looking at how peaceful Conner looked. “You know for someone so grumpy, he sleeps like a cute little baby.”
Tim nods his head in agreement.
Downstairs, Dick hangs around the kitchen. He picks up a bowl of grapes and walks over to the kitchen counter where he begins to eat them. His eyes go up as he sees Kory walking down the stairs and into the kitchen, his gaze not leaving her.
Kory walks up to the other side of the counter, her face impressed with her surroundings, “This place is so relaxing.”
Dick rarely sees Kory smile this much. It brought a warm feeling to his heart, a feeling he thought he would never feel again. He didn’t even notice that he never stopped staring.
“Um, Dick?”
He snapped out of his trance, his mouth raising into a smirk. He turns around to the sink so that he doesn’t make the mistake again. “Glad you like it. It was expensive.”
Kory pressed her fist onto her cheek as she leaned onto the counter. Her eyes fixated on Dick, she knew he couldn’t keep his composure once she came around and she loved that. She wanted to test him more so she breaks the silence, “Everyone else is upstairs playing games, so what’s the plan for us?”
Dick sits at the sink, still looking forward. He closes his eyes as he hears Kory’s soft voice. He’s been waiting for her to ask something like this. He turns to her with a suggestion, “How about a movie?”
Kory fixes her posture, taken back by the response. “A movie?”
“Yes, we can watch Home Alone, it's a Christmas classic in Wayne Manor.”
Kory’s face dropped into confusion. “What’s Home Alone?”
Dick’s stops in his tracks and stares at Kory in shock. “Home Alone? Only the best Christmas movie ever!”
Kory remains confused however she changes her face to look more interested. “A movie would be nice.”
Dick’s eyes light up at her answer. Kory had never seen him this happy before. It brought a cozy feeling to her. They both exchange smiles before Dick’s attention is switched.
“Where did all these Gingerbread houses come from?”
Kory walks over to the boxes. “Gar bought them, something about a family contest he wants to do tomorrow.”
“I don’t do contests, so I’ll be watching you guys.” Dick’s start to walk away from the gingerbread houses.
Kory shifted her body towards Dick. “Um, yes you are, Gar wants us all to participate.”
“We’ll see about it.”
“Yes, we will.”
