Work Text:
The world is too noisy. Harry tries to seclude himself in the empty space of his apartment, but people always decide to barge in. He's always dragged around. Always demanded, always asked of something. It's like his life isn't his own. His only solace that takes place in the world is film. But even that oasis has run dry. Just legos and piano can keep him occupied on his own. There's only one person he's come to tolerate. As much as he hates the thought. As much as he hates how often they pop into his mind. A familiar ringtone plays, echoing through the spacious yet empty room.
"Why'd you call me."
"Harry! Guess what just happened."
"No."
"Ugh. Okay fine."
They're almost like a puppy. Glued to his figurative side. But at the same time, they're not like Big Guy.
"And then when I finally got it out of the ground, the carrot was huge! It made me think of you. I thought, wow, Harry could probably eat this over a few days."
"What? Do you plan to send me the carrot?"
"Hmm if you want me to!"
"No need. I can get plenty that are probably bigger and higher quality than what you grew."
"Rude~! So what are you doing?"
"...Lego."
"Lego! Awesome. Are you building anything in particular?"
"No. I'm taking a break from the scale model."
"Hmm~ that's good. Spending too much time on one thing can make it draining to work on. How's it looking right now?"
"The model? Or what I'm doing now."
"Both."
"...Not much progress since I last showed you. And this…I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"I'm just building off intuition. It probably won't turn out good. No point in worrying about how it's going."
"I see."
"Is that all?"
"Uhhh I guess. Should I leave you be?"
"No. You're fine."
"Mm~ you wanna keep talking about nothing?"
"No."
"...Just coexist? Parallel play?"
"...What are you going on about?"
"Never mind. Are you gonna keep building?"
"Yeah."
"Alrighty. I'll get working on my project again then."
He listens to their papers sliding across their table and supplies being set down. He continues building. They both get lost in their own activities, occasionally being reminded of the other's presence through sighs, loudly censored curses, and pens falling on the floor. Neither has any desire to end the call, nor to strike conversation. It's a moment of peace in Harry's otherwise burdensome life.
