It was quiet in your mind. Apart from a loud ringing in your ears and distant gunfire there seemed to be nothing. As if you were floating in water you flew, the wind gently blowing over your skin as your eyes closed. It was almost enjoyable, almost too good to give in until a bang shot you back into reality and your back was met with the cold hard floor.
Groaning you turned onto your stomach wanting to get up, being held back by a force on your back kicking you down. This was no bomb, no bullet, but a foot. Knowing what to do you grabbed the blade from your belt and swiftly turned around, swinging at everything near enough to be hit. Not enough to kill was stuck and a hand on your wrist held you back from moving more. The soldier above you grinned deviously, managing to grab the blade from your weakened hands as he crouched down.
"Scared?" He smiled and laughed, exposing his teeth, they were white and clearly well taken care of. Without hesitation, you spat in his face, giving him the same smile back, exposing your teeth, yellow and lacking the proper attention.
He was less hesitant than you, putting the knife to your throat, for a second you swallowed, fearing this might actually be the end before a figure appeared behind him and something red glowed. Your eyes widened as you ducked your head to the right.
To avoid going blind you closed your eyes and only opened them when you felt a body drop onto yours, it was heavy, clearly well-fed.
"You alright mate?" Kano spoke, his accent ever so present. He helped you stand up again but let go before you were back on your feet, making you stumble slightly. He pat your shoulder and punched an upcoming soldier to the ground. You quickly grabbed the knife back from the now corpse of the soldier and gave Kano a head nod implying he could go his own way and leave you be.
The rest of the fight wasn't long-lasting, with only a few soldiers in your way all of you quickly realized it was just your people left. The room was filled with heavy breathing and remaining grunts from the soldiers clinging on to their last moments of life.
"Clean 'em up, finish the living, carry the filth out" Kano yelled, clear and loud for everyone to hear, pointing at some of the corpses of soldiers spread on the floor., walking over them "Help the wounded, carry the dead to the fighting rink, we'll bury them later." He followed up, pointing at his own people already helping others up and carrying out corpses of their fallen friends.
You bent down to one of the dead soldiers, wiping your blade on their pants. It was a synthetic fabric and not much actually washed off but it would be enough for the blade to be put back in the holder without the blood being too much to wash off later.
"Still alright?" He laughed, hand on your shoulder. You nodded and gave him a smile. Much to your surprise, he turned to you with concern plastered on his face.
His hand went from your neck to your chin, lifting your head up slightly as he scoffed angrily.
"Bastard got you." He grunted as he softly wiped his thumb over a now stinging wound on your neck. You winced and grabbed his wrist, pulling his hand away.
"Not deep enough for you to bleed out," He tilted his head and took a good look at your now newly discovered wound. "Too big to leave alone, come." Without warning, he pulled you aside, away from the struggling bodies of the enemy and the stench of blood, sweat, and whatever else murder smelled like.
Away from the foul smell, you were instructed to sit on a table, somewhere in an unknown room. It was lit by just a flickering bulb on the ceiling, hanging by a single wire.
"Wait here," He said as he further soundlessly left the room.
The light bulb was making a slight buzzing sound and it drilled into your head which started to feel fuzzy. Maybe it was the loss of blood as it was still a lot, you hadn't noticed before but your shirt was soaked and so was your right pant leg. It was cold but still warm as it flowed from your neck. Not fast by any means but if it wasn't taken care of soon it would lead to some damage. A scar was certain.
You sighed, every attack would always leave you scarred, visibly.
Not long after Kano came in, surprisingly silent for his being. He had what seemed to be a first aid kit, or at least a box with a big red cross on it.
"So, what happened?" He started, unwrapping some gauze and grabbing the frustratingly small scissors.
"Sudden attack, came in through the front door-"
"I meant what happened to you?"
"Oh," You still had to get used to Kano caring about you, you had been together for a while now but he was still hesitant to show he cared. You knew it was a way for him to feel more powerful, like he wouldn't be completely broken if something happened to you he didn't have control over.
"Doesn't matter- ah," You winced as kano poured some liquid onto your neck, by the smell of it something disinfecting. It joined the blood on your collar, soaked into your shirt. That couldn't be washed out later.
Kano simply huffed in response, clearly disagreeing on whether it mattered on not. He further cleaned the wound and put bandages on it to avoid the blood from further leaking, wrapping gauze around it to keep the bandages secure.
"Whatever, got the bastard anyways, fucker." he muttered under his breath.
A slight smile appeared on your face, contrasting with Kano's expression and the whole situation for that matter.
"You sure you're-" Before Kano could finish his sentence you had grabbed his shoulders and pulled him in for a hug. There was hesitation from his side but soon a hand wound its way on your back and you felt him relax and put his entire upper body weight onto you. His arms wrapped around you and soon you found yourself in a strangling hug so tight you thought the bandages were gonna pop right off and you'd bleed to death anyways.
Kano pulled away, now bloody and blushing, the slightest of smiles on his lips.
There was a silence, anything but awkward. It was comfortable like before, enjoyable and you felt like you were floating again. Kano's breath was the wind on your skin and there was no bang that shot you back into reality so you gave in. Letting the moment take control over you you slowly leaned into kano asking for permission which he didn't hesitate to give. He kissed you softly, his facial hair tickling your skin making you laugh. You had jokingly asked him to shave it once and you never dared to ask him again when he walked in the next day completely bald, body hair included.
You laughed at the memory and pulled away for air, not wanting to have to breathe in too hard because of your neck. The hand on your neck pulled you forward and a pair of lips connected with your forehead.
With a single purse of them, they pulled away again, leaving a wet spot on your forehead.
"You dare bleed again on my watch you're going in the cage with me." He joked with a chuckle, although you sensed a hint of seriousness. A fight with Kano which you would no doubt lose wasn't something you were looking forward to. You nodded in response and felt your head being pulled onto Kano's chest. It collided with the leather strap of his heart and you sighed.
You closed your eyes and just let yourself enjoy this moment of vulnerability from Kano. It was pure bliss being loved by him.
