Chapter Text

The Devil hobbled back up to the casino, well, what was left of it, grumbling under his breath about a certain two cups that had just recently beat him. He had no idea what he was going to do now, but he thought that he may as well check the damage and the possible casualties this whole ordeal had caused.

What he didn’t expect was to see a certain purple Die in a pool of his own blood on the casino floor.

‘Looks like you’ll finally get my soul after all.’ King Dice said with a slight smile, his voice strained and quiet as his body lay broken against the legs of a flipped over table.

‘Dice…’ The Devil whispered as he slowly approached, kneeling down next to him and hesitantly cupping his face as a tear rolled out the corner of his eye.

His right hand man swallowed hard, his hand twitching for a moment as it lay against a wound on his stomach, now too weak to apply any kind of pressure. He was covered in blood. It spilled out of his mouth as he spoke, it came out of gashes on his upper arms, and of course, it poured out of bullet wounds on his torso. The Devil glanced down, noticing the deeper wounds and pressing his much larger hand against them, in an attempt to stop the inevitable.

‘Im sorry for being… a good-for-nothing lackey.’ His voice was barely audible, the smile now gone, and more tears mingled with the blood spattering his face. He then seemed to sob but it came out choked as blood and fluid continued to fill his lungs.

‘You ain’t good-for-nothing.’ The Devil replied, his voice a lot softer than it had ever been for years. ‘You’re my right hand man. There ain’t anyone in this world I’d rather have at my side-‘

‘But… I couldn’t stop two kids-’ he stated with a gasping breath.

‘Neither could I.’

And the Devil was right- he wasn’t nearly as injured as King Dice, but his right hand was shattered, his head was gashed and his horn was snapped off, to name a few. The two boys had really done a number on him, but he wasn’t in a mortal body. King Dice was.

The die seemed to softly whine as he felt his body getting weaker, the life slipping away from him, his breathing becoming more laboured and his eyes drooping further. 'Thank you.. for everything you have done for me…’ King Dice mumbled, stopping to take a painful breath between words. ‘It’s been an honour to serve you..’

‘You’re talking as if we ain’t going to see each other again- your soul is always going to be with me. You ain’t getting away that easily.’ The Devil grinned as more of the die’s blood seeped through his fingers that were pressing onto his torso.

‘But.. what good am I without my body..?’ He said, sorrow laden in his tone. ‘How can I dance… how can I sing… how can I rebuild this place…? How can I be of use to you once I’m dead..?’ He coughed weakly, more blood spattering down his face and clothes.

The demon then leaned in, getting but a few inches away from his right hand man’s face, his voice low and quiet.

‘You forget, Dice… the terms of your contract- your servitude to me- if you are to die before the contract is up, I can choose what is to be done with your physical body.’ He explained and King Dice’s mouth twitched into a little smile and he managed a chuckle.

‘I... I should have read the fine print, huh?’ He looked into the Devil’s deep red eyes, before his smile abruptly fell and he choked out a strained whimper, death finally creeping up on him, his body tensing.

He kept looking into the Devil’s eyes, his breathing becoming erratic and his expression gaining a hint of fear in his death throes. The Devil kept smiling, lifting his bloody hand from Dice’s stomach to cup his face once again, whispering a phrase as he took his last few breaths.

‘You will come back.’ King Dice inhaled once more. ‘My Dice...'

'My King.’ Then he exhaled.

Then all was still in what was left of the Devil’s casino.
