The snow was coming down surprisingly hard outside the windows of the apartment Kirigaya Kazuto and his fiancé Eugeo, but the recently engaged couple were nice and warm inside as they decorated the place for the holidays.
“It was nice of everyone to pitch in and give us so many decorations for the apartment,” Eugeo said with a bright and soft smile.
The only response he got was Kirito grunting his approval before the black swordsman went back to humming along with “Winter Wonderland” as he finished hanging the lights around the window that led from the kitchen to the dining room.
“Allll…DONE!!! That’s the dining room and kitchen all decorated for the holidays, you almost done with the living room?” Kirito asked Eugeo.
“Just finished!” the blonde replied, wiping some sweat off of his brow, “that’s all the rooms decorated so all that’s left is the Christmas Tree.”
“I’ll go get the tree from the office and get it set up.” The black-haired man informed his lover, coming back a few minutes later with the large box holding the faux tree Asuna had gotten them.
“I knew Asuna went all out with the tree, but this is kind of ridiculous.” Eugeo half shouted once Kirito had finished putting the tree up.
It was MASSIVE (hell it was just shy of touching the ceiling), had bright LED lights in the style of the old, large bulbs that used to be all the rage that could switch between white and colored, fake snow dusting on the branches, and to top it all off, just a hint of glitter on top of the snow.
“I told her we didn’t need anything flashy like this and to stick with the basics, but it looks like she didn’t get that part.” Kirito sighed as he grabbed the box of Christmas ornaments from the closet, “At least we don’t have to worry about stringing the lights on it.”
“I was kind of looking forward to it though.” Eugeo said with a pout, “Thank god the ornaments weren’t hung up already.”
“Even I would have been impressed if they managed to get all the ornaments on the tree before they boxed it up and sent it to the store.” Kirito joked, grabbing the first ornament, a scale replica of their Underworld Swords crossed together with a wreath around them.
“Hey, that’s the ornament we had custom ordered while we were in Hokkaido!” Eugeo shouted, a look of wonder on his face.
“It came in the mail yesterday and I figured it would be the best ‘first ornament’ to hang up.” Kirito stated, letting his fiancé hold the item, “Go ahead and hang it up! This is your first Christmas after all.”
“Thanks, Kirito!”
As they continued hanging the ornaments, Eugeo started reminiscing about when his task in the Underworld was to cut down the Black Cedar Tree and realized how ironic it was that he was working with cedar again, even if it was a fake tree. But that was quickly replaced with the realization that if it weren’t for the damn tree, he and Kirito wouldn’t have met each other, actually cut the behemoth down, traveled together across the Underworld, and eventually become engaged. This caused the blonde to tear up and start shedding small tears of joy, that he hoped Kirito wouldn’t notice.
Much to his dismay, the Black Swordsman did notice the tears and asked his lover,
“Why are you crying?”
“Oh, I just realized that it's Cedar Trees that brought us together.”
“…So…you could say that I’m your Christmas miracle…?”
Eugeo looked at this future husband and saw the massive smirk he had, and even though he knew Kirito was just teasing him, he laughed and put the ornament he was holding up on the tree before looking Kirito in the eyes and replying,
“Yes…you’re my miracle…My Hero.”
Kirito couldn’t take how cute Eugeo was being, quickly closed the gap between them, and pulled the blonde in for a deep, passionate kiss, catching his sweetheart by surprise, before he returned the kiss with equal love.
They held one another for what felt like an eternity, before they went, “SCREW IT!!!”, took off their clothes until they were wearing nothing but boxer briefs, finished decorating the tree with rapid speed, quickly made some Hot Cocoa and snuggled up with one another on the couch, with a nice warm blanket protecting them from the colder air in the apartment.
“Merry Christmas Eugeo, my prince,” Kirito whispered to his soon-to-be husband.
“Merry Christmas Kirito, my knight,” Eugeo whispered back with a soft smile, before taking a sip of his Hot Cocoa and turning the TV on so they could watch whatever Christmas special was on.
They fell asleep like that and at the Christmas Party Agil was hosting the next day, they came dressed up in adorable costumes. Kirito being Santa-Chan and Eugeo being one of his Reindeer, complete with miniature, faux snowmen of him and Kirito. The picture Suguha took of them at the Photobooth quickly became their Christmas Card and they spent the rest of the year being the happiest they had ever been.
