Chapter Text
You meet your first soulmate in a wedding. The wedding's nice, bright lighting and the bride blushing as she walks down the aisle. Your eyes trail the bride's smile as she grins with tears in the corner of her eyes, happy. Accepting. It's your sister's wedding and yet you stand in a corner, hushed as you sip something tangerine out of your glass.
Your first soulmate is nothing special. He accidentally spills some wine on your dress and then apologies profusely, his hands making rapid movements in an attempt to say sorry. "It kinda looks nice, like abstract art." You say, checking out the splash of red on your dress.
His eyes widen like the full moon. Smiling brightly he asks you out and you oblige. Not surprised gasps from you or any sort of sign for that matter. Almost as if you knew.
The first date goes well. He ends up at your home, drunk and smiling as he shows you his forearm, telling you how incredible you are, existing for him. You show him yours. Your bare back. He stills, quiet and tense.
It's scribbled in letters and words incoherent and unintelligible. Words and letters piled over and over each other until it represents a cacophony of language. He leaves when he understands that while he is yours, you can never be his.
The process repeats itself with most of your soulmates, they discover, they rejoice and they leave. At least you try to let them off gently.
You attend another wedding this time. It's bigger than the last and perhaps in a good way, much more cheerful. This time it's Kaminari Denki who gets married. You've known him for a long time having grown up beside him next door. A nice, honest kid with a bit of a scatterbrain. The bride looks flushed, happy while she cradles his face and pulls him for a kiss. You don't wallow in a corner this time, cheering to Denki and conversing with many of his friends. It feels good, the company of friends, you think.
"And then Denki goes dumb, and faints when Jirou proposes on one knee" Mina cackles and you chortle along with her until you notice someone not quite participating in the conversation.
Katsuki Bakugo or pro hero Ground Hero, you've heard him more often as. You want to avoid him given, his known volatile temper but something pulls you to him and you find yourself standing next to him holding a drink in hand and offering him one in another. He glared at you, his eyebrows twisting. You don't waver and just shrug your shoulders as he says nothing when you settle next to him. Eyes trailing over his features, you observe him like a hawk, the curve of his lower lip the perpetual glare in eyes as he watches everything, the way his blonde tufts of hair jut out perfectly like there's order in chaos. You can't explain the almost non existent magnetic pull you can feel but not see.
"What you staring for?" He grunts with a sneer and you are broken out of your reverie.
The words spill out of your mouth lighter than air itself.
"You are heartbreakingly beautiful."
He looks surprised for a split second before he continues to people watch, the only response being a huff of breath. Not one of yours, you figure. However, the weird feeling inside you doesn't settle. You almost wish he was yours.
You go home, short of breath that night, clawing at your throat for air. Something inside you feels terribly wrong being away from him. Punishment, you accept it as, believing it to be retribution for all the names etched in your back.
You receive a new message the next morning, scrolling past the tons of messages of saying ' I hate you, I'm better now, I'm sorry.'
Unknown number
:Oi , weirdo from the wedding. Meet me at the afternoon in the agency.
It's him, says your gut. "Okay" you type back.
