Work Text:

There he was, standing in front of you. Shadows following him like they were part of his cape, looking you straight into the eye with a slight smile.

That smile had once made your knees weak and mind fussy. But now it just disgusted you. You were disgusted by the fact that you had once touched that man.

"My love," he muttered, and you took a step back. "I finally found you."

"I wish you didn't." you muttered, and he blinked at you.

"What do you mean?" he asked and you shot him a look full of hate.

"Do you think you could just magically waltz back into my life after everything you did?" you whispered, your voice barely being audible at the back alley. To him, however, your voice was loud and clear, carried over by the venom within your tone.

"I expect you to understand. They have looked down at us for centuries."

"No, I do not understand," you growled as you clenched your fists. "You betrayed me."

"Betrayed you?" he raised his eyebrows slightly. "I did what's the best for our kind."

You scoffed. "By slaughtering thousands of innocent people."

"They did the same for us."

"And that justifies it?"

He didn't reply, but you could see he was getting frustrated. His hands twitched slightly and you could see his jaw clench.

You took in a deep sigh, knowing perfectly well that you couldn't fight him, not alone. So you made your move to turn around and make him see that you weren't tangled in his web anymore.

"If you turn now, you're making us enemies!" he bellowed, his voice echoing through the walls of all the houses surrounding you. You turned around, taking one last look at the man who you once loved, who you would have given your life for if requested. But he wasn't that man. He had manipulated you into believing he was that man. So you swallowed, before saying three last words to him, sealing the final end of your relationship.

"So be it."
