Poker Face

Summary:

You're Jesper's helping hand when he's gambling. Based on Poker Face by Lady Gaga.

Work Text:

"Mr. Smitt?" the dealer started going through hands and the man in question smiled widely as he laid down his hand, visibly believing he's going to win the game. "Full house," the dealer said and all eyes turned to Jesper.

Jesper smirked, laying down a five of a kind. "Check this hand, because I'm marvelous."

The dealer looked like his eyes were about to pop out for the second time tonight, as Jesper had gotten five of a kind hand two times in a row now, which was a huge kick of luck. Disapproving groans were heard all around the table as Jesper collected the money, laying a smirk your way.

Jesper was known for his gambling problem all around Ketterdam, and he could easily be lured to yet another gambling table. But when he began to date you, it was his best life choice - you were his secret card. He always won with you by his side.

You switched your secret languages a lot. For one time, a tap on the table, meant bet. A cough, pass. Leaning back, bluff. Sometimes you put on a disguise. Nobody ever knew. It was cheating, sure, and it wasn't as exciting for Jesper as it was when he played fair, but he lost all his money in gambling because he played against people who were much more skilled than him, and you had made him a deal - if you could help him in tricky situations, he could continue gambling.

Now you were coming from your third game for the evening, Jesper's arm slung around your shoulders and a heavy pouch of coins in your hands. He pressed a big smooch on your temple as you smirked, peeking inside the pouch.

"What would I do without you?" he asked, grinning widely as he looked into your eyes.

"You'd be absolutely screwed," you chuckled and pushed the pouch back in Jesper's hands. "Enough for the day, now to sleep. And tomorrow we're resting like you promised."

Jesper groaned, retreating his hand from your shoulders. "Aw, you're no fun!"

You rolled your eyes. "I have to keep you in check somehow. And besides, three tables in a day is too much anyway, soon they'll know that you're cheating."

"I'm not cheating! At least, not always cheating..."

You couldn't keep in a laugh. "And when you win fair, you want to take another round which would lead to you losing all your money you just won, but it doesn't happen because of my help. Don't you think they find it a bit odd how your luck magically turns around when it very much looks like you'll lose?"

Jesper frowned, and then shrugged. "I guess you're right."

You smirked. "Of course I am."
