Work Text:
Enid has been acting rather strange later. More jittery than usual, more stuttering when saying her sentences, far too enthusiastic, more protective, still Enid. but, a little bit too Enid.
Wednesday was starting to get worried.
This behaviour of the werewolf has been going on for a few weeks now, it started after they got back from the break after the whole Crackstone incident took place.
Perhaps it has something to do with Wednesday? The gothic girl really didn't know what was the reason behind Enid's increase of attitude, but for some reason she didn't complain. In fact, she might admit to herself that the girl was a little bit more clingy towards her. Maybe because of her near death experience facing the Hyde.
Ah, that was it. Enid was being more protective of her because of the Hyde. Perhaps she was thinking of the wrong idea, there was no way that-
"Hey, Wends!" A jumpy voice greets, Wednesday could recognize that from anywhere.
"It's weird seeing you here in the quad, why're you not having your lunch in the dorm?" Enid says, as she welcomes herself to the free space of the bench beside her roommate.
"Greetings, Enid. I was thinking that it was perhaps time for me to open up for some fresh air, staying inside the dorm while eating my meal has gotten quite dull, as much as I hate socializing with other people." The gloomy girl excuses, what her intention really was, was to study why Enid has been acting like this lately.
"Oh, that's nice!" The werewolf says, food already stuffed in her mouth. "Seeing you eat here is like seeing a blood moon happen! Also, your food's getting quite cold." She continues.
"Please, don't try to talk while your mouth is full, it's quite disgusting." Wednesday deadpans, finally taking a taste of her own meal upon being reminded.

This can't be happening, things were going well, fantastic, horrific, even!
But of course as soon as Wednesday Addams starts to soften up on a certain thing, the Gods just have to take it all away.
She paces through the room, frustration overwhelming her, the sight of such an object shouldn't even cause her to react like this, but it did. It made Wednesday Addams feel fear.
Thing worriedly taps on her table, signing queries towards the girl.
"You don't understand, what if she does? I thought things were getting better between us." God, she could almost bite her nails.
"What makes me think that she'll leave, you ask? It's because of that damned duffel bag that she brought along on after she left me- us, here!" She finally settles on her bed, hands pointing towards the red duffle bag resting atop her roommate's bed. The same duffle bag that made her feel such fear, she never thought she would see it again given the circumstances. Their relationship was finally improving, for goodness sake!
The hand taps again, showing a little more interest in the situation.
"I do not know what I would do if I see her leave this room again, that stupid bag in hand."
'I don't think she's mad at you, maybe you're thinking a little too hard. Plus, you need to rest, Wednesday.' The hand reassures her, scuttling towards her side.
"Think, Thing. You think that she isn't mad at me, but what if she is?" The Addams' frown deepens.
'I promise you, I know that girl as well as you do. Well, maybe even more. She's obviously been happier when you are around. Trust my word on this, will you?'
"I see that you are trying to help, and I appreciate it. But this thought has been gnawing on me too much, perhaps I need to talk to her about it."
'Of course, but we can do that tomorrow, can't we? I just need you to get some rest, I can't have you stressing yourself to death otherwise your parents will feed me to Kitty.' The hand signs jokingly on the last part.
If Wednesday could easily laugh, she would. But she managed to suppress it.

When she wakes up the next day, she didn't feel any better. Some of the decorations that were visibly missing on her roommate's side of the room didn't make her feel any better. It made her feel worse. The addition of another bag made her frown deeper.

Now, Enid didn't want to seem clingy or anything, but she hasn't seen her beloved roommate all day, sure she's been more overprotective of the girl ever since the thing with the Hyde happened, but it's just her werewolf instincts acting up, really.
She just really cares for her friend, alot!
When Enid returns back to their dorm, she is greeted with an empty room.
Wednesday must've gone out while I wasn't here.
Well, plenty of time for cleaning without disturbing the girl! It's gonna be a busy day for her, such a shame to waste a good Saturday for cleaning, though.
Ever since their return to the school, the werewolf couldn't help but feel a little irritated about how dusty her room felt, so she took matters into her own hands by cleaning it up herself. Packing her items in her bags to free up space and have less trouble cleaning.
While she was busy cleaning though, she was visited by a familiar figure.
It was Wednesday, with Thing on her shoulder.
"Oh, good morning Wednesday! I was just cleaning my room-"
"For when you leave?" The gloomy girl interrupts.
"Wait- what?" The werewolf was confused, when she leaves? Enid hadn't made any plans on leaving, what was going on?
"Don't play dumb with me, Sinclair." She crosses her arms. "Make this quick." She glares at the confused werewolf, eyes turning into slits.
"Wednesday, I really don't understand, what do you mean for when I leave?" Enid really was starting to question things, Maybe Wednesday misunderstood something?
"I assume you were trying to take your leave as a surprise, I really thought things were going well between us, Enid."
"Wednesday, trust me. I do not fucking know what you are talking about." The taller of the two finally stands up, properly facing the girl in front of her. And hand.
"Do you seriously think I wouldn't notice you packing your belongings? You weren't exactly hiding it in plain sight, Enid."
The girl was confused, did Wednesday think she was going to leave her? Again? It didn't make any sense to her at all.
She could've sworn she just saw the tiniest hint of emotion on Wednesday's face, but she managed to hide it before Enid would decipher what emotion it actually was.
The silence was truly deafening, Wednesday thinks.
"I don't get it, what makes you think I would ever leave you, Wends?" Enid asks, forehead creating creases, brows furrowing.
"Are you seriously playing dumb with me right now, Sinclair? I told you not to do exactly that." Wednesday finally seemed to snap. "You didn't think I'd notice that blindingly red colored duffel bag sitting atop your bed? The same one that you walked away with last time?" Enid swore she could see tears swelling up in the girl's eyes. "And there is another one, too?" Wednesday points to the new blue duffel bag.
Thing looked worried, as worried as a bodiless hand could get.
"Wednesday I'm not trying to leave you-"
"Then what are you doing? If not leaving me and Thing here alone, again. Then what are you doing with those bags?" Wednesday's voice cracks. Enid's brows furrowing even more.
"You're worried about me, leaving you and Thing again because of the duffle bag?"
Wednesday finally seems to calm down and nods, facing the wooden floor.
"Oh, Wends. Let me explain," Her voice was so soft, honestly, Wednesday would melt if she heard another word from Enid in that tone of voice.
Enid leads Wednesday to her bed, sitting beside the two duffle bags, soft fabric of the bed sheet making contact with their bodies.
"I'm super duper sorry for creating such a misunderstanding, Wends. I do promise I am not leaving you, as much as I have to say it." The werewolf says as she takes hold of the red bag, carefully unzipping it to reveal what is inside.
She took out a dirty stuffed toy. There were many more inside the bag, that's for sure.
"You know, I actually just put these here to build up some space to clean up, and to get these guys for some laundry, sorry you got the wrong idea."
"It's quite alright, I was..afraid. That you'd leave me. And Thing, again." She clutches her legs harder, mentally scolding herself for being so open about her feelings in this moment.
Enid frowns.
"You're scared of me leaving you?"
Only a nod was to be received from the ravenette. Enid felt guilty, knowing that she left one of her dearest friends to deal with her emotions alone, even though her anger back then was justified.
"I know I barely showed any reaction or emotion for when you returned, but I can assure you that I was relieved, overjoyed, even, that you came back. Even though it only took a stabbed hand to get you back." She says the last part as a joke, trying to lighten up the mood.
"And I can also assure you that I am never leaving you alone here ever again." The werewolf lets out a sad smile, her hand slowly reaching towards Wednesday's,
"Is this okay? Can I hold your hand?" She asks with permission.
"Just this once."
Holding hands felt good, Wednesday decides. Maybe it's not so bad when she initiates physical touch with a certain werewolf.
Her thoughts get interrupted as a hand comes in contact with her left cheek. Wednesday could just feel her face heat up.
"Uhm, Is this- also okay?" Enid once again, asks for permission.
"Of course."
She closes her eyes as the werewolf gently caresses her cheek, worrying thoughts in her mind leaving without a trace, now that she was reassured that her roommate, is in fact, not leaving her.
"You're smiling." The blonde chuckles.
Ah yes, she would not mind this at all, perhaps loving the sun itself isn't too dangerous after all.
