Chapter Text
Enid was by no means a stupid person, her grades were solid and her emotional intelligence was nothing to shake a stick at. Her blog may not meet the writing standard of her prickly roommate but Enid was well known for knowing (and sharing) everything about everyone. So when said roommate came back to Ophelia hall past curfew for the fifth day in a row, Enid knew there was something interesting afoot.
“And where might you have been?” she asked moving to rise from her colorful bedspread.
Wednesday ignored her and went to her dresser to pull out her PJs and prepared for bed
“Wednesday. We had a deal, remember? You text me if you're going to be late and I cover for you with the dorm monitor.” Enid was watching as the other gathered the last of her garments.
“I was taking a walk.”
“Mmm… alone? I know you can handle yourself but I really would prefer it if you kept me in the loop.” Said the blonde.
Wednesday paused in the doorway of her walk-in closet and turned towards her roomate. “... I will be certain to send you a notice the next time Enid.”
Enid noticed that her friend had avoided answering the first part of the question. Normally she would let it go, chalk it up to the implicit understanding that Wednesday liked to be alone. But normally Wednesday did not come back to the dorm with a bit of paint on the collar of her black blouse. Enid smiled.
“I would really appreciate that, Wends.” she said and she saw Wednesday flinch and shut the closet door in response to the Nickname.
Enid quickly crossed into Wednesday's side of the room to stand by the now closed door. She could hear the shuffling of clothes behind the dark wood.
She smiled as she said “I guess if you forget tomorrow night, I can just text Xavier to bring you back.”
The shuffling noises stopped and Enid stepped back to see the door open a crack and a head peek through. Enid smiled wider upon seeing the faint blush on her roommate's cheeks.
“ Enid, I think you may have been spending too much time with Ajax. Please refrain from making such vapid and insipid comments towards me and my evening activities. I will not be as kind the next time it occurs.” Came the response in a dry monotone voice before the door closed again
Had this not been the second year she roomed with Wednesday, Enid may have been shut down but they were besties and that came with teasing privileges.
“Hmmm. Counteroffer. You admit your were with loverboy and I won’t post about the newest mystery regarding Wednesday Addams on my blog”
This time when the door opened the shorter girl was fully dressed in her black satin sleep set and glaring directly at Enid.
“Blackmail. I admire your devious spirit. Fine. Do not squeal Enid... Yes, I was out with Xavier.’”
Enid squealed, though much quieter than she would have without the warning.
“I knew it! He is totally obsessed with you! Everyone knows he's hung up on you but Thing and I were the only ones who thought you would like him back! Ahh I can’t believe you didn't tell me asap when it happened. Time to spill, tell me everything!”
Wednesday was tired from Enid’s excitement. If she didn't know for certain the girl was a werewolf she would have thought her a variant of an energy vampire.
“There is little to tell. He would die for me and I would be annoyed if he did.” That was not all it was but Enid did not need all the details of their nightly meet ups in the art shed. At least not yet.
“Wednesday I know that for you that is basically an admission of love but come on, this is what best friends are for to share the tea with and this tea is boiling!”
Wednesday stared blankly. “Why are we having tea at this hour? Are you going to have difficulty sleeping?” She asked.
Enid laughed and shook her head. In moments like this she could see exactly why Xavier Thorpe had fallen for the tiny weirdo in all black.
“It means to share gossip.” She put out a hand and Wednesday allowed herself to be pulled toward her own bed. The two girls sat on the black bedspread.
“So, I have questions. Let's start easy. Who made the first move?”
“This year? Myself I suppose. I told him I will probably never love him but I would like to engage in a blood oath with him for an indefinite period of time.”
Enid snorted. “ Wow, that's such a You way of saying you like him. I'm assuming he agreed?”
“Yes, he even added an addendum for torture should one of us break it.” Responded the girl and Enid could see the glimmer in her best friends eyes as she talked about torture. She will have to give her condolences as well as congratulations to Xavier.
“ Cute in a serial killer kinda way I guess.” Enid raised an eyebrow and leaned in for the next statement, “ Alright tougher question now, how did you get paint on your collar tonight?”
Wednesday was definitely blushing now. Enid was sure of it though the rest of the girls' features remained unchanged..
“ …We have found …an intimate activity that I do not despise. It requires him and I to be quite close to each others faces”
Enid was honestly surprised that Wednesday had even indulged her with an answer. She knew better than to push for clarification. She got the gist and Enid could tell that while her roommate was tolerating the conversation she was going to hit her socialization limit very very soon.
“Okay last question for tonight. Are you comfortable and happy with the arrangement?” Gossip queen of nevermore or not, Enid was first and foremost Wednesday’s friend and she needed to ensure that she was being taken care of.
Wednesday imperceptibly softened. “ Yes. Very comfortable. Happy…? Terribly so.”
Enid could feel the sincerity radiating from those words. That was enough. She would let Wednesday rest and stay content with the new information she had gained. She moved to get up from the bed and go to hers when the other girl grabbed her wrist. Enid looked towards her. Wednesday was averting her gaze.
“Thank you Enid. If you were amiable, I think I would like to continue sharing ‘boiling tea’ with you. I find myself wanting to talk about him to others but I do not wish for anyone else to know.”
The blonde felt her heart clench for a millisecond and made a mental note to herself that if Xavier ever messed up she would rip him to shreds.
“ Any time Wends. Maybe next time we can have real tea alongside the metaphorical.”
Wednesday nodded and let go of her friend's wrist. When Enid got into her bed, Thing turned off the lights and tapped out a “good night” before settling in himself. Both girls drifted off to sleep thinking about the next morning with varying levels of excitement.
