Chapter 1: 1. Tolerance
Chapter Text
Wednesday Addams found herself at Nevermore Academy yet again. After a whole 2 and a half months away from the school and her peers for the summer break, she decided that this time she would actually try making friends this time. Like the still lingering heat of the late summer and her annoyingly bubbly roommate wasn't enough to deal with. At least autumn was just around the corner and all nature would begin dying for the next couple months, however she couldn't say that about the certain werewolf she shared a room with in Ophelia Hall. Enid Sinclair was still pretty much alive and well; the goth ignored most of the blonde's texts, but she read one or two just out of full anger because her phone wouldn't stop beeping.
"Ah, my viper, look! We are finally at Nevermore once again." Her father, Gomez Addams, said as he looked outside the car. "How much I missed this place!"
"For my concern Father, you shouldn't miss a place of mental torture for the youth. Although torture is always pleasant, I'd much rather have me devoured by a bear, perhaps a shark, than be at this place again and have my brain fried with useless information." Wednesday looked at her parents, in disgust, as they couldn't help but be touchy all the time.
"Wednesday, my dear. We know last year wasn't the school experience you hoped to have, but at least make your last two years memorable. You won't be a highschool student forever, so you must put a little effort in enjoying yourself while being here. Perhaps, try finding a lover. Nevermore is the perfect place for you to live a beautiful romantic fairytale." Morticia Addams, said as she looked away from her daughter to focus her attention on Gomez.
"Your words make me want to kill you, Mother, but death would be too nice of a punishment for the fury you brought me. I thought we made it clear, I am not you. And I know for sure I don't want to live your sickening and pathetic love fantasy in the last place on Earth I want to be. I even considered making friends this year, but your words do nothing but make me want to change my mind. Your words are always infuriating, Mother. You are a sadistic woman who likes seeing her children suffer. Which I appreciate, but this went over my limit of tolerance." Wednesday said, opening the car door. "Lurch, help me with my stuff before I don't change my mind and try to escape this place again."
—----------------
After having Lurch bring all of luggage up to Ophelia Hall, Wednesday found herself alone in front of her dorm room. She knew the werewolf was inside already, so she needed a moment to breathe before meeting her.
Wednesday hasn't seen Enid at all since last semester, which was a good thing for the goth but it isn't such a good thing now. She knew the werewolf was utterly excited to be her roommate again, especially after the fight with Crackstone when their 'friendship' got closer.
'Just go inside. What are you waiting for?' Thing signed from the floor, making the girl look at him.
"It's none of your business. Go now before you'll have a finger removed by me, or two." Wednesday said, annoyed by the hand questioning her. She received a middle finger from the hand before he made his way down the stairs.
Wednesday took another deep breath as she reached for the door handle and before she could open the door properly, she could already see color. Hues of pinks, yellows and blues, all the colors she hated most. Same weird looking stuffed animals and same girly things she never saw the use or interest for. Her part of the room was still the same shades of blacks and dark grays, bringing the goth a little bit of comfort.
"Wednesday!" Enid quickly stepped down from the small ladder she was climbed up on and skipped to her roommate. "It's so good to have you here again! I thought something happened to you since you never texted me back." The blonde extended her arms to hug the brunette, and to both of their surprise Wednesday didn't move an inch. Enid took it as a sign that she was allowed to hug her friend so she went for it. However, Wednesday didn't respond to the hug. She stood still, waiting for it to be over so she could put away her stuff that was still outside on the corridor.
"Just because I own a smartphone now doesn't mean that I use it. I much prefer receiving and sending letters and I didn't get any letter from you. Plus, you didn't give me your full address so I could send you one." Wednesday said as she pushed herself away from her roommate's embrace. She looked at Enid for a couple of seconds and she noticed a few changes in the blonde. Enid's hair was a tad bit longer and she was taller than Wednesday remember but that wasn't a problem for her. Lurch was the tallest person she knew and he still got intimidated by her at times.
"So, you would have written me back if I sent you a letter?"
"Don't read between the lines, Enid." Wednesday said, making her way to her part of the room when she noticed her uniform neatly laying on the bed.
"Our new uniforms for the year. I picked up yours as well when I got mine this morning." Enid paused for a moment before continuing. "If I think more about it, it's for the better that we didn't keep in touch this summer. I can tell you all the new gossip going on around the school in person. Well, it's new for you because everybody already knows."
"I am not interested in hearing any of it, Enid."
—-----------------
"... So yeah, principal Weems is back." Wednesday sighed for the hundredth time, keeping her eyes glued to the ceiling. She didn't have much of a choice but to listen to the news her werewolf roommate had to tell her, especially now that they are tucked in their individual beds and there was no escape. There was not a worse time than the middle of the night for this kind of chitchat, because the blonde kept her busy the whole afternoon redecorating their room.
When Wednesday first came to Nevermore, she was a whole other person. Wednesday back then would never allow Enid to keep her awake late in the night gossiping about stuff she didn't care about, let alone spend the whole afternoon together in each other's company. She decided way before coming back to school that she wanted to be more tolerant of others, just like everybody is with her. Wednesday knew the werewolf wanted nothing more but the best for her, especially after saving her life from the Hyde, but it all felt too uncomfortable for her to fully accept it yet.
"Yoko started dating some older vampire guy, but he doesn't go to this school… I also broke up with Ajax over the summer." The last sentence piqued the curiosity in Wednesday. She didn't like the gorgon in the first place and never really understood Enid's obsessive crush on him, let alone the fact that they started dating at some point. But at least Wednesday had one thing less to worry about.
"Too bad. I would have loved to murder him this year but now I have no reason to do so." Enid giggled at the goth's words and turned around in her bed to face the side of the room where her roommate was.
"I actually feel better since we broke up. Ajax and I were never meant to be in the first place, but I was just too desperate to have a boyfriend, I guess." Wednesday turned her head to look at the werewolf but she didn't say anything. "What about you and Xavier? He seems more than interested in you."
"There will never be such a thing no matter how interested Xavier might be. The last time I gave a chance to a guy, I almost got myself killed. And as much as I love the sweet and endearing idea of death, no guy is worth dying for." Wednesday looked back up at the ceiling, trying to erase the memories she had about that particular time. How could she let her guard down and let someone so close to her? Just the idea of some random dude kissing her, gave her chills. The - I'm disgusted in myself - kind of chills.
"Hm, maybe I'll have a chance." Enid said, but her voice was much quieter this time. Wednesday didn't quite understand what the werewolf was trying to say because she never knew Enid had that kind of interest in Xavier before.
"Yeah, go for it. It applies the same to him as it did to Ajax. He dares to hurt you, he'll be dead." Wednesday's threat made Enid giggle again, making the goth look at her roommate again. "What's so funny? I'm trying to prepare for your inevitable heartbreak because it seems like you put no thought into it whatsoever."
"You're cute, Wends. I appreciate your care about my love life but you didn't quite understand what I meant." The goth furrowed her brows, now more confused than ever. "You should have read my texts."
"I deleted them before reading them." The goth nonchalantly said, receiving a groan of frustration from Enid. What was the werewolf trying to say and why was she acting this way? Wednesday hated riddles and she was too tired at that point to try figuring out what the blonde meant anyway.
"Good night, you meanie."
Chapter 2: 2. Acceptance
Chapter Text
It has been an awfully long and boring first week for Wednesday. Nevermore had a few new students, new teachers and new staff that she didn't quite bother to remember the name of. She preferred to hang out with herself most of the time or other students she was already familiar with. Those include Eugene Otinger and Enid.
"Are you coming to the beehouse after classes?" Eugene asked as he fixed the glasses on his face. The goth wanted to answer him but she couldn't help but feel the piercing eyes of a certain vampire that kept her mind occupied.
Yoko Tanaka sat at a table with Enid and Bianca Barclay and the whole lunch break she kept eyeing her. Her gaze was so strong that Wednesday could feel the tension even though the vampire had her eyes covered by sunglasses. However that didn't stop the goth to stare back.
"Yes, I'll be there. Now if you excuse me, I have a class to catch up on." Wednesday stood up from the table she shared with the psychic and went straight to the greenhouse for her botanical science class.
"Wait, Wednesday! There is still time and you didn't touch your fo-" But before Eugene could finish his words, the goth was out of the courtyard not before taking a last glance at the table the three girls were at.
…
Wednesday made her to the greenhouse even though there was still time for her class to start. She could use some time alone and think about the strange staring fight with the vampire; if eyes could kill, Wednesday would be dead by now.
She sat down at the usual seat she used to have last semester and waited patiently for their new teacher to arrive as well.
"Hey Wednesday. What's the matter?" The goth sighed under her breath as she heard the familiar voice. Its owner was no one other than the deskmate she previously had at this class, and guess what? He decided to sit right next to her out of all the seats available. Great, just great.
"I don't need you to watch my every move, Xavier." The girl said as she looked straight at the empty blackboard in front of her.
"Well, you just rushed out of the courtyard so I figured something is wrong with you." Xavier said, leaning his elbows on the desk while looking at the goth.
"I appreciate your concern but nothing is wrong. I just wanted some time alone." Wednesday eyed him for a second from the corner of her eyes, before looking in front of her again.
"I'm sorry, am I bothering you? I can go if you want me t-"
"Stay. I want to ask you something." Wednesday took a deep breath before facing the psychic so she could continue her words. "Did you happen to know what's the deal with Yoko? I have a bad feeling about her."
"Nope, no idea. Why? Is she causing you trouble? I can tell her to leave you alone." Wednesday sat still with no emotion on her face whatsoever; there's something going on that she doesn't know about. And Wednesday didn't like it at all, especially when she seemed to be involved in something without her acknowledgement.
"No, it's nothing like that. And don't worry about me, my Mother used to feed me vampire blood as an infant. I know how to handle her kind." Xavier scoffed, followed by a wide smile as she looked at the goth.
Wednesday started to feel a little bit awkward because of the silence that occurred. Her mind was still replaying the whole scene from before; she just couldn't wrap her head around it.
"So, what did you do this summer? I never heard back from you." Wednesday found it amusing because she kept deleting every text she got without opening them. She saw the name 'Xavier Thorpe' pop up a few times but she didn't really bother reading them.
"I dug up the grave of my great great grandmother from my Father's side. I had a picnic with her in our backyard, it was a lovely day. She hasn't decomposed much since the last time I saw her. I also started writing the next volume of my book but I burned the pages. My fingers didn't cooperate with my brain. I wanted murder but my finger started typing some romantic fanfiction today's youth seemed to enjoy. It was weird." The psychic couldn't help but laugh, making Wednesday frown at him.
"You are fun. We should hang out sometime so I could tell you about my-"
"About your summer that you spent making art and playing video games alone in your father's mansion because he was away for work most of the time and ignored you even when he was actually home?" The look on Xavier's face was priceless and Wednesday couldn't help but grin. "And now you're asking yourself how I know. I just know. It's a vibe." She reached her hand out and pushed his chin up in order to close his mouth that was agape. "But maybe I'm wrong and I do need to hear your side."
"So, you're down to hangout next week?" Xavier batted his eyelids; it was a new thing for Wednesday as well, considering hanging out when she would much more prefer her own company. But the goth promised herself that she would put an effort into making friends and Xavier seemed to be the easiest ones to befriend.
"If being down means being eight feet underground, then yes."
—---------------------
Wednesday spent the rest of her Friday beekeeping with Eugene and going through some books in the library, mostly studying vampire behavior. But she couldn't find anything regarding the 'staring contest' they had earlier that day whatsoever. The only way she could possibly find out was to ask the vampire herself or ask Enid since she pretty much was present the whole time. Or maybe Yoko had some rotten blood and affected her brain somehow.
It was late in the night when Wednesday returned to her room and expected nothing but for her roommate to be asleep so she could start writing her novel without interruption. However, her plan didn't go as she intended because she found the room in complete darkness, which was odd for Enid. Even the fairy lights on the werewolf's side of the room were off and if Wednesday remembered correctly, Enid usually kept them on day and night. It was nothing comforting for Wednesday's eyes to see nothing but darkness, but she knew something was wrong with her roommate.
And she was right. Wednesday found the werewolf coiled up under her covers sobbing not so quietly. She sighed because it was that moment when she should be consoling her roommate but the goth didn't bother much, yet. She decided to give the werewolf some alone time before approaching her.
"Enid." Wednesday took a long shower and changed into her nightgown, all while building up the courage to actually talk the blonde through whatever was going on. She wasn't scared, not in a million years, she was just nervous because she was aware that Enid needed her and consoling people wasn't Wednesday's forte. Death threats, yes. Attempting murder, yes. Inflicting pain on others for pure enjoyment, yes. But being compassionate about others wasn't on Wednesday's agenda simply because she couldn't relate to other people. "Enid, I know you're not sleeping."
"Leave me alone." There was a harsh tone in the werewolf's voice, taking Wednesday by surprise. Enid seemed angry, and that was very unlike her.
'She came back fuming and mumbling something about the Thrope boy then she suddenly broke in tears. She then started talking and laughing to herself before breaking down again.' Thing who was sitting on Wednesday's bed, signed. He was just as worried about Enid as Wednesday started being once hearing about the werewolf's state of mind.
'Perhaps she's going insane. Did you talk to her?' Wednesday signed back at the hand so her roommate couldn't hear that they were talking about her.
'I tried to but she threw me out the window. I barely managed to get back inside via the vents.' Thing said, making Wednesday slightly smile.
'As one should do.' Wednesday made her way to the colorful side of the room and stood above Enid, watching the movement of the pink blanket caused by the breathing of the werewolf. "Whoever upset you deserves a slow and agonizing death."
"Go away, Wednesday."
"Talking about your problems with a friend might ease your suffering. You are weak and vulnerable in this state, which does nothing but make you look pathetic. You look like prey, or an easy target, that I could simply inflict more pain into. But I'm not going to even though you tempt me. I want to listen to whatever goes through that imbecilic brain of yours and advise you if I can." Wednesday said watching the blonde take the blanket off of her head and sit up. Enid's face was red and her undereyes were black from the mascara that melted from her tears. Wednesday loved the look, it was similar to the way she did her own makeup, however she much more prefered the vomit inducing glitters and shimmery colors the blonde would usually wear.
"I want to tell you but…" Enid began as she looked at the goth, only to break down in tears again.
Wednesday sighed, sitting down on the edge of the bed and to both of their surprise, the goth initiated a hug. This simple act of care made Enid sob even harder than before, leaving Wednesday no other choice but to keep the blonde in her embrace as long as she needed to.
Wednesday wasn't dumb, she started figuring things out. The conclusion she got to was that Enid was upset because she agreed to hang out with Xavier, since it seemed like the werewolf was getting a crush on him. Rumors and gossip are making their way through the school faster than the speed of light, so it was no wonder Enid already found out about it.
"Just because I agreed to hang out with Xavier once, doesn't mean anything. He might be interested in me but I can also make him hate me, if that's what would make you happy. You can have him all for yourself because I'd rather hang myself than be romantically associated with someone." The sweet forest berry scent of the werewolf started overwhelming Wednesday's senses, making her break the hug. She looked at her roommate who was biting down on her lower lip, slowly shaking her head.
"I don't care about your hangout, Wends. Just promise me you will never date anyone at Nevermore." Wednesday raised her eyebrows at Enid for a second before standing up.
"A promise is a fool's comfort, you cannot rely on it. Sometimes I can't help but see my Mother in you. You both underestimate my willpower. I came back to this place with the sole purpose to prove to my parents that I can integrate. Dating was never on my to do list." Wednesday said as she walked to her side of the room. She laid down on the bed beside Thing after closing the light on her nightstand.
"I hate you, you stupid. But at least you learned how to hug right." Wednesday curved the corners of her lips upwards, forming a little smile.
"Don't flatter me with words you don't mean, Enid. It would be an accomplishment for me to be hated by you but we both know hatred is something out of your character." Wednesday closed her eyes and placed her arms across her chest, ready for sleep. "Also, if you mention the words 'Wednesday Addams' and 'hug' to someone in the same context, I'll skin you alive."

"Addams!"
"Barclay, Tanaka. What a surprise." The sarcastic tone of Wednesday's voice made the vampire cross her arms and roll her eyes, but that didn't stop Bianca from taking a seat across from the goth.
"We need your help." Wednesday looked at the siren with a straight face but on the inside she was a bit surprised. "If you might have noticed, Enid has been acting kind of weird since coming back to Nevermore." Bianca began, looking at the vampire for support, but Yoko kept silent while towering over them at the edge of the table, staring at Wednesday like she has been doing for the past few days.
"And how can I help you? Aren't you the friends Enid spends the most time with? She barely tells me anything." Wednesday raised her eyebrow at the siren, not really knowing what she could possibly do. Of course she wanted to help her roommate, she cared about Enid but she didn't care that much to let it show. She'd rather be in detention for her whole time left at Nevermore than act on her feelings.
If Wednesday recalls correctly, she never had feelings before coming to this school. She felt betrayal once it was revealed who the Hyde was all along, but she got over that feeling over the summer. There was no attachment whatsoever to Tyler, but she imagined her first romantical association would have turned out some other way. However, Wednesday's mind was still full of emotions she couldn't understand. Human emotions.
These few months of summer, Wednesday couldn't help but think about Xavier. She literally took a bullet for him. Well, it was an arrow but it's kinda the same thing. Of course, watching someone get hurt with a high probability of dying is always fun. But she couldn't let Xavier get hurt for a couple of reasons. She was guilty for falsely accusing him of being the Hyde and she was also thankful for having him save her life from the statue Rowan Laslow intended to kill her with.
Wednesday's mind was also full of Enid. When she came home for the summer break, the goth couldn't help but miss her annoying and obnoxious friend . Out of all the people at Nevermore, Enid was one of the true friends Wednesday made in the short period she's been there, other than Eugene. Enid was still a mystery to Wednesday. The goth still couldn't understand how a brain can be wired to make the body function in such an irritating way, yet she secretly loved the contrast between her and the werewolf. There was one in a million chance for her roommate to be her total opposite in every and each way possible. Yet there she was.
"Well, that's the problem. We are close friends but you are the only one who can help Enid in this situation." Bianca responded, her blue eyes pleading Wednesday at this point.
"Enid has a crush on your ex and she's probably upset because I chose to befriend him. I decided to make friends this year. Surprising, I know. It would be an accomplishment and an honor for me if Enid would hate me for wanting to befriend you two as well." Wednesday checked the siren out with her eyes before looking at the vampire who still kept quiet. Bianca furrowed her brows then laughed, before speaking up.
"We are your friends, Wednesday, but we respect your reservedness. I know you wouldn't like us being around all the time." Bianca smiled at the goth, receiving a nod from her but with no expression on her face whatsoever.
"At least, you got that right about -"
"JUST GET TO THE POINT, BIANCA. ENID IS IN LOVE WITH THIS DUMBASS AND WE HAVE TO MAKE THEM TALK ABOUT IT." Yoko blurted out, clearly losing her patience by the pointless conversation of the two.
"Enid is in love with me ? Why would she? There's nothing pleasant about me to like. I would much more prefer her as a friend . And why am I finding this out from you and not from her?" Wednesday was utterly shocked by the sudden confession of the vampire, but she kept all of her emotions behind a straight face.
"She confessed to you this summer over text, but you never replied. She wanted to confess once again school started but she kind of gave up since Xavier is in the picture." Bianca explained, receiving only a hum from the goth.
"Enid is my best friend and if I ever see her cry again because of a mortal weirdo like you, I'll make sure to have your blood served in a goblet made out of your skull." Yoko leaned over and pointed her finger straight to Wednesday's face, threatening her. The goth smiled at how hostile the vampire can be; this situation might turn out to be intriguing.
"Point at me again and I'll make sure your immortality will come to an end." Wednesday pushed the vampire's hand away as she stood up. She packed up her books, ready to leave the courtyard but unfortunately she bumped into Enid on her way out. Talking of the wolf .
"Whoa, careful there Wends!" Enid grabbed the shorter girl's shoulders in order to make her steady on her feet and looked at her. "What's wrong?" The werewolf asked as she looked at the goth but Wednesday avoided eye contact at all cost.
"Nothing is wrong. I'm just late."
—--------------
"Hey, are you there? You literally didn't listen to what I said once today." Wednesday came back to reality after being stuck inside her mind the whole afternoon while hanging out with Xavier.
They decided to meet up for coffee at Weathervane Cafe to talk and catch up on some studying together. However, Wednesday's mind was far away from her body, wandering in the past at all the things she figured out.
Enid acted the way she did because she was in love. Not with the psychic in front of her, but with her own roommate. Enid was jealous, upset, scared, sad probably because the goth wasn't giving her any sign whatsoever of liking her back or not. It must be frustrating and confusing to like someone like Wednesday Addams and the goth knew that too well. Her private self would never let anyone get that close to her again, after what happened with the ex barista. But to imagine Enid liking her, was confusing for Wednesday as well. She feared Enid now, to be honest. Out of all people, why Enid?
"How do I retrieve some texts I deleted?" Wednesday ignored Xavier's words as she placed the phone he gifted her on the table.
"I don't think you can. Why?" Xavier looked at Wednesday's phone and her wallpaper made him smile. "Do you have a cemetery in your backyard? Looks creepy."
"Yes and I'll bury you there alive if you don't help me."
"I can't help you with this one, I'm sorry. Why would you want back some text messages?" Xavier took a sip of his coffee as he waited for the goth to answer.
"I want to read them. I deleted every single one of them as soon as I received them." Wednesday said taking her phone back and placing it back in her bag, along with the books scattered on the table.
"What's so important about those messages? Ah, you are curious about what I texted you this summer?" Xavier smiled but Wednesday felt nothing but disgust on the inside.
"Not a chance. Our hangout is over. I'll be getting some more coffee before we get back to Nevermore."
…
Wednesday arrived back at her room at around half past eight. Her hangout with Xavier went on longer than she expected, but she was glad that at least she didn't have to face Enid earlier. She knew she had to confront the werewolf sooner or later, and sooner sounded like a better idea. If losing her friend was the only outcome Wednesday could think about, she wanted it to be done fast. It would save Enid from wasting her feelings and help her stop hoping for something that will never happen.
"I brought you coffee." Wednesday placed the plastic cup on Enid's desk, where the blonde was sitting.
"Thank you!" The goth watched the werewolf take a sip for the tooth decaying sweet latte topped with whipped cream and a special order of colorful sprinkles. Wednesday couldn't help but smile at the excitement of the blonde drinking her favorite beverage, also noticing the blank papers and familiar notebooks on the messy desk.
"You can copy my homework if you want. It looks like you're struggling." The goth placed the same exact textbook her roommate had alongside a black folder in front of the girl. It was the same homework she and Xavier worked on earlier that day. "I highlighted the important parts in my book so you don't have to read the whole thing. Also, change up a few words in the essay so it doesn't look like the exact replica of mine."
"I appreciate it, but why are you so nice to me all of a sudden?" Enid turned her chair around and looked at Wednesday for a moment. The goth saw a rosy hue form on the werewolf's face before she looked away.
"Maybe this way you will finally tell me the truth." Wednesday said, not moving an inch from the colorful side of the room. She wanted to hear everything Enid had to say. "You are hurting yourself by keeping all of it on the inside."
"What are you talking about, Wends?" On Enid's face was written nothing but dread, with a small glimmer of hope. Wednesday was not the kind of person to have many emotions, but surely she could read them easily on someone else.
"You like me, but not in the way I want you to like me. You should have told me as soon as I came back here." The goth nonchalantly said, watching the still horrified werewolf. "I don't know yet what to do about your feelings for me. There are two options here: we end our friendship and one of us moves out of this room because you will only suffer having me around, or…" Wednesday took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a second. She will probably regret this decision.
"Nope, that's not an option. I won't move out from Ophelia Hall and neither will you. Plus, I'm fine with us being just friends. I will make sure that I'll stop having feelings for you." Enid's tears started forming in her eyes, making Wednesday hate the fact that she brought up this subject. The goth sighed and approached the blonde who was still sitting down on the chair. There was a strange feeling going through Wednesday's body, one of which was pity . The other ones she couldn't quite understand, but what she knew for sure was that she hated seeing the werewolf like this.
"You didn't let me finish, Enid…" Wednesday took a moment before continuing her words. "Or I'll allow you to teach me how to return your feelings. I'm sacrificing myself here, so if you want the second option, you better make my effort worth it."
Wednesday received nothing but a hug from the blonde. The excitement in Enid's body made her shake, leaving Wednesday with only the option to wrap her own arms around her roommate. Wednesday smiled once the hug tightened, knowing that for the first time in her life she made someone happy. It was unusual for people to feel this kind of way around her, but for Enid, sadly , she'll do anything.
"I can't believe you are actually giving me a chance." Enid broke the hug but her arms were still resting on Wednesday's shoulders. The shorter girl was overwhelmed by the sudden lack of warmth once she parted from the werewolf. She kind of enjoyed it.
"Stop being so excited, it's morbidly annoying. Don't make me regret the decision of opening up to you." Wednesday removed her hands from Enid's waist and stepped a step backwards; the werewolf got the point and she also removed her arms from the goth's shoulders.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. Can I just ask you why you agree to all of this?" Enid asked, still in a surprised state.
"Your friends, they threatened me. But I thought about it and I want to learn how to feel something. And there's no better person to teach me positive human emotions than you."

Happy New Year, guys! 🎇
Chapter Text
Wednesday turned her head to the side, the sound of constant tossing and turning of her roommate in her bed made falling asleep difficult. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness since she couldn't close an eye for more than half an hour. She could clearly see Enid in some sort of distress under her blanket, giving her no option but to comment.
"Can you please stop? I'm tired." Wednesday turned her whole body around, having her back now face the colorful side of the room.
"I'm sorry. I just don't seem to be able to fall asleep." The pitch of the werewolf's voice was a tad bit higher than usual. Wednesday knew if the blonde wouldn't calm herself down, neither of them would get any sleep for the night. And the goth would hate that since they have classes tomorrow morning.
"Scoot over." Wednesday stood up on her feet and walked across the room on the cold wooden floor until she reached her roommate's side. She grabbed the edge of the pink blanket and pulled it up, only to reveal an even brighter pink pajama set on Enid's body. The color was nauseating to Wednesday's eyes even in the dark but not disturbing enough to be off-putting.
"What are you doing? I'm cold."
"I'm trying to calm your mind so your body could follow. I won't be able to sleep with you and your bed making so much noise. Now move before I change my mind." Wednesday sternly said, making a sign to the werewolf to reposition herself on the other end of the bed.
"Do you think having you sleep in the same bed as me will do me any good? I'm more hyper now of all things." Enid said, patting the empty space she made beside her, only to get a pair of unamused eyes rolling in their sockets.
"Don't get too excited. I'm not allowing touching, cuddling, hand holding and talking as long as I sleep beside you." Wednesday laid down and covered herself with the pink blanket up to her neck. She felt a bit awkward since she never really shared a bed with anyone before. Maybe with her brother Pugsley when they were younger, but certainly not with someone romantically interested in her.
"Do you allow kissing? Kissing was not on your list of restrictions." Wednesday didn't respond but turned to her side, leaving Enid with nothing but the back of her head to look at.
Wednesday was not ready for this kind of involvement yet, especially when it has been just a few hours since she agreed to letting Enid in. Kissing Tyler was something done out of a pure adrenaline rush, there was nothing else there. What happened was more done out of aggravation on Wednesday's side since the boy was always so insistent and didn't seem to know how to stop.
But when it came to Enid, care was involved. Wednesday cared about Enid but allowing the blonde to even consider making such bold moves, was out of the goth's plan. Wednesday wanted to take everything slowly and get used to all the new things she'd experience.
"I was just joking. Don't get mad, Wends." The shorter girl felt the gap between their bodies get smaller. The werewolf slipped her arm around Wednesday's waist, spooning her from behind.
"I told you that hugging was not allowed." Wednesday quietly said, trying to contain everything she was experiencing on the inside. She felt weak and she hated the fact that someone managed to make her feel that way. Enid's body pressed against her felt warm and gentle, like a spring breeze that Wednesday normally would never enjoy, but this time she somehow did. Wednesday wanted to relax her body, however she could feel the irregularity her heart was beating in her eardrums due to the sudden increase in her blood pressure. She wanted to also escape the werewolf, reconsidering the idea of sharing a bed but she was too tired to stand on her feet again. Her body and mind were contradicting themselves without a break only by the stimulus of a simple hug.
"You're shivering. Are you cold?" The hug tightened and Wednesday's breath hitched. She tried hiding the fact that she was getting nervous , but the soft giggle coming from her roommate told her failed.
"You're cute."
"I was supposed to smother you in your sleep, not the other way around." Wednesday said in a low whisper. "And I'm not cute."
"You are the cutest person I know." Enid let go of the goth and turned to her back; finally Wednesday could breathe again. However the sudden movement of the blanket let the cold air beneath it and despite the fact that Wednesday enjoyed lower temperatures, the warmth experienced earlier was comforting to her.
—--------
The direct sun shining on her face woke Wednesday up, but something was off. She opened her eyes and found herself surrounded by color and a familiar forest berry scent. Her body was half way on top of another living being; she immediately jolted up upon realizing the position she was in.
"You're finally up. Good morning, sleepyhead." The goth looked to her side and saw her roommate smiling at her, before the werewolf stood up. "We are kind of late. We missed the first two hours of classes."
"What?! Why didn't you wake me up?" If there was something Wednesday hated the most, it surely was being late.
"You were so peaceful in your sleep, I didn't have the heart to wake you up." Wednesday walked over to her side of the room, before gathering a whole bunch of books in her bag. She didn't respond to the blonde, but looked at Thing who was on the desk helping her.
Without getting an answer in return, Enid made herself unseen behind the closed door of the bathroom. Wednesday took the opportunity and stopped panicking by taking a deep breath before throwing daggers at Thing with her eyes.
'Don't look at me like that. You repositioned yourself in your sleep and latched onto her like a leech.' The hand signed before mimicking Wednesday's movement during the night using her pencil case as Enid.
"Why didn't you wake me up? I usually sleep in the corpse position, which is the most comfortable way for sleeping and you know it." The goth walked over to her closet and took a fresh clean set of her uniform out.
'You look more alive than I ever saw you. Your dark circles under your eyes are barely visible anymore. You had a good night's sleep for once.' Thing signed, before climbing up on Wednesday's shoulder in order to help her braid her hair. ' I have a feeling that you'll be like your Father in this relationship. I remember him being shy and in denial when he first met your Mother.'
"Don't dare to compare me to my parents ever again. Not even Uncle Fester will be able to save you from what I'll do to you. And what relationship?" Wednesday looked at Thing through the full length mirror on the wall. At this point she started hating what the hand was telling her.
'The relationship you'll have with her. It's so obvious that you love her and you have been doing so since before summer break. But don't worry, I'm the one who knows you best and nothing will happen that you can't handle.' Wednesday grabbed Thing and tossed him inside her bag, getting sick of what was said to her. The nerve that disembodied hand had.
"You are just a hand. Nothing more, nothing less. What can you possibly know about emotions, let alone love?"
…
"Hey, what's up? Can I sit here?" Wednesday looked up from her lunch and the voice could only be Xavier's.
"You are here and there are plenty of seats available. Guess?" Xavier laughed at the sarcastic and unbothered tone of Wednesday's voice.
She was grumpy and the fact that a good part of the students were staring at her longer than usual, made her uncomfortable. Enid was the head of the gossip group, so there was no wonder people knew about them so early. It was way earlier for Wednesday comfort and now she was already neck deep in it. She wanted nothing more but to make the werewolf happy, but she wasn't sure for herself. Dating was not a thing Wednesday wanted, let alone another person of her own gender. Dating a fellow female wasn't even an option to think about before, but to experience it so quickly in the inexperienced and non-existent love life she had, was a bit too much for her.
"Thank you for helping me yesterday. You know, with my homework." Xavier said as he took a bite of his food. The goth found the last 24 hours of her life moving at such a slow pace that yesterday's hangout with the psychic seemed so far in the distant past.
"You should be thankful. You did nothing but talk about unimportant and uninteresting stuff about yourself while I wrote the essay two separate times in two different handwritings. If I were you I would be ashamed to get credit for it. A- for something you didn't even do yourself, must be nice having me around." Wednesday sternly said as she watched the expression on Xavier's face change.
"Geez, why are you so angry? I just wanted to thank you and ask if you would like to hang out again." The psychic raised his eyebrows; the offended expression on his face made Wednesday smile.
"Don't make a habit out of this. I'm not available to hangout with you whenever you want."
"Why not? All you do is tend those stupid bees with that nerd Otinger and hang out with E-"
"Addams! Is he bothering you?" Before Xavier could finish his words, a certain vampire took a seat beside him and patted him on his back. "How about you hang out with the boys, Thorpe? This table is for us girls only."
Enid followed Yoko and sat down, but beside Wednesday. Bianca made sure to apologize for the malicious behavior of the vampire and escorted him to a nearby table where Ajax, Kent and other boys were having their lunch.
"You're gonna get yourself expelled with behavior like that, Yoko." Bianca came back and sat down beside the vampire.
"I don't care. I'm trying to be nice to our friend here." Yoko placed her sunglasses on her head and looked at Wednesday; a small smile appeared on the still resting bitch face of hers.
Wednesday found it funny how quickly the vampire changed when it came to her. Now that she gave Enid a chance, Yoko finally stopped being so hostile towards her.
"I don't need you to be nice to me. I'm doing it for Enid, not for you. I can also handle dealing with unwanted conversation." Wednesday's words made Enid grab her hand under the table; the goth sensed that the werewolf wanted her to stop, so she cut herself short.
"Enid is my best friend, Addams. You have no choice but accept the fact that I have to be nice to you, now that you two are dating. That still doesn't stop me thinking you are a total weirdo." Yoko brought Wednesday a frown on her face. Dating is what Enid calls it? Isn't it too early?
Chapter 5: 5. Contentedness
Chapter Text
The typewriting machine stopped upon the door opening. It was unusual for Enid to come back to Ophelia Hall this late at night, but Wednesday decided not to question her. With her back facing the majority of the room, the goth heard her roommate walk around on the color side of it, perhaps placing down whatever she was carrying. The squeak of the hardwood floor let Wednesday know that the werewolf crossed to the side of the room where she was. It didn't take long for Enid to approach Wednesday, closer than the goth was comfortable with.
"You shouldn't lie to your friends." Wednesday simply said, looking at the piece of paper she has been working on. For some reason, writing her novel wasn't progressing at the pace she would have liked and there was only one person responsible; Enid .
"About what?" Enid made the bold move and hugged the girl from behind as she was still sitting at her desk; the warm breath felt on Wednesday's cheek made her develop sudden palpitations.
"About us dating. That is not the truth, Enid. At least not for now." Wednesday murmured, as the hold on the upper body was tightening. She felt like she'll be nauseous any moment from the lack of air and personal space, but she decided to endure it.
"I didn't lie. I just told Yoko the exact same thing you told me. She just interpreted it her own way." Enid broke the hug and before she walked away, a quick peck was planted on the goth's cheek.
This took Wednesday's by surprise, a flash of heat taking over her whole body. She was blushing and she was too embarrassed to even move. She sat there for a moment, still like a statue before she plopped her head onto the desk. Wednesday couldn't understand how her body functioned at that point nor that she cared. All she knew was that Enid managed to make feel like a total loser .
"You'll get a concussion if you smash your head like that." Enid commented, trying to hold her laughter. It wasn't funny for the goth, but she let out a chuckle in despair .
"I bet that would feel a thousand times better than whatever I'm feeling right now." Wednesday confessed quietly, but loud enough for the werewolf to hear. This made the blonde approach again, this time pushing the chair slightly away from the desk so she could face the goth.
"What are you feeling, Wends?" Enid kneeled down, their eye level difference now had Enid being the shorter one. She rested her elbows on the black striped skirt covering Wednesday's thighs, waiting for an answer.
"Just sick." Wednesday's words made the blonde giggle and bat her eyelashes. Wednesday would be lying if she denied that the werewolf was nothing but beautiful.
"I think you might be lovesick. That doesn't make sense though because I'm literally here." Wednesday shook her head and looked away. The goth didn't have words to describe what she was feeling on the inside. "Did you feel this way with Tyler as well?"
"I felt nothing but disgust." Wednesday quickly answered, the mention of the Hyde sent chills down her spine.
"I'm doing my job right then." The goth was confused at first but Enid made sure to clarify. "Who would have guessed that just a little bit of warmth could make you fall in love. You seemed unapproachable at first but now I know that just by hugging you, I can melt you." Wednesday didn't say anything because Enid was right. It was difficult for her to admit that living her life deprived of physical contact led her feeling this way. It would always make her skin crawl whenever she saw skinship at her parents, let alone think about someone doing it to her. The truth was, Wednesday liked it a lot now. And she was eager for more once she knew the taste of it.
"It's getting late. My bed or yours?" Enid's face lit up with that question and Wednesday was glad she managed to dodge giving a response to her roommate. Being in love was still questionable, but liking Enid was just about the right way to describe what she was feeling.
"Yours."
…
It was hard to believe for Wednesday that just two nights ago Enid was a crying mess because of her. It was equally difficult to believe that just last night she gave Enid a chance. The most mind-blowing thing was that tonight was the first time she admitted to herself that she liked Enid. If someone would have told Wednesday that not even a month into the new school year she would be laying in bed, gazing lovingly into the eyes of her roommate, talking literally nonsense and enjoying it, she would have punched you in the face effortlessly. Yet here she was, listening to whatever Enid was telling her in the middle of the night.
"What are you thinking about? You're really absent right now." Enid turned her head to look at the goth, who did nothing but stare quietly at her for the past few minutes.
"You. I'm thinking about you." Enid shifted her position and mirrored Wednesday's, while resting her head on her palm. Wednesday could tell the werewolf liked what she heard; the glimmer in her eyes talked for themselves. Blue like a shallow ocean, not too dark of a blue. Although Wednesday prefered muddy swamps, the ocean began looking pretty as well.
"What about me?" A rosy hue formed on Enid's cheeks and Wednesday couldn't help but smile. She was cute . So cute in fact that the goth could just smother her to death.
"I just listened to you talk about your favorite band for like 20 minutes. You also sang along to some lyrics and your voice lacks a lot. Then you started gossiping about the new students. For once I didn't want to go deaf listening to you, although your voice goes up a few octaves every time you gossip. It used to cause me brain damage, but I kind of like it now. Unbelievable, I know." Wednesday didn't break eye contact with Enid this whole time.
"Stop it, Wends." Wednesday smiled seeing the werewolf get intimidated and brought herself closer. She was so close in fact, that just a few inches were separating her face from Enid's. Now, the blonde was red as a tomato and the goth was pretty shy herself once realizing the closeness between them.
"Stop what?" The goth stopped smiling only for a second and backed away, only to burst into laughter after. "I never thought teasing someone would be this entertaining."
"It's not funny. I want nothing more right now than to-" Before Enid could finish, Wednesday already pulled the werewolf towards her.
Wednesday was aware of the tension she created but she didn't regret it. When she pulled Enid in for a kiss, it was the same rush of adrenaline she had when she had her first kiss. But this time with Enid, the kiss was enjoyable. Her roommate's lips were soft and they tasted like raspberries. Her touch was gentle and careful, so careful indeed that Wednesday didn't realize she was guided on top of the blonde. There was a moment when Wednesday had to stop because her lungs were screaming for air. However the break didn't last long because the girl underneath her longed for more.
Wednesday found herself being grabbed by her waist and rolled over on her back, the werewolf on top never looked more beautiful. In the ocean orbs Wednesday saw nothing but honesty and affection. So much so that she needed more herself. She grabbed Enid by the collar of her shirt and pulled her down, leaving no space between them yet again.
This time however, the kiss deepened. A pair of sharp teeth bit the goth's lower lip, and a sound like she never heard before escaped her throat. Both of the girls didn't expect that from each other and had to break apart. Enid was the first to burst into laughter, followed by Wednesday shortly after.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for my canines to come out." Enid said as she leaned forwards, planting a small kiss on Wednesday's forehead. The goth took this opportunity to slip her arm around Enid and bring her down, letting the werewolf rest her head just below her chin.
"I'm not forgiving you." Wednesday's simple response made Enid snuggle closer onto her; she knew it was a joke.
"You will." Enid's demand brought a smile on Wednesday's face; of course she will. She already did in fact.
The silence found its way inside the room, none of the two girls saying anything. It was that moment that Wednesday came to term with what just happened earlier. Making out with Enid sure wasn't on her list for activities for that day but she loved every second of it. Just thinking about it brought moths in Wednesday's stomach; or butterflies, how normal people call them. It was a weird sensation not to want to be repulsive towards someone but to want to have them around.
"Will the whole school know about this by tomorrow morning?" Wednesday asked, as she was playing with the blonde's hair.
"I know you want to keep it private, like most of your life. So no, I won't tell anyone." Enid brought her head up to look at Wednesday before continuing. "I don't want to keep a secret though."
"Privacy and secrecy are two different things. They already know there's something going on between us, just don't give them details. Let them wonder." Wednesday moved a strand of hair away from Enid's face, making the same rosy hue appear on her skin.
"For me it's enough to have them know you are mine ." Enid brought a small smile on Wednesday's face before she decided to close the gap.
"Am I?" Wednesday was the first to break the kiss; this time it was a more light-hearted and short one.
"Do you want to be?"
"You'll have to work harder to fully win me over, Enid."
