Kreavens are mostly pale blue in colour, but sometimes their pigments could make them look more green-ish or purple-ish
Their eyes when calm are pitch black with gold outlining near the eyelids. When angered, their eyes change from black to more of a deep blood red, the gold merging with it to create specks of gold intertwined with the red.
Their bodies are bulkier compared to humans’, with sharp jagged horn-like spikes protruding from their shoulders and the backs of their calves. Their calves are also more defined and their feet are shaped more canine like than humans, allowing the kreavens to be able to walk on both two and four limbs.
I told Alec to stay hidden in the small crowd of people within the room. I didn’t want him being in danger, knowing that this being was the exact same as me.
“Alec, show yourself.” It sang in its scratchy, eerie voice, trying to spot where he was.
Alec looked worried, and for a good reason too, the Kreaven was moving closer and closer to where he was.
Its nails were elongating, its red eyes the only thing you could see from under the hood to its cloak. I kept my hands in a fist to keep my nails from elongating as well. The Kreaven pushed and scented the air as it moved through the dazed and frightened crowd. I quietly swerved between people as well, making my way behind Alec and putting a hand on his arm.
“We need to go.” I whispered, “That thing will try to kill both you and me if it finds us here.” He stared at me with his brow drawn in both fear and confusion.
“Why does it want me?” I shook my head and tightened my grip slightly.
“I don’t know. We need to get out of here” I pressed, pulling on his arm a bit. I heard breathing from behind both of us and tensed, my back going rigid and my grip tightening further.
“I found you.” The voice of the kreaven was eerily melodic and set off all alarm bells in my head. It was grinning down at us as we turned around to look at it and ripped Alec's arm out of my tight grip, in a flash they were out the back door.
“Sarah,” I shout out behind me, my voice filling with rage, “Get everyone out of here!” I stalk quickly to the direction the two of them disappeared to, letting my nails now grow to their natural claw length and taking off after them out the door.
I catch up with the two about five minutes away from the greenhouse, in the middle of the forest area nearby. I stop just behind a tree taking a kneel and keeping my breaths as quiet as possible as I watch for a moment, catching my breath and taking in the situation.
The Kreaven holds onto alec by his waist, its left claw holding tightly onto him as it;s right hand drags one of its right claws down his face. Its canines look to have elongated, both the upper and lower ones now protruding out of its wide mouth. Not good.
I move around the pair, quietly taking off my overshirt and laying it at the base of a nearby tree. I prepare myself by steadying my breaths and rapid beating heart, trying to put aside my worry and fear for Alec.
“W-what are you gonna do to me?” The faint sound of Alec's voice stuttering out is soft and laced with fright, his breaths also coming out in sharp gasps from the grip of the Kreaven.
The kreaven does nothing but hiss at him in return, opening its wide mouth even wider in a form of threatening smile and digs the tips of its long nails into the skin of his face.
Now in only my shorts and my favorite black singlet, I step out from the treeline right in front of them, crouching and letting out a menacing hiss, my face scrunching up to show off my own slightly elongated teeth. The pigment of my skin turns even paler, and my eyes return to the dark pits they used to be.
The kreaven narrows its eyes at me and crouches on one arm to mimic my stance, throwing Alec onto the ground behind it and growling.
It starts to circle me as I keep my eyes on it, keeping an ear out for the sound of Alec's heavy breathing.
“I didn't know there was another one of us here,” It hissed out, voice frustrated as it went behind me and circled back around my front. “How did I not sense you before?”
“I’ve hidden myself, and I've adapted since I came here.'' I keep my voice strong, never taking my eyes off of the Kreaven. “Taking on the gender and human features of an earthling.” it seems to be amused from my explanation, its thin tail swishing behind it.
“Is that so?” it mused.
I was aware that Alec could hear this whole conversation, and I was aware that Alec knew the one thing I didn't want anyone to find out. I had to keep my guard strong though and worry about it later, it will change everything, but i need to keep him safe. I growled again at the creature and the Kreaven hissed in response, arching its back and showing its canines.
My mind is thinking of every move that I could make, and my heart is racing a mile a minute.
It makes the first move, lunging at me with all it has and knocking the both of us over, rolling down a steep hill that was behind us. It tries to claw at my face as I try to block and do the same, both of us landing a few gashes on the other as we roll, my singlet now in shreds and so is its own traditional clothing. As we land I take a second to rip the remains of my singlet off and throw it to the side, leaving me shirtless.
I train my glare back onto the kreaven who is getting up from where it landed a little ways away from me and bare my teeth again as I run the opposite direction of where we came from, drawing it away from Alec.
It follows, and it almost catches up to me before I jump into the river. The water is cold as I keep myself in a threatening stance in the middle of it and hiss a warning and a challenge. It jumps in after me and tries to catch up to me, but before it could I jump out of the lake on the other side and I ran some more.
It caught up to me after a while and swung outwards, wrapping its clawed hand around my shoulder, pulling it back suddenly. I twisted around, slightly breathless and seething as I held the new wound on my shoulder. I crouched into a threatening stance, glaring at the Kreaven in front of me, Glaring at it with my eyes fully changing to its old red color. I lunge and grab at its throat, holding it against a nearby tree as I hiss, squeezing as it struggles.
It pushes off of the trunk and I keep my hold strong, maneuvering so as to push it down onto the floor. Its back meets the floor loudly as I move my body to crouch slightly over it, putting the majority of my body weight and pressure onto its neck. It wheezes and writhes, scratching at my hand in an attempt to free its airways.
I don't budge, even as its claws draw blood on my hand and arm, my breaths heavy.
“Let me go.” it demands weakly, its fight leaving slightly at the pain and air deprivation.
“You were going to kill a friend of mine. My Pack.” I growl, baring my teeth, “ Why should I spare you?” I spat at it, gripping slightly tighter my eyebrows drawn.
“It was instinct!” The Kreaven cried out, its canines and nails now retreating, its arms losing its fight as its body shakes minutely. It lets out a small whimper and my face softens minutely, my grip easing up on its neck to let it breathe a little.
It takes its chance and pushes me off of it, using its full body force to fling me backwards into a tree close by.
I crumble to the floor and sit there for a second trying to regain alertness, before lifting myself off of the ground and letting out a roar, my face betraying the rage I felt. I feel my bones pop and elongate, the spike I haven't had in years returning once again to my shoulder as I stand now near face to face level with the Kreaven. This was a form I hadn't been able to take on in almost too long.
I could breathe easier, hear better and I knew then that the Kreaven knew who I actually was, recognition in its eyes at the insignia that rested against the left side of my pectoral.
Before it has a chance to fully react I tackle it. My mind sees red as I claw at its arms and hands as we both roll a few times, stopping with me straddling the creature, one leg either side. I continued my assault, not caring as I scratched away at its face and neck alongside its arms.
I was going to show mercy, but no more.
The Kreaven race once kept me as a Weapon, so a deadly one i will be as i face this one.
The Kreavens screaming can be heard throughout the forest, but then, eventually it stops. Leaving a deafening silence as I stay where I am hovering over its prone form.
The only sound that can be heard are the deep breaths coming from my own body, as well at the quiet and short, shuddering, gurgling breaths of the Kreaven that lay under me. I frown, my brow pinching together as I watch it for a second. I shake my head to rid myself of the slight guilt I feel, and grab a stick from the forest floor close by, placing the jagged edge of the stick on its chest, right above the heart and take in a deep breath before closing my eyes and pushing down on the stick with force. I hear a crack and I feel the body beneath me stop moving completely. I pull the stick out of the Kreaven as I heave a heavy sigh.
I give myself a moment to regain my bearings, looking up at the cloudy sky that can be seen through the tree tops and letting my body reset to its small human stature, my eyes returning to the green they were and the spikes on my shoulders retreating.
I stand up slowly, using my knee for support and groan. I crouch beside the Kreaven, placing the stick I used in its hand and close its eyes. My head bowed as I whisper.
“May your mind and soul find peace.”
Even though it wanted to harm others, it deserves to have a funeral like any other Kreaven or human.
I take the time to gather some moss, sticks, leaves and flowers from nearby to cover the Kreaven’s body and look to the sky once again. I stand there for a few minutes, mourning the loss of life and what they could have left behind before retreating back to the same area I had left Alec.
When I reached my destination, I saw Alec still sitting in basically the same spot he was thrown before, Lisa sitting next to him attending to a split lip on his face and helping him put his arm in a temporary sling made from her jacket.
I tentatively walked towards them, making sure they heard my approach as I neared them and sat down a little over a meter away from them. Letting out a sigh as I rubbed a hand over my face before turning my gaze to the floor, trying not to glance at the pair of them.
“It seems to me, I have some explaining to do.”
