Work Text:
The first time it happened, he was five years old. And it sort of freaked him out. One moment he was watching cartoons with his brother, the next he envisioned his brother falling off of a bike.
Yoongi had no idea why he was seeing his brother hurt. He shook his head and focused back on the television.
Then five days later, his brother falls off a bike.
Yoongi didn’t know what to think. At five years old, he predicted the future.
After the bike incident, he got another vision of his mother burning herself accidentally. A few days later, he heard his mom cry in pain- from a burn wound.
And then another vision. And then another.
Yoongi was only five.
Some of the things he saw frightened him, but he couldn’t stop the visions from coming. He tried to ignore them, which resulted in predictions happening a bit faster than normal. He tried to tell his parents about what was happening to him, but they thought he was just imagining things- what children typically do.
Yoongi tried to talk to them again, at the age of nine. They dismissed him and told him he was imagining things again.
Yoongi was scared because the more he got his visions, the more people around him were affected. He became more withdrawn and afraid of his visions. He worried that someday, someone he loves will end up hurt.
Yoongi met Namjoon at University in music production. Namjoon was a year younger than him and was incredibly smart. It’s no wonder Namjoon could write music in his sleep. And it made Yoongi feel like he could trust Namjoon.
Especially when he envisioned meeting Namjoon two days prior. The two would become good friends in his vision. He also saw how much of a clutz Namjoon was, and how often he breaks things. So after meeting Namjoon, Yoongi made sure Namjoon steered clear of things that would trip Namjoon. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.
Yoongi’s visions became more powerful overtime. He gets a vision at least once, sometimes twice a day. They’ll come to him as dreams and nightmares sometimes as well. His visions have a wide variety of good and bad outcomes.
Yoongi enjoys getting the happier ones, like when he met Namjoon and Hoseok.
He despises getting the horrible ones, like a car accident that took away a childhood friend’s life.
Yoongi believes he’s cursed. He knows this to be true. He just wished he had some sort of answer as to why he has these visions. He couldn’t be the only one to have visions of the future. However, he’s never met anyone that is like him. Yoongi tried looking for a medium that wouldn't rip him off with bullshit answers (which was most of the time), just to see if they could at least understand what he was talking about. These attempts ended in Yoongi just becoming more and more frustrated with himself.
Namjoon is an understanding friend. Same with Hoseok. Yoongi is glad to have friends that sort of understand. He knows deep down inside, that that is their job as his friends. People who cannot see visions tend to not understand what it’s like.
Yoongi envisioned meeting two more friends: Jeon Jeongguk and Kim Seokjin.
Seokjin understood Yoongi the most, whereas Jeongguk just finds it cool and doesn’t bother him with questions about the future, (even though the brat has tried and failed many times.) Seokjin manages to talk with Yoongi during his episodes when a vision hits him. He even convinced Yoongi to write down these visions. Yoongi was forever grateful towards Seokjin.
Yoongi was grateful for his friends that kept him grounded. But having his friends always be around to take care of him bothered Yoongi. In fact, he felt like he was suffocating most of the time.
He was 27 and living his life with visions that make his life complex. He became incredibly depressed and lonely. He didn’t know how much longer he could take this life.
Until he met Taehyung.
Yoongi quite literally saw Taehyung- who was a complete stranger at the time- in a cafe reading a text book for a class. Yoongi was running late for a meeting, but seeing Taehyung sit by himself made him stop everything that he was doing.
Mainly because Yoongi did not envision meeting Taehyung.
Meeting be damned, because Yoongi was incredibly confused- intrigued- even. No matter how many times he looked into Taehyung’s direction, he couldn’t see the man’s future.
Yoongi knew he had to talk to him. Maybe Taehyung had an answer about who Yoongi is.
His chance was cut short because Taehyung began to gather his things and stood up from his seat. Yoongi panicked and tried to follow the young man, but after running outside the man was gone.
Yoongi lost his chance. The one chance to understand everything, and it's gone. Yoongi sighed and walked in the other direction towards his office building.
Then, he met Taehyung again a few days later. And the same thing happened. No vision.
It’s like the universe is fucking with his head. His answers were nowhere close to being answered. Yoongi felt more lost than before. And each time he comes across Taehyung, there is no prediction of their meeting. It was just a blank slate.
When he finally meets Taehyung, it's through Jeongguk. Jeongguk wanted to bring a friend along to one of their friend hangouts, and Yoongi didn’t mind. In fact he was ecstatic. He spent so much of the day trying to find the perfect outfit for the get together, that it made him extra stressed. Yoongi didn’t want to scare the man. Only Seokjin truly understands Yoongi’s situation. He knew he couldn’t just ask Taehyung why he couldn't see his future.
He had to build up to that question.
And when the magical moment of officially meeting Taehyung happened, Yoongi was blown away by the man’s stunning beauty. Brown curly hair, but some strands had waves. Big brown puppy eyes, adorable yet intense. And the most amazing boxy smile.
“Hi, I’m Kim Taehyung. It’s nice to meet you Yoongi-ssi,” Taehyung said, voice deeper than Yoongi imagined.
Yoongi is surprised he managed to not drool all over the man, and kept his composure. Yoongi smiled and shook Taehyung’s hand. He thinks he fell in love a little.
The two men were stuck to each other like glue for the rest of the evening. Talking small talk, they got to know each other quickly. Yoongi even found out Taehyung was interning at his office. And the two had similar tastes in music and food-
How could Taehyung be this perfect? Forget love at first sight, Yoongi was ready to marry the man.
It was like all of his worries went away the moment he met Taehyung.
Until the group went their separate ways for the evening. Then Yoongi’s worries came back in full force. Yoongi had a hard time breathing, the anxiety in his body rising quickly. Tears made their way down his cheeks. His whole body crumbled to the floor, in agony.
How could he go from feeling incredible, to feeling the absolute worst? What the hell happened to him?
And in the midst of his anxiety attack, he gets another vision.
His life is a bitter hell.
“Do you believe in magic Hyung?” Taehyung asked him during one of the many hangouts.
“Well, I’d say magic was for kids. But I believe there are things that we don’t know or understand yet,” Yoongi responded.
Taehyung hummed and went back to his book. Yoongi wanted to tell Taehyung about his visions, badly, but he was still confused about his future with Taehyung. All Yoongi understood was that he can’t see Taehyung’s future. And that Taehyung had the ability to calm Yoongi’s mind. Everytime they hung out, just the two of them, Yoongi felt like a blanket was draped over his mind. And it felt nice.
Yoongi didn’t want to let go of Kim Taehyung, who is a literal angel. He knew he had to tell him about his visions eventually. He felt normal with Taehyung, and he didn’t want that to go away.
But his hope had come crashing down when he had a really bad vision about Jeongguk. Yoongi panicked and left Taehyung in the middle of their conversation at work. Taehyung had followed Yoongi, and the younger could only run after Yoongi, who was keeping a fast pace to get to Jeongguk.
“Hyung, what is going on? You’re scaring me,” Taehyung asked as soon as Yoongi found out Jeongguk was ok. The kid had a minor accident and was doing just fine. Yoongi sighed and rubbed his hands over his face. There was a voice in the back of his head telling him, it's time .
“Taehyung, I have something to tell you. You can judge me all you want after I tell you, but let me just say this,” Yoongi took a deep breath and looked directly at Taehyung, “I love what we have and if you don’t want to be around me anymore after I tell you this, then I understand. I just want you to know that you have been a great comfort to me, and you make me feel less anxious about this whole thing. I’ve cherished feeling somewhat normal with you.”
Taehyung looked at him with wide eyes. Yoongi took another deep breath.
“I have visions about people’s future. I’ve had them since I was five. I don’t know how I can do it, but I have been able to see people’s futures, and what happens to them,” Yoongi said.
Taehyung looked at him and Yoongi started mentally preparing himself for the rejection. It would hurt, and he would move on, Taehyung would want nothing to do with him.
Except, rejection never came because Taehyung let out a small smile.
“Hyung, I know about the visions.”
“What?” Yoongi asked, his voice now at a higher pitch. Taehyung knew about the visions? How could he know? Did Seokjin or Namjoon open their mouths? Did Hoseok say anything?
Yoongi’s thoughts were spiraling into overdrive when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Hyung,” Taehyung spoke, “ You’re not the only one who has a ‘gift.’”
