Work Text:

“Start the engine and drive again tonight”

Jay hummed gently, propping his helmet on the seat of his motorbike. His earbuds blasted the song in his ears, muting all background noise.

He made his way quickly into the store to pick up some sustenance.

It was lonely honestly, just himself to look after. It was lonely to pop to the convenience store just for himself. His life was lonely in general.

After a while, when he came back, another motorbike was parked right next to his, a tall looking man glaring at his phone sitting there.

“Fuck’s sake! Worst night to get a bleeding bust tire!” The man grumbled.

“Hey.” He called, the man in question jerking up in shock to meet his eyes.

“What happened?” He asked, walking closer and grabbing his helmet.

The man sighed and ran a hand through his helmet tousled hair. “Ran over something on the way here. My tire is deflated. And I have a birthday party to get to. Fuck”

Jay grimaced in sympathy. Useless tires were the worst.

“Would you like a lift? oh my god I’m sorry please ignore me who would accept a lift from a stranger-“

“Yes please.” The man swiftly cut him off, hopping onto Jay’s motorbike. “I’ll drive there. My name is Heeseung by the way.”

Jay just stood there in shock for a minute. When he went to gesture to Heeseung’s bike, the man just shook him off saying, “That baby is busted. She ain’t going nowhere. Now get on.”

“How rich of you to order me around on my bike.” Jay sniped, the man just grinning at him, dragging him behind him. “And my name is Jay.” He added before latching onto Heeseung’s waist in terror as the bike sped off.

“Thank you so much!” Heeseung yelled over the bustling traffic of the night. “By the way, is this a regular thing? You offer a lift to random strangers? Sounds awfully flirty to me.”

Jay grumbled. “NO I DON’T!” He yelled back. “It’s because you have something important to get to!” And the fact that Heeseung was extremely hot. Well handsome in general, but he didn’t want to go that deep. And Jay was a weak man for handsome males.

They were stopped soon by red lights. And Red Lights by Bang Chan and Hyunjin came on. What a coincidence, he thought sarcastically.  Heeseung turned around and plucked the left earbud out.

“Hey!” Jay protested, hoping that Heeseung wouldn’t hate his music taste.

“One earphone only baby. Not great when you’re driving.” Heeseung winked, putting the earbud in. “Ooo Stray Kids. Nice choice.”

Jay slumped back, giving up on attempting to get his earphone back. “Thanks.”

“Are we close?” He asked, as they passed more traffic lights for the nth time. “5 more minutes sweetheart. Sorry do you have something to get to?” Heeseung said apologetically.

“No.” Jay admitted. “I was planning to go back home and sulk since I’m single and lonely.”

Heeseung looked at him in pure confusion. “You’re single? Holy shit.”

Jay groaned, annoyed. “Yes. Don’t rub it in.”

“That’s not what I meant!” Heeseung said in complete protest. “It’s just that you’re really pretty and handsome! I kinda expected you to have a girlfriend or something!”

Jay choked on his spit. “Girlfriend? Are you pulling my leg Heeseung? I’m gay.”

Heeseung blinked confusedly. “Damn. Okay. Does that mean I get a chance with you?”

“You just met me!” Jay deadpanned, appalled at the question.

“I believe in love at first sight baby!” Heeseung singsonged.

Jay groaned again and whacked his forehead on Heeseung’s very solid back.

They finally started to move again, lights blurring around them as they gained speed.

Heeseung steered the motorbike into the parking space, right outside an apartment complex.

“HEESEUNG HYUNG!” A voice yelled, a figure immediately bowling into Heeseung the second he got off the bike.

“You’re late!” The boy, no, an overgrown teenager, scowled, flicking Heeseung’s forehead, Heeseung blanching in shock at the abuse.

“Sorry little one, one of my tires went bye bye” Heeseung said apologetically, hugging the taller male.

“I’m still annoyed! You’re late for Sunghoon hyung’s birthday! As well as mine!”

“I’m here though! I wouldn’t be here if Jay didn’t let me borrow his bike!”

The taller boy’s attention turned to him. Wow, he kinda looked like a pouty duck. Cute.

He ran over and planted his feet in front of him. Gosh, he is tall. He towered over Jay, smiling brightly down at him.

“Thank you Jay! Please join the party! As payment for my stupid hyung not checking his tires. Sunghoonie hyung won’t mind. No one will.”

Jay was about to decline the invitation before Heeseung grabbed his hand. “C’mon Jayy, you told me you were going home to mope. Please!”

Jay huffed and rolled his eyes. “Fine.” He grumbled, and let himself be dragged by Heeseung up the stairs.

Ni-Ki, as he introduced himself, opened the door to the apartment. Yells filtered out the door, raucous ones. Ni-Ki grinned at his reaction. “Sunghoon hyung brought out uno. That’s why they’re all arguing.”

Heeseung dragged him to the door, and sat him on the ground beside Ni-Ki.  “Heeseung what the hell.” He squawked, not expecting it.

“Ooo. Who is this? Heeseung hyung’s new boyfriend?” One of the boys cooed teasingly.

“Wait, are you?” Ni-Ki said in shock.

When Jay had finally recovered from spluttering, he immediately began to deny the statement.

“No! I just helped him get here! Actually… I really should go!” He yelped, running for the door.

A hand grabbed his ankle and he came crashing down. Before he could hit the ground though, hands grabbed his arms and held him upright.

“What happened here?” Heeseung asked in amusement, as the hand on Jay’s ankle slowly retracted.

“He was trying to leave.” The boy held up his hands in surrender. Jay glared at him for cutting off his escape plan.

“Thank you Jake.” Heeseung laughed, making Jay hit his chest, annoyed.

“Nope, not my boyfriend. Maybe in the future though.” Heeseung grinned, making Jay sit down in the circle again.

Jay just sighed, and let himself be given 7 cards, and play the game.

——————————————————————————

Every one of Heeseung’s friends were actually great fun.

He found out a lot about them, as they exposed each other left and right.

Ni-Ki was the youngest (not in height though, and that thoroughly freaked him out) and was one of the birthday boys.

Sunghoon was his boyfriend, a figure skater, and a very loud introvert, screaming his head off at any chance.

Jake was Australian, and to his delight they could speak English with each other, much to the chagrin of the others, who accused them of cheating.

Sunoo was the bright one, always looking after and teasing the others. He was surprisingly sassy too.

Jungwon was Sunoo’s boyfriend, and the group's savage, who's judging faces made Jay feel stitches from laughing so much.

They all made him join in their antics, grabbing his phone off him and adding him to their group chat. It was nice, having news contacts on his phone.

And then there was Heeseung. He would not stop teasing him about the fact he was older than Jay the second it was revealed.

And other than the incessant flirting, Jay liked him a lot. A little too much.

——————————————————————————

Heeseung jumped off the bike. They were at his apartment, having left the others as it was 5 am in the morning.

As Jay went to turn on the engine again, Heeseung stopped him. “It’s too late. Or early. Just crash with me tonight.”

Jay was too tired to argue, and let himself be brought into Heeseung’s home.

Heeseung laid him on the bed, and went to leave the room.

Jay sleepily grabbed his hand and tugged him back.

“You’re such a baby.” Heeseung scoffed in amusement, settling down on the bed beside Jay.

And when the rest of the group stalked him and Heeseung on their date in the future, he was fine with it, as he didn’t feel lonely anymore.
