Work Text:
Back when Tsukki was a kid, he didn’t care for valentine’s day or did he think he would find someone and settle for them for the rest of his life. He believes that valentine’s is just a way for people to waste their money. He doesn’t understand why someone wants to express their love on the one day where everyone celebrates it. It was not logical.
To Tsukki, if you love someone, you don’t need Valentine’s Day to show them that you love them. If you love someone, you can express it any other day. He just doesn’t get it. It’s just another day of the year.
Well that is until he met a certain someone. The certain someone is annoying, short, orange haired volleyball freak, Hinata Shouyou. Tsukki hated him. Hated his determination for volleyball. Why is Hinata Shouyou trying to so hard in Volleyball? It is just a club.
Until one day, he found himself giving his everything in training. He blames Hinata for it. The more he sees him, the more he kept trying. At some point, he wants to be by Hinata’s side. While Hinata is flying, soaring, he became a solid wall for him. A wall that blocks the enemies attack but more importantly a wall for Hinata to rest on. To be there for him and trusting Hinata to be there for him too.
In year 2, however, is when he realised that he is also a partner with Hinata in court. Just like Kageyama and Hinata are partners in court. Yamaguchi helped him realise that. Bless his soul. Yamaguchi told him that he could used the time for both of them to practise together as middle blockers. And practise together he did. It was exhilarating yet tiring to keep up with him but he kept on craving for more. Practising together during training turns to them getting meat buns after practise. Turns to extra practises over the weekend at Hinata’s house turns to them hanging out for fun, just the two of them. It was like a dream for Tsukki.
As usual, Valentine's day comes every year, this year it was on a Sunday. Tsukki plans on staying at home as usual. Yet, Hinata called him to get ready cause he wants to go out with him for today. They went to lunch, played some games at the arcade, and did a little shopping. At the end of the day, they went to a deserted playground to chill. And that’s when Tsukki realise that Hinata seems off.
“Oi. You, ok? Your face looks red. Are you cold?” Tsukki didn’t hesitate to wrap his scarf around Hinata’s neck. Once done, Tsukki looked at Hinata and let out a laugh. Hinata’s head was literally buried under the scarf, only his hair can be seen.
“Ha. Ha. Ha. Laugh all you want! You’re just big! You big buffoon!” Tsukki took out his phone and take a picture of him to remember this day.
Suddenly, Hinata was quiet again. “Hey, Tsukishima..” Tsukki hummed, while looking up to the dark sky. Admiring how the stars littered throughout the sky and how the moon shine really bright today.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?” When Tsukki turns to Hinata, Hinata was already staring at him. Tsuki started to feel really hot. He doesn't knows if the temperature in the winter cold have rise or it was him heating up.
Tsuki knows what he feels for the shorter boy. He accepted his feelings and buried it at the same time. Saving himself from the heartbreak in the future. That's what he thought. But he wasn't prepared to have Hinata to feel the same. It was unexpected. Tsuki wasn't prepared for this situation. With that, he ran. Ran home, far away from Hinata. He blames Valentine’s day for today.
