Chazz and Katie have been out on the ice since two in the morning. She has a cup of warm chocolate, and he’s carrying his skates over his shoulder. Today it’s just the two of them – Jimmy is out of town trying to find a venue for his wedding to Katie.
They’re never often alone like this. Chazz misses his brother-in-all-but-blood but takes it as a sign that he needs to spend more bonding time with his prospective sister-in-law of the soul. “If you’re going to marry into the Wolfpack,” Chazz says, sitting beside her on the ice-cold bench and double-tying his laces, “then you’re gonna have to get used to rising early after rocking hard.”
Katie looks disturbingly fresh-faced and bushytailed as she sips her cocoa. “I’m used to it. If I didn’t get up at five every morning to pluck all of the dates out of his cereal, then Stranz would start playing those tapes of our parent’s accident over the intercom.”
“…That is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard in my life, and I didn’t have human parents,” Chazz replies.
Katie opens her mouth to protest, but snaps it shut. “So does my choreo sound good?”
“Yeah,” he said. “I think you’ll nee to adjust it so it’s a little more manly, but I think we can swing it.”
Katie sighs and swings her legs around the other side of the bench. “So, come show me.”
Chazz grinned, and then shoved off onto his right foot.
