Last Christmas

Summary:

When everyone shows up at Luche's place to celebrate Christmas a few secrets are uncovered.

Notes:

This probably makes the most sense if you read the main story, but I think it works without it as well.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It’s Christmas eve and lucky as he is, Tredd does not have to spend it on his own. He is at Luche’s place, since his flat is a lot more comfortable – after he snuck in some decorations and persuaded the blonde to get a tree, that is. Said tree is standing in one corner of the living-room, well adorned with red and golden ornaments, even more lights and glittering tinsel.

Two lonely gifts lay underneath it. The redhead also insisted on getting an advent wreath and putting up some fir garlands. Some candles are already burning to create a cozy atmosphere. On the table sits a bowl full of Christmas candy and homemade cookies that Tredd got from someone, because certainly neither he nor Luche would bake some unless they would be forced.

“Phew, finally a few days of peace.” The redhead mumbles as he shuffles into the living-room, casting a rather triumphant glance at the Christmas tree. "Yes, good you got the days off, so we have time for us." Luche nods, shutting down his laptop and stores it in his office room.
Afterwards the blonde grabs two cups of fresh coffee from the kitchen, putting them down on the small side table at the sofa before sitting down. He may not be particularly happy about the tree and the decorations, but he is at least getting used to it.

Tredd plops down on the sofa next to him. He seems to be very happy about the decorations and he does not even hide it. Grabbing the remote control from the table he sighs contently. “A few days just for us, what a luxury.”

"Such a rare occasion needs to be used to the fullest." Luche grins, getting comfortable. He wraps one arm around the redhead, pulling him closer. "Any ideas how to spend our time except idling on the sofa? And no, Christmas carols are not an option."

“Damn it!” Tredd curses, staring at the remote control for a moment before he tosses it back onto the table. “You know me too well.” He complains, leaning back into Luche’s embrace. Luche grins widely. “Obviously I do.” He states, pulling the redhead even closer.

“I’d say we order some good food, open our presents and then have dessert.” he suggests, grabbing a cookie from the bowl. “That sounds like a very good plan.” the blonde whispers into Tredd’s ear.

The redhead barely gets to take a single bite from his cookie when the doorbell rings. “Do you expect someone?” he asks visibly irritated. Luche lifts an eyebrow, then shakes his head. "No, I don't. Probably just some of these carol singers that go around and sing to collect donations. I say we ignore the door."

Tredd shakes his head. “Aww come on, it’s Christmas. Maybe they collect for poor children, you can’t ignore that on a day like this!” he chides and gets up when the doorbell rings again, more emphatic this time.

Luche makes a sound that clearly shows his discontent but loosens his embrace and gets up as well. "Yeah, you're right." He sighs, walking over to the door, to pick up the intercom to check who is at the door. Tredd follows curiously, expectantly glaring at the speaker.

“Hey boss!” Crowe’s voice can be heard. “I forgot to bring your present yesterday, so I have it here with me. Would you let me in please? It’s fucking cold out here!” Luche sighs. "Well, that could have waited." He replies, pressing the buzzer nonetheless, to let her in.

Tredd blinks a few times, squinting at the blonde questioningly. “Don’t tell me you exchange gifts at the office?” Luche shrugs. "Not really, no. Maybe she thinks I'm becoming softer, thanks to you." He winks at the redhead.

Meanwhile Crowe and her ‘gift’, namely everyone else enter the building and squeeze into the next elevator altogether. They’re packed with bags of presents and homemade food on top of that. As soon as the lift has reached its destination it becomes audible that Crowe is not coming alone. Multiple footsteps and voices are coming closer.

"In case Crowe hasn't double her size and feet, I guess, she is not alone." Luche lifts an eyebrow. For a few moments he is reluctant to open the door but overcomes it and pushes the handle to open it. Tredd frowns. “That’s more than doubled.” He states, casting a cautious look outside once Luche opens the door.

He’s just right on time to see Crowe, Selena, Nyx, Cor, Pelna, Monica, Libertus and Aranea round the corner with their baggage. “Oh!” he exclaims, clearly surprised but not unpleased. “Merry Christmas!” everyone calls when they reach the door.

“Good grief." Luche mumbles, lifting an eyebrow with a very unpleased look in his eyes. "So much for our peace." He adds, not even trying to hide that he is not happy about the disturbance, although he is still letting the others in.

“Don’t worry, we brought food!” Crowe chirps while she enters and passes the two to rush straight into the living-room. There she puts the food on the table and her gifts underneath the tree. “Lots of food.” Libertus confirms while he follows Crowe and stores his stuff as well. "As if we couldn't survive without it." the blonde mumbles, running a hand through his hair.

“Hello to you too, Mr. Grinch.” Nyx greets Luche with a wink before he too enters the flat with Cor. Aranea grins and claps Luche on the shoulder. “You really need a good party, mate.” She chuckles, giving him a wink as well. Tredd just grins, greeting everyone happily.

"Because I like parties that much." Luche growls, closing the door behind the others. "One more reason for you to have one. Why miss all the fun?" Pelna grins, joining the others in the living-room. "Because I prefer not to be assaulted by uncalled visitors." The blonde adds, slumping down on the sofa, still visibly displeased.

"If he keeps the sour mood, he'll sure turn green like the real grinch." Cor whispers in amusement to Nyx. “Well, we’re going to change that now.” Nyx whispers back grinning. From the table he snatches the remote control to turn on some Christmas music while Crow pulls Selena into her lap after finding some space for them. Even the largest sofa can get a bit tight with so many people around.

Selena giggles, putting an arm around Crowe's shoulders to secure her seating. "There are chairs in the kitchen." Luche states when everyone gets seated. He does not look like he is going to get them. A neutral expression is the best he can keep up, although it still displays clearly what he thinks about all this. All that is missing is, that he also folds his arm to complete the impression of the grumbling green furred Grinch.

Monica sits down next to Pelna, smiling encouragingly at Luche. Once every present lies underneath the tree, creating a large pile, all the food is placed neatly on the table, and everybody has found some space to sit Tredd plops down next to Luche again. He tries to avoid it, but a smile is tugging at the corners of his mouth, distinctly enough that he is unable to hide it.

Suppressing a sigh, Luche wraps an arm around the redhead again. "I am not sure if that worked so well." Cor chuckles regarding the music. "You can't always be that serious." He states towards the blonde, which is answered with a cocking of the head and a lifted eyebrow.

Nyx shrugs. “Well, we still have the music.” He replies, holding up the remote control as if it were some kind of trophy. “Besides I don’t know anyone who doesn’t get into the right mood sooner or later.” He adds, looking pretty content himself. "Well, we'll see." Cor smiles. He obviously enjoys the music and the get together with the others.

Aranea laughs. “I’d expect the latter, although later is a term that does not quite feel fitting.” “Rather never,” Crowe interjects and grins. “But it’s not like we care, right?” she asks, earning murmurs of agreement from the others.

Luche rolls his eyes. "You're lucky enough I let you in." He states. "And if it wasn't for him, you would still stand outside." He adds, casting a short glance at Tredd. "As if. We're your friends, too." Pelna declares. "And since you're still bearing with Tredd, I am sure there is a heart somewhere in there and that secretly enjoys this." The black-haired adds.

Tredd snorts. “Thank you.” He mutters dryly, turning towards Luche afterwards. “Come on, smile, the easier it gets. Plus, isn’t it much better than last year?” he asks, leaning a bit more into Luche’s embrace. The blonde just huffs quietly, though pulling the redhead a bit closer.

“Last year has actually been the best Christmas ever.” Nyx smiles. “What, are you serious?” Libertus huffs. “I’ve never attended a stiffer and more boring party.” Crowe agrees. "Gods, yes, that was even worse than that charity event." Pelna yawns ostentatiously to demonstrate how boring it was.

Monica chuckles. “To be honest, even I’ve been grateful when it was over.” She states, while Aranea makes a face. “Don’t remind me.” She shakes her head. "Yeah, me neither." Selena nods. “It got a lot better after the party.” Tredd hums with a grin, glancing at Luche from the side. “Right?”

The blonde tilts his head slightly, lifting the corners of his mouth into a slight, soft smile. "Yes, that's actually true." He nods. "Even though I probably wouldn't have participated, if a certain someone could have kept her fingers to herself." The smile turns into a grin when Luche casts a glance to Crowe.
Crowe snorts not very ladylike and sticks her tongue out. “I told you you’d thank me later!” she claims, while Libertus raises an eyebrow. Then he gets up to disappear into the kitchen to collect dishes and cutlery as well as glasses for all of them. “Mind filling us in?” Aranea asks, her gaze wandering from Tredd and Luche over to Cor and Nyx.

"That you did." Luche nods towards Crowe. "Wait a moment, what did she do?" Pelna interjects. "I want to know, too!" The black-haired officer exclaims. Selena's gaze wanders to Cor and Nyx. "Yeah, brother, tell us." She nods enthusiastically.

"Well, I don't know..." The blonde stretches a bit, trying to bide his time. "What do you think?" He looks over to Tredd. It is clear, that sharing how they became a couple falls into the 'none of your business area'. But it is also clear that he would share the story if the redhead wants to.

Tredd chuckles. “You know what will happen, if we don’t enlighten them.” He states, shifting his gaze curtly when Libertus comes back in. “Yes, either you spit it out while we eat or we’re going to sing Christmas carols afterwards and you’ll have to sing along.” He threatens.

"Hmm..." Cor makes a thoughtful face. "I think, we can tell them, no?" He quietly asks Nyx, leaning a bit over to him. Sneaking an arm around Cor, Nyx shrugs. “Why not? It’s been my best Christmas ever after all, unless this year is getting even better, so I’m fine with telling them.” He answers.

Crowe grins widely. “Oh yes, story or carols!” she calls, “Story or carols!” Aranea repeats, encouraging the others to join in, until they all repeat it in a choir.

"Story or carols!" Of course, Selena chimes in. "That's actually blackmailing at its finest." Luche states dryly. "I am a lawyer; you really think threatening me is a good idea?" He adds, grinning slyly. "Oh, I am sure, you won't sue your friends. Or your own employee." Selena grins widely.

“Even a lawyer needs witnesses, and I’m so terribly sorry, but as much as I tried, I couldn’t find any.” Nyx chuckles. "Aaand, they will make you sing, no matter what. So, you better spill the beans." Pelna adds, nodding deliberately. The blonde rolls his eyes. "Great." He mumbles.

Tredd smiles softly, wrapping an arm around his lover’s waist. “Smile, it could be worse.” He murmurs merrily. "I smiled and it got worse. Or so the saying goes, I think." Luche answers dryly but with a wink towards Tredd. "Let's start first, maybe our grinch here opens up a bit." Cor suggests.

Nyx huffs. “That won’t happen unless someone fills him with mulled wine or eggnog, and even then, I highly doubt it.” He claims and shrugs. “But well, let us all get something to eat and then we’ll start.” He offers. Cor nods. "Yes, please, that smells so delicious." He agrees, getting up. "Shall I get you something?" He asks Nyx. "Or do you want to get something yourself?"While Cor gets up Nyx nods slightly. “You know me good enough by now, I trust you do bring something nice.” He replies softly.

“Count me in!” Aranea gets up, grabbing a plate from the stack Libertus brought and fills it. “Alright!” Crowe pulls Selena along so they can get something. Monica gets up too, waiting for Pelna. Libertus grins, filling his own plate. “Any special wishes? I’ll get you something, too.” Tredd asks Luche, giving him a happy smile. "No special wishes." The blonde shakes his head.

"Come on, don't let us wait!" Selena urges her brother to start their story once everyone has something to eat and drink and got comfortable again.
Nyx chuckles in amusement. “That’s my little sister, impatient as ever.” He mutters, leaning back with his plate once he gets it from Cor. “Well, you all remember that cheap excuse of a Christmas party and the secret Santa event that Crowe signed Luche up for, although at least that was pretty fun.” He grins, shoving something into his mouth before he continues. “And most of you know that I had to get a present for Cor…”

* * * * *

It has taken Nyx some time to find the perfect present for Cor. He wanted to get him something special, as they have met for a while now without ever dating and he is going to change that, or rather he attempts to.

On the table in front of him sits the model of a certain vintage car, the same car that Cor uses to drive. It has not been easy to find out what car he has in his garage, and the research took a lot of patience as the prosecutor does not use it all too often, but he has managed to get enough information to try and get his hands on such a model.

It did cost him a fortune, but he has not and still does not care. He is almost done painting the thing, including Cor’s very own license plates, but he is running out of time. And since nobody needs to know about this, he had to make sure that his sister is not at home, which he achieved by giving the girls free cinema tickets.

With the flat being quiet and empty he takes his time to finish the model with care, making it the perfect copy of the prosecutor’s car. Once he is done, he turns it, beholding it closely from all sides before he puts it down again with a smile. He can only hope that Cor would like it.

A glance at the clock tells him, that he should better hurry unless he wants his sister to come back before everything is properly packed. Humming softly, he gets up to get some wrapping paper with Christmas motifs on it and a small card on which he neatly writes Cor’s name. After packing he clears away the paint, brushes, and other utensils as if he just had a boring evening at home.

Cor had his own quarrels to find a proper present for Nyx. He was really surprised he was drawn as secret Santa for the private detective. It felt a bit strange, especially since they already met occasionally or for a simple cup of coffee between trials.

Since he had taken a liking to the detective, or better, more than just that, he of course had to get the perfect gift. Or even better, something that might give a hint on his true feelings for Nyx. He might not be fully aware of them yet, but deep down he knows that there is more to that.

So, he spends his free time, mainly the evenings and nights at home to avoid Regis and Clarus catch wind of it, with research for a suitable present. It takes a while but then he finds what might transport the intended message quite well: incense sticks, usually used by Galahdians to burn and perfume the room before a date with a loved one.

Getting these proves a bit trickier than thought but eventually he gets a hold of what he is looking for, along with some nice gift-wrapping paper and a few additional sweet treats. At home he tries his best to get the present at least acceptably wrapped and the card with Nyx’s name strapped on it with some gift ribbon.

The party has been quite stiff and formal so far. Everyone from and around the judiciary is around, but all festive decoration is not enough to create the right mood. Although the food is rather good, and the drinks help a bit there are surely better parties to attend. This year’s secret Santa event is probably the only thing that keeps people from leaving early.

Nyx leans against a wall, a glass of mulled wine in his hands – that’s the most drinkable beverage they serve anyway, trying to keep his nervousness at bay. From time to time, he casts a glance at his sister, Crowe and Aranea who are standing not far from them, or Libertus who is busy talking to some people or he secretly observes Cor when nobody is watching.

Cor stands not far away together with Regis, Clarus and some others from the court offices. Whether he is aware of Nyx’s glances or may cast one or the other short glance to the private detective is not really visible. So far, he keeps up a neutral composure, courteously laughing on jokes and nipping at a glass of wine.

Luche on the other hand found himself a place far enough away to be left alone but close enough he does not have to walk too far to get the present. He does not seem like he really wants to be here, nor be bothered by anyone. The glass with eggnog he holds since the beginning of the event in hand, very occasionally nipping at it, he waits for it all to be over.

“They’ll hand out the presents soon, anyone excited yet?” Tredd inquires as he comes back with a new drink, looking at his friends. "I think they do." Pelna nods, standing next to Nyx, with a glass of mulled wine as well. "I wouldn't call it excitement exactly." He adds. "Although it probably is the funniest part of this occasion." The black haired adds.

Nyx just shrugs, trying to look unimpressed. Tredd rolls his eyes. “Come on, afterwards we can finally leave and get some decent beer and a real party!” he tries to cheer the others up. Pelna nods eagerly. "That sounds like a decent plan. Some real fun, once this farce is over."

Nyx grins slightly. “A bar in Little Galahd?” he asks, taking a sip from his glass. “Of course, we know how to celebrate!” Tredd agrees, giving Pelna a questioning look. "Yes, what else?" The black-haired answers as if it were the most normal thing in the world, which to them it surely is.

A little later one of the organizers comes to a desk to distribute the respective presents. The recipients are called one after the other to pick them up. When it is Tredd’s turn he grins widely, shuffling to the desk to go and grab it.

Nyx takes a sip of his mulled wine, waiting to be called himself. “I wonder what poor guy had to get his present.” He mumbles jokingly, glancing at Pelna from the side. The black-haired officer chuckles. "Let's hope it's no one who has any kind of grudge our litte nuisance here." He giggles, his eyes following Tredd. Of course, Luche is close enough to see when the redhead is called out. The blonde's eyes follow him over the rim of his glass while Tredd grabs his gift.

With the present in his hands, Tredd returns to his friends, shooting Luche an unobtrusive gaze while he passes him. Once he is back with Nyx and Pelna again, he tugs at the wrapping curiously. Nyx is still grinning, but he keeps quiet, observing Tredd’s doing.

The redhead produces a box out of the wrapping, and from there he takes a mug in the shape of a cute fire-bomb, which lets him grin even more. “Heh, someone likes me!” he proclaims, turning a bit so he can cast an interested look into the room to see if anyone might give away something.

"Or just wants to hint about your temper." Pelna counters grinning. Luche still keeps a neutral to very distanced expression, not giving away anything. As well as probably no one else in the room does. Tredd blinks and whirls around again to stare at Pelna. “Are you implying something?” he wants to know, while Nyx is called.

The detective puts his glass aside and leaves the two to themselves for a moment to get his present. "Well, you are a bit short tempered sometimes." Pelna shrugs, still a grin on his face. “Pah, I’m perfectly fine the way I am, and bombs are damn cute!” Tredd pouts, crossing his arms, the mug still in his hand.

When Nyx's name is called out, Cor casts occasional unobtrusive glances over to him, trying to follow the detective to see his reaction on the gift. Nyx takes his gift, walking back to his friends. “Hey, no arguing, it’s Christmas after all.” He reminds them while unwrapping his package. "You know us, we never really argue." Pelna replies, casting another grinning glance at Tredd.

The content lets the detective blink a few times before a soft blush spreads over his cheeks. He tries to hide the incense sticks from his friends, carefully observing the room. Whoever got this either had no idea at all, although it would be questionable how they got their hands on it in that case, or they knew exactly what this meant, which makes it all the more fascinating who that someone might be.

“Hey, what did you get?" the black-haired asks, craning his neck to catch a glimpse of Nyx's present. Out of the corner of his eye Cor still casts glances over to the private detective. The blushing of Nyx's cheeks lets the corners of his mouth twitch, so he quickly hides behind his own glass with eggnog.

“Yeah, let me see!” Tredd requests, reaching out to snatch the package away, just to chuckle in amusement when he sees what it is. “Woohooo, our friend heregot himself an admirer!” he teases, showing the incense sticks to Pelna. “Shut the fuck up!” Nyx growls, quickly gripping the present to tuck it away safely. “And don’t tell my sister!” he adds, rubbing his face with one hand.

Pelna cackles in amusement seeing the contents of Nyx’s gift. "Seems like that." He giggles, bursting into laughter as Nyx puts the present away as quickly as possible. "Nah, don't worry. We still want to have you around in one piece and not torn up by your sister’s curiosity." He adds, slapping Nyx on the shoulder.

Nyx makes a face, blinking again, his eyes meeting Cor’s for a split second. Then it is Luche’s turn to receive his package which Tredd watches with interest. Cor's expression does not change visibly when their eyes meet, although one might think a spark lit up for that very moment in the prosecutor's eyes. But it could also just be the light in the room.

Luche gets up, putting away his glass. He looks like he wants to get over with the whole thing quickly, snatching the present and instantly walking back to his seat. There he puts it on the table, staring at it as if it is supposed to start unwrapping itself or disappear or whatever. Since nothing of this happens, he sighs and starts to remove the wrapping.

Tredd blinks slightly, trying not to be caught watching. In Luches package is a fluffy, blue pillow with a bright green cactuar on it. It is large enough to be cuddled but small enough to make a nice decoration on the couch.

Luche stares at the cushion, blinking. For a moment he looks like being torn between slapping his forehand with the palm of his hand and irritated laughing. He does neither, just regains his neutral composure and stores in a messenger bag he brought with him. Grabbing his glass again, he casually looks around. Maybe he really tries to see if someone gives away a hint. Or maybe he just tries to ignore it all again.

Nyx shakes his head when Luche does not want to unpack his present and then chuckles when he finally reveals its content. “Not unfitting, I’d say.” He giggles softly. "Why is he even here, when he obviously does not want to participate?" Pelna shakes his head, joining into the giggling when the gift’s content is revealed. "Another good assumption of character, I suppose." He agrees in amusement.

“Definitely.” Nyx grins. “He’s not all that bad.” Tredd mutters, trying to look innocent. “Nah, just a bit prickly and spiky and dry.” Nyx replies dryly and with a sly smirk. "And distanced, if not to say cold." Pelna adds. "Yes, color and motif are very fitting." He nods again.

Tredd just shrugs. He does not want to risk anyone finding out that he has a thing for the blonde. Eventually Cor is next to receive his gift. Cor casually walks over to receive his gift, already curiously eyeing the packaging. Once back at his place, he carefully starts to unwrap it.

Nyx holds his breath while he does his best to look as unsuspicious as possible. Out of the corner of his eye he squints over at Cor, observing his reactions closely. Tredd puts his mug back into its box and stores it in his bag carefully. Still wondering who might have gotten that for him he casts a glance at Axis who seems to be occupied with Sonitus and Drautos, then shakes his head slightly.

Cor’s eyes widen in surprise when he pulls out a precise model of his car, very detailed and even with his own license plates on it. He carefully studies the model admiring the work and care that went into assembling and painting it. A smile spreads over his face while he stores it in its box again. When he looks around his gaze lingers a moment longer on Nyx than on anyone else.

Nyx returns the look for a fleeting moment before he averts his eyes. When he tries to take another sip he notices that his glass is already empty, so he nods at his friends, holding the glass up a bit to signal that he is just going to get a new one. Somehow, he is quite glad to have a moment on his own. Cor seemed happy, didn’t he? The surprise went well, or not?

The detective tries to calm the thoughts that are whirling around in his head, staring at the offered beverage for a moment. Cor's eyes follow Nyx as he walks over to the beverages. Pretending he wants to get himself something new as well, he strolls over to the private detective.

Standing next to Nyx Cor glances over to him. "Care for a little walk?" He asks plainly and casually, while waiting for his glass to be refilled. Nyx almost jerks when Cor suddenly appears next to him. He turns his head, blinking a few times as he looks at the prosecutor.

For a moment it seems like he didn’t hear the other man’s questions, but then his lips curl into a soft smile and he nods slightly. Thanks to his nervousness he even forgot that he wanted to grab a new drink.

"Don't forget your drink." Cor smiles and hands Nyx his refilled glass. "Let’s walk a few steps, yes?" He adds nodding towards the door. "Some things shouldn't be discussed publicly." Cor winks and starts to slowly walk towards said door.

“Erm…” Nyx takes his glass, grinning a bit sheepishly. “Yeah.” He nods again, taking a sip and swallowing hard, before he approaches the door walking next to the prosecutor. Maybe he found out who was behind the car? Or about his feelings, and now he wants to tell him that they are not mutual? The detective shakes his head and grabs his glass more firmly. The spiral of his thoughts really is no big help at the moment.

"And maybe, you shouldn't forget to breathe either." Cor smiles again. It is a warm and friendly smile. He opens the door, passes through it, holding it open for Nyx to follow him. "Let's see, where we can find us a nice place, maybe a bit further down the aisle." The prosecutor suggests, taking a sip from his mulled wine. "That was an interesting idea, no? Organizing Secret Santa event for the judiciary and legislative employees?"

Nyx attempts to say something but instead squints at Cor questioningly. He takes a deep breath, seriously pondering if Cor could have noticed him holding his breath as well for a moment, before he inwardly rolls his eyes about himself. Eventually he decides to drop the topic, pointing around a corner instead. Cor nodds approvingly, then walks into that direction.

“That should be far enough, I guess.” The detective mutters, shrugging slightly. “Well, it’s the best thing they came up with this year. I already liked to play secret Santa when I was a kid.” He adds with a crooked grin.

Cor glances over to Nyx, a soft smile on his lips. "Yeah, I can imagine. That suits you somehow." He nods, stopping once they reached the corner. "That model of my car. That's from you, am I right?" He asks directly, looking at Nyx, still with that soft smile on his lips and that spark one could have seen in his eyes earlier.

With a smile of his own Nyx returns the gaze, leaning against the wall in a poor attempt to seem relaxed. He tries to fight the hint of a new blush that slowly starts creeping up his neck at Cor’s first words, holding his glass in both hands. The direct questions catches him a bit off guard, causing him tolook trapped for a moment.

“Was it that obvious?” the detective counters quietly, biding some time to think of a proper answer. "Well, I am not a prosecutor by chance." Cor winks. "Well, I added up things. The rising number of our occasional, and then not so occasional meetings. And, I know your observation skills, so, it wasn't that hard to guess." He sums up how he came to this conclusion. "It is a wonderful present. I like it very much. Thank you." Cor adds, in a very warm tone, the timbre of his voice a bit deeper and softer than usual.

Nyx swallows again, losing the fight against the soft blush spreading over his cheeks more with every word Cor says. His heart starts pounding heavily in his chest, and he is almost sure that the prosecutor must hear it too by now. The sound of Cor’s voice sends soft shivers down his spine, and it takes him a good amount of self-control to not fiddle around with his glass.

For a moment Nyx stares at the tips of his shoes, then he lifts his head again, looking directly at the other man. “The incense sticks, that… was you.” He concludes then, a warm and loving gleam in his blue eyes.

Cor hides a chuckle as he becomes aware of Nyx blushing again, but leaves it uncommented. "Yes, that was me." He nods. "I..." He clears his throat. "Well, I found that I enjoy our not so occasional meetings. And... that I'd like to have more of those. Not necessarily only for a cup of coffee. So I had to find something that makes it clear but not for anyone to understand too easily." He explains, the soft spark in his eyes glowing stronger and warmer.

“It really means a lot to me.” Nyx says softly, his lips curling into a bright smile that easily spreads over his face and reaches his eyes as Cor continues speaking. Making sure that nobody has followed them, he casts a quick glance over his shoulder, then looks at the other man again. “I wanted to ask you for a proper date for a while now.” He tells him then.

“I enjoy being with you just as much. More than that, your presence almost feels like coming home. You accept me the way I am, and you’ve never judged me for anything.” The detective adds, seemingly a lot more confident now.

"I couldn't be as good in my job as I am if I were as prejudicial as many others here in Insomnia." Cor smiles. "What about we discuss plans for a 'real' date while I walk you home? I'm sure everyone should have their presents by now and the whole event come to an end. And... before someone catches a hint, we should head back and get our stuff." He suggests, taking a sip from his glass.

“True.” Nyx chuckles slightly. “You have left a lasting impression on me the first time I saw you in court.” He mumbles, tilting his head a bit to the side. “Walking me home? You know where I live, yes?” he inquires, taking a sip of his own.

"Not the precise address, but yes I am aware of where you live." Cor nods. "And I don't mind accompanying you on your way home." Adding this, he already turns back towards the event to get their jackets.

“Good, I just wanted to make sure you know what you signed up for.” Nyx answers and nods, following Cor back into the hall. There he takes another sip of his glass, leaving it at one of the tables for empty dishes before he takes a cautious look around the room. Avoiding his friends or his sister to prevent curious questions he fetches his jacket and gets ready to leave.

Cor leaves his glass on one of these tables as well. Luckily, he can get jacket and bag, where he stored the car, without having to answer curious question as everybody is currently busy with getting ready to leave and get home. He waves a quick goodbye, then walks outside as inconspicuously as possible. Outside the building he stands a bit aside so no one would directly see him, unless he is looking for the prosecutor, waiting to leave with Nyx.
Once Nyx snuck outside, he keeps an eye out for Cor, immediately approaching him once he found the prosecutor. “Here I am.” He announces with a sly grin, turning into the proper direction. “Subway or walking?” he wants to know, obviously fine with either of the two.

"After being in a stuffy room most of the evening, I don't mind walking." Cor replies, breathing in the cool winter air. He folds up the collar of his coat, to additionally protect his neck against the cold wind, although he does not look as if he was freezing.

Nyx chuckles slightly, walking next to Cor. “I thought you were used to it by now.” He teases, looking at the prosecutor every once in a while, while he looks quite happy himself.

Cor shrugs. "Just because I am used to it, I don't have to like it all the time. Also, it is a big difference if it is a court room or such an event." He explains, stuffing his hands into his coat's pocket, seeming very content himself. It does not take long, and they are out of sight and earshot from the event location.

Nyx shoves his hands into his jacket’s pockets as well, taking a deep breath as they disappear into the night. “I guess we’re safe now.” He says, sounding a bit amused. Luckily, he has muted all sounds on his phone, so whoever might try to reach him would have to wait until tomorrow.

The prosecutor casts a glance over his shoulder. "Yes, we probably are." He nods, turning to Nyx with a soft smile on his lips. His phone beeps every now and again for the occasional message but Cor is obviously pretty good in ignoring those. "So, a date... Any suggestions?" He asks directly, slightly inclining his head.

Nyx hums in agreement as he leads Cor towards Little Galahd. Without using the subway, they would have a good way to walk, but it is dark and those who are still out on the streets probably don’t care for two people on their way home. “We have nice bars and restaurants in Little Galahd, and the people there don’t care for our social status.” The detective mutters, giving Cor a wink. “But I could also cook us some curry and we can spend a nice evening, just the two of us.” He offers then.

"This may come as a surprise, but I am not exactly the bar going type." Cor winks with a slight grin. "Restaurants are nice but..." He sways his head. "I like the idea of spending a nice evening at home. I could bring something to drink?" He suggests after a few moments.

Nyx chuckles slightly. “Spending some time at a bar with friends is actually quite nice, plus it’s a good offset for long and uneventful observations.” He explains with a crooked grin. “And if I wouldn’t go voluntarily my friends would drag me out anyway.” He adds, smiling on Cor’s suggestion. “That sounds nice. I’ll just have to make sure that my sister is not around, or else everybody would know within minutes.”

"I get the idea but that really isn't for me. After a day at the court, I had enough people around me. Plus, I am seeing my friends at work most of the time, so I am actually glad, when I can finally spend some time on my own." Cor explains. "I see." He nods with a slight grin. "It wouldn't be good, if anyone knew, in any case." He adds, a hint of seriousness in his voice.

Nyx shrugs slightly. “As long as I can take you out for a coffee every once in a while, I’m fine with that.” He murmurs, snorting right after. “My friends would never leak such delicate information to anyone who’d use it against us, but my sister is… another thing. Don’t get me wrong, she wouldn’t do that either, but she’s so very curious and she’d tell our mother and…” he does not finish the sentence, just sighs audibly.

"I know, mine wouldn't either. But there would be consequences for our cases and... others. A prosecutor is not exactly the most favored person." Cor answers. "Yeah, the right of the younger sibling." He grins. "You don’t want your mother and your sister to jump to any conclusions?"

Laughing Nyx runs a hand through his hair. “Don’t think that sticking your nose into other people’s matters makes you any more popular.” He replies, shaking his head. “Nah, that’s not what I meant. But they’d be all over the place wanting to get to know you and do all the family stuff together.” He explains with a shrug.

Cor chuckles slightly. "Maybe not. But condemning someone to a certain sentence or even not doing so brings a lot of negative attention. The one or other nickname I got over the time might not be that far from the truth." He shrugs slightly. "I wouldn't mind the family stuff." He answers, turning to Nyx to look at him with a soft smile. "I mean, yes, first of all I want to get to know you better and spend time with you alone." Cor’s voice has this warm and soft timbre again.

“I don’t even feel bad about keeping you selfishly to myself, at least for a while.” Nyx mumbles, cautiously looking around before he pulls a handout of his pocket to link his arm with Cor’s.

Cor chuckles again. "Oh, I don't mind that either." He nods his agreement. Something warm lights up in his eyes as Nyx decides to tuck his arm into his own. "So, what shall I bring to drink for our date?" He asks, adjusting his arm a bit so Nyx is pulled a bit closer to him.

Nyx does not mind being pulled closer, on the contrary, he enjoys the new kind of closeness, inconspicuously moving a little closer himself. A loving smile graces his lips, and his heart begins to beat faster again. He would close his eyes if he wasn’t walking right now. “Hm…” he hums thoughtfully, “A wine maybe? Whatever you like best, I’m fine with anything. And in the worst case we’d still have Galahdian beer.” He mutters then.

Cor ponders for a moment. "Although I don't mind beer, I think for this occasion wine is the better choice. I'm sure, I'll find something nice that goes well with a curry." He decides with a short glance at Nyx.

Nyx nods, obviously satisfied. For a moment he walks in silence, then shudders slightly. “It’s damn cold.” He states, blinking a few times. “Can you smell that, too?” he suddenly wants to know, seemingly out of context.

"Shall I warm you a bit?" Cor murmurs, casting a quick glance around. Satisfied that no one seems to be near or at least bothering, he slides the arm Nyx has tucked himself in, around the detective’s waist. The question lets him blink a few times in irritation, drawing a deep breath. "Except for cold air, nothing, no." He answers.

Nyx blushes again, glad that the night is too dark for it to be seen. When Cor slides an arm around him he does the same, sighing contently at the warmth the other man radiates. “It’s going to snow soon.” He says then. “Just like an approaching thunderstorm you can smell the upcoming snow. The air is clear and icy and there is a special freshness in it, even in the city.” He explains, giving Cor a warm smile.

"Hmm..." The prosecutor ponders for a moment, drawing in a few breaths again. "I never paid attention to that. But now, that you're saying it..." Cor replies. "There certainly is something different about the air." He nods. "That's fascinating." Some portion of amazement swings in his voice as well as the pleasure of learning a new interesting detail.

“See?” Nyx retorts excitedly. “In Galahd we learn to pay close attention to our environment and nature. Besides it is good to know if a thunderstorm is approaching. On the islands it can happen pretty fast and seemingly out of the blue, and you wouldn’t want to be outside, not to mention out in the jungle if you can avoid it.” He explains, lifting his gaze a bit to look at the sky.

Cor listens closely, honest interest displayed on his face. "That's very interesting." He states. "Maybe something helpful even here in the city, even though we can find shelter faster than in the jungle." He ponders. "I see there is much I could learn from you, apart from maybe how to cook curry." He winks in amusement, warm affection in his voice.

“The curry is the only thing I’m really good at if it comes to cooking, Libertus is the chef among us, but instead of further cooking lessons I’ll gladly teach you how to curse properly.” Nyx replies laughing, snuggling up to Cor a little as he walks.

Cor slides his arm a bit more around Nyx, wrapping it firmly around the other man to warm him, and himself, while walking. "I can't cook much." He smiles. "Mainly things that are made quickly and can be eaten while working. So, this will be an all new experience." He chuckles.
“I have a little sister who learned all the nifty cooking skills from our mother.” Nyx hums with a grin. “You know that is not supposed to be healthy, eating while working, I mean?” he adds, wrapping his own arm a bit tighter around the prosecutor in return.

"I know that. But I don't always have the time to let work rest." He states. "I have a decent lunch every day. Anything else has to fit in somehow. As you know, we have more than enough cases and trials at our hands." Cor adds, sighing quietly.

“Nah.” Nyx shakes his head decisively. “You just need someone to take care of you.” He contradicts, turning his head so that he can observe Cor better.
"There certainly are people who care but well... their goodwill is sometimes more annoying than anything else." The prosecutor chuckles quietly. "Depends on the care, I guess." Cor sways his head a bit, looking over to Nyx, slight mischief in his eyes.

Nyx grins slyly. “Well, proper food, coffee, a thorough massage when you come home to release tension, some cuddling…” Nyx whispers, an innocent expression on his face. “I might have a few more ideas, if I get the time to try them out.” He adds, grinning even wider.

"Mhm." Cor sounds like pondering the ideas with a slight grin. A grin that widens over Nyx’s innocent expression. "That sounds really tempting. I might be very inclined to make good use of all of that." A mischievous spark lights up in his eyes. "And I might even find some more time to return the favors." He adds whispering.

“Yeah, you should.” Nyx whispers, resting his head on Cor’s shoulder for a moment. Since it is not that comfortable while walking, he raises his head quite quickly again. “But seriously, you have a demanding job, and you work pretty much, even outside court, to look into cases or prepare trials, you probably drink too much coffee over the day too, you should at least see to it that you eat regularly or at least leave work alone meanwhile.” He says calmly and with a warm and caring undertone in his voice.

"Objection. I don't drink that much coffee. And I leave work for lunch every day." Cor counters with a grin. "But you do have a point here. It's not like I have much reason to interrupt work." He turns to look at Nyx. "Or should I say, I had...?" He adds softly.

Nyx chuckles softly. “We’re not in court, Cor. I can assure you that here all your charisma does not work on me, at least not if it comes to matters of your well-being.” He answers, giving Cor a warm but stern look before he smiles affectionately. “You had.” He confirms, looking relaxed and happy by now.

Then suddenly there’s a hint of regret in his eyes, if only for a split second, as they walk through the streets of Little Galahd, approaching a building that has surely seen better days.

Cor looks around while they keep on walking, not too openly and curiously, though. "I've never been much to these parts of the city." He states calmly. "Never had much reason to be here." He looks over to Nyx. "But I am sure that might soon change."

“It is far nicer over here than it looks.” Nyx replies with a smile, “Especially during one of our festivities.” Taking a deep breath he stops, turning so that he can look at Cor directly. “I’m afraid we have reached our destination, though.” He says softly.

"That is one thing I need to confirm for myself." Cor winks at Nyx. "Have we?" Cor looks at the building that obviously is the one Nyx lives in. "Well, that means goodbye for tonight." He turns towards Nyx without letting him go. "But before I go, we haven't set a day for our date yet. We should do that before I leave. Any suggestions?"

Nyx sighs softly. “Yes, and yes.” He mumbles quietly, sneaking his free arm around Cor as well, looking rather unhappy about the fact. “Tomorrow…” he almost whines then, nuzzling his face into Cor’s chest.

Cor wraps the other arm around Nyx, holding him closely and resting his face in Nyx’s hair for a moment. "Hmm...Well, then tomorrow it is." He answers softly, sneaking one hand under Nyx’s chin, to tenderly pull up his face. "And when shall I be here?" He asks with that soft, warm timbre that vibrates in his chest and in his voice, looking directly into Nyx’s eyes.

Nyx closes his eyes, only opening them again when Cor’s fingers touch his chin. He blinks, following the other man’s movement and lifts his head to return the gaze, almost melting away under it. Cors voice makes him shiver slightly. “Five?” he asks, his own voice a bit shaky as he moves even closer, their lips just about to touch.

"Five is just fine." Cor answers in a voice so soft and low that it is merely audible but can be felt vibrating of his chest and throat, his fingers remain under Nyx’s chin. For a moment he just looks at the other man’s face and into his eyes a loving sparkle in his own. Then he just pulls him closer, closing the gap between their lips, softly brushing his against Nyx’s before bowing down a bit to place his lips firmly yet tenderly on the other man's lips.

Shuddering slightly Nyx digs his fingers into Cor’s jacket, holding him tight. Slowly, he closes his eyes when their lips meet, returning the kiss softly. For the moment, he does not take note of his environment, nor the thick and fluffy snowflakes that start to fall and dance around them.

Cor lets his fingers glide softly from Nyx’s chin over his cheek into the hair. He is also not aware of the falling snow. Too much does he indulge the moment, their kiss. Lowering his eyelids, a bit, he pulls Nyx a bit closer tightening his embrace and intending to intensify their kiss.

Leaning into the touch Nyx tilts his head a bit. Cor’s fingers send even more pleasant shivers down his spine. Removing one hand from the other man’s jacket he lets it trail up his back and into his neck as well, slowly parting his lips to deepen the kiss and welcome Cor’s tongue with his own. In his chest his heart is racing, and he is almost certain that Cor must notice it as well.

Cor shivers slightly feeling Nyx’s fingers trailing up to his neck. He slides his own hand deeper into Nyx’s hair, softly carding through it, gladly entangling Nyx’s tongue into a tender dance, while he closes his eyes completely. His heart pounds heavily in his chest. Quietly sighing into the kiss, he pauses for a short moment to catch some breath, only to continue right afterwards.

Somewhere a window is opened and the lines of a song, one of these that can be heard on many occasions during the holiday season: ‘When we finally kiss goodnight, How I'll hate going out in the storm, but if you'll really hold me tight All the way home, I'll be warm...’ Cor is unaware of their surroundings though, still caught up in and enjoying the kiss and the closeness.

Totally oblivious to the world Nyx melts into the kiss. He takes a deep breath when he gets the chance before he eagerly kisses Cor again, unable to file a clear thought. The only thing he knows for sure is that he does not want to let go of the other man just yet.

Cor obviously feels the same. He pulls Nyx as close as possible, only curtly catching his breath, not letting go of the other man. If it were not for the snow fall getting heavier and the air getting colder, they might have stayed even longer. But at some point, Cor reluctantly breaks the kiss, although still holding Nyx close.

The prosecutor opens his eyes looking directly into Nyx’s eyes, a warm loving glow in them. After a moment he realizes the snow that covers their shoulders and hair with a soft chuckle. "As much as I would like to continue, I don't want to end up as a snow statue. I'm afraid I have to leave you now." He whispers softly, lifting one hand to caress Nyx cheek.

Nyx opens his eyes as well as the kiss has ended, returning Cor’s gaze with just as much emotion in it. He honestly does not care for the snow, although Cor is right about one thing; It is damn cold and if they keep going like this, they’re sure to freeze. Sighing deeply, he pulls the other man very close again, leaning his face into the touch.

“That would be the sensible thing to do, yes.” He whispers back, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “And I’m truly tempted to be unreasonable at this very moment, but well… Being sick tomorrow of all times would be way worse, I guess.” He adds, resting his forehead against the other man’s for a moment.

"It would be. And it would delay our date. We certainly don't want that." Cor answers softly, pulling Nyx close for a last embrace. "I'll be seeing you tomorrow." Reluctantly he lets go of the other man, placing a last tender kiss on his lips before he steps back. "Good night and sleep well." He wishes Nyx, then turns slowly to walk to the next subway station.

Hesitantly Nyx lets go of Cor, returning the last, soft kiss with a warm smile. “You, too.” He whispers, raising a hand to wave before the prosecutor turns around. With another deep sigh he follows the other man with his gaze until he disappears around a corner. Still smiling softly and feeling pleasantly warm inside he turns around himself to finally enter the building.

“What, that’s it?” Tredd wants to know once Nyx has ended, grinning mischievously. “I mean, you really went home alone that night?” Aranea chuckles. “As if you had more luck!” she interjects, causing Crowe to giggle as well. “As if.” She agrees, grabbing her glass to take a good sip. Libertus snorts. “I’m both, impressed and a little offended that you managed to keep this a secret for so long!” he grumbles accusingly.

"So, you did burn the incense that evening! I can't believe you didn't tell me!" Selena sounds slightly upset. "And then kept it a secret so long after that. I'm your sister!" She adds all acting the disgruntled little sister. "Yeah, so that explains where you disappeared to that evening." Pelna shakes his head. "But what about you?" He adds turning to Tredd.

Nyx chuckles in amusement, snuggling up to Cor on the couch. “Yeah, I burned the incense sticks, it wasn’t one of our neighbors.” He admits, still grinning. “Fortunately, I didn’t have to bribe you with cinema tickets or something, as you generously left the flat to me that evening.” He adds, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

“But my intuition was correct back then." Selena insists. "Yeah, lucky you, I had better things to do." She grins, looking fondly at Crowe. "But that explains why you didn't catch a hint. You were busy yourself." Nyx’s sister concludes. Cor just smiles, wrapping his arm a bit closer around Nyx shoulders.

Turning towards Tredd, Nyx tilts his head to the side. “Yeah, what’s with you? How was your night back then, if you have such a big mouth again?” he inquires. Aranea snorts. “Lonely as ever till that poor fool showed mercy.” She states dryly, nodding at Luche.

"Whom do you call a fool?" The blonde retorts. "I think, she meant you." Selena chuckles. "Tsk." Luche shakes his head. "Keep behaving like that and I might feel inclined not to share the story." He grumbles. "Not telling means singing for you." Pelna grins widely. "So, if you prefer caroling with us, keep it to yourself." He adds causing the blonde to excessively roll his eyes. "That's still blackmailing, but okay." He yields.

“You should know us by now.” Nyx remarks, looking at Tredd expectantly afterwards. “Don’t look at me like that! I’m serious, no exaggerating!” he claims. Monica smiles softly. “Well then go ahead so we can judge by ourselves.” She requests. “Yeah, and don’t think that we couldn’t find out if you’re making up things or not.” Aranea adds grinning.

“Bah, having you as friends one does not need enemies.” Tredd groans, shaking his head. “You or me?” he addresses Luche then. "Nah, you love us, and you know it." Pelna chuckles. The blonde shrugs. "Go ahead, if you want to." He answers. "No no, that's not the deal!" The black-haired officer interjects. "If you want to escape singing, you have to tell the story." Pelna looks expectantly at Luche.

"Gods, why did I open the door?" The blonde moans, rubbing his face with both hands and runs them through his hair. "I'm not a good storyteller..." He starts. "So, I'm saying as much. If Crowe had not entered me on that Secret Santa list, I would never have participated and..." Luche turns to Tredd, a hint of a smile on his lips for a moment. "You would probably have had to spent much more time in convincing me." He adds. "The rest is up to you to tell."

Tredd chuckles slightly. “Seriously, as if I didn’t try every possible approach already back then.” He mumbles, shaking his head. Crowe giggles in amusement. “You’re welcome!” she states, seemingly quite satisfied with herself. Libertus rolls his eyes. “Stop dragging this out, spit it out already or it’s caroling for everyone!” he says, crossing his arms.

“You know that none of us minds, except him.” Laughing, Nyx points at Luche. “Shut it, I want to hear it anyway!” Aranea complains. “You’re even more curious than all of us together.” Crowe claims, shaking her head again.

“Alright, alright.” Tredd sighs. “After Nyx disappeared, I wanted to grab a snack, you know, for the way,” he starts, causing everyone to laugh merrily. Rolling his eyes he ignores it and keeps going. “On the way to the buffet I noticed that Luche tried to sneak off without telling anyone, so I didn’t have the time to inform anyone when I decided to follow him.”

* * * * *

His glass of eggnog drained eventually, the cushion shoved into his bag, Luche surely has enough of this. Since Crowe is still busy chatting, he grabs the chance to make his disappearance. That was absolutely enough suffering for one evening, especially during a season that is full of that kind of events.

The blonde grabs his messenger bag, puts on his coat, and leaves the room without any further goodbyes. Outside he ponders for a moment whether to take the subway home or walk, soon deciding on the latter after an evening inside.

Following Luche with his gaze Tredd grumbles quietly. So much for a snack for the way. Casting a glance over his shoulder he decides that he lacks the time to go and say goodbye and rather rushes after Luche to catch a glimpse of where he is going. Obviously not to the closest subway station, so he follows him with a bit of distance for now, planning his next move.

The blonde walks down the street in a moderate tempo. He is not in a hurry but does not idle around either. The collar of his coat is folded up to protect his neck against the cold wind and his hands stuffed into the pockets of his coat. Luche does not look around much and so he does not become aware of Tredd following him.

Trying to come up with something smart to say Tredd ponders but soon gives up on it. Instead, he speeds up his steps a bit to catch up to the blonde. “Hey Lu!” he greets him with a wide grin, one hand on the strap of his bag containing the mug he got.

Luche does not stop or slow down, just glances over to the redhead. "I can't remember allowing you to call me that." He states dryly, his gaze turning back to the street ahead. “Well, maybe not, but…” Tredd grins again, “I like it much better.” He states, easily keeping step with the blonde.

"But I don't." Luche retorts, shaking his head. "Just because my name can be shortened, there's no need to do so." Tredd turns his head, so he can look at Luche directly. “Aww come on, don’t be that stiff!” he mutters. Apparently, he does not intend to leave him in peace anytime soon.

"I am not stiff." The blonde grumbles. "Do you want anything?" He asks since the redhead obviously does not intend to leave him alone. “You are.” Tredd retorts, “And yes.” He nods, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Luche does not even try to suppress the sigh. "What is it?" He wants to know, although it sounds as if he already has a good guess on what Tredd wants. The redhead takes a deep breath then sighs as well. “You know, the party has been quite boring and… it is Christmas, and we all have some time on our hands, and… burying yourself at home alone isn’t exactly how to spend the holidays and… well…” he shrugs. “I thought I’d ask you for a date instead.”

"What a surprise." Luche sighs again. "Let me count, how often did you ask me now?" He turns his head to look at Tredd. Doing so he catches a glimpse of some Christmas decoration, including a mistletoe. If they keep on walking, they will soon reach it.

Tredd huffs. “Twenty-four times in six months.” He answers truthfully, totally unaware of said mistletoe. “But you know, it’s Christmas, and I thought that maybe the spirits listen to my prayers for once.” He mumbles, sighing once more.

Luche slowly shakes his head. "Did you really count?" He sighs, looking back ahead. Spotting the mistletoe, the corners of his mouth twitch slightly as if suppressing a grin. “Yeah.” Tredd admits, slouching his shoulders a bit.

"Although I still don't know what Christmas has to do with all this..." The blonde stops, seemingly out of the blue, but in truth right under the mistletoe, and turns, to look directly at Tredd. The lights of the decoration reflect in his ice-blue eyes adding a soft shine to them.

Luche steps closer, reaching out for Tredd’s coat to grab it and pull the redhead closer. "But if you promise to stop asking afterwards..." He does not continue to speak, nor does he wait for an answer, just closing the gap between them, to simply kiss Tredd.

Still not noticing the mistletoe the redhead almost bumps into Luche when he suddenly stops. He blinks a few times, returning the other man’s gaze in slight irritation. “What?” he wants to know before his eyes widen as he is pulled closer and kissed unceremoniously. At first, he is far too shocked by the sudden change of events to even react properly.

Once his mind actually processed what is happening right now, he blinks, throwing his arms around the blonde to hold him tightly, gladly kissing him back. Luche’s grip softens as does the expression on his face. Letting go of the redhead's coat, he wraps his arms around him.

Lowering his eyelids, a bit the blonde shuts out the light’s reflection, showing that the warm shimmer in his eyes does not come from them but from what he feels deep inside. There is some faint longing in the kiss, something that was held back but is now finally released.

Tredd closes his eyes, melting into the embrace as he parts his lips, intending to deepen the kiss with passion, one hand dug into the fabric of Luche’s coat, the other one sneaking up into the blonde hair. Still caught by surprise he puts all his feelings into the kiss, his heart pounding heavily in his chest.

Luche gladly accepts the invitation, affectionately nudging Tredd's tongue to invite it to a passionate dance. The other man's fingers in his hair let him sigh into the kiss, wrapping his arms tighter around the redhead to pull him even closer. Giving into the feeling all the hard-shell attitude melts away for the moment.

Following Luche’s lead Tredd melts into the kiss, a soft blush on his cheeks. Suddenly the cold seems to be gone completely and he does not even care for the falling snow. If this is a dream he never wants to wake up anymore. He has been wishing for this for so long now. Eventually he needs to break the kiss to draw few, deep breaths, blinking and looking at the blonde through dreamy eyes.

Luche's face looks different than usual. His features are relaxed, in his eyes lies a soft sparkle and he even seems to smile a bit. "It's getting cold. Fancy a drink at my place?" He asks after a few deep breaths, his expression slowly getting back to normal, except for that shimmer in his eyes and a very warm timbre in his voice.

“What… was that?” the redhead asks breathlessly, still visibly irritated, although it is pretty clear that he does not want to let go of Luche. The question leaves him even more confused. “Me…?” he inquires pointlessly, then nods hastily. “Y-yes I do!”

"I'd say that was a kiss. A pretty good one on top of that." Luche assesses dryly, with an amused tone in his voice. With a slight grin he points up to the mistletoe as an explanation. "Yes you. I can't remember anyone else asking me out as much as you did." He adds, not letting go of the redhead either.

The blush on Tredd’s cheeks deepens a little at Luche’s words, then he raises his head, staring at the mistletoe in disbelief, then back at the blonde. Finally, he just nods speechlessly, probably for the first time he does not even come up with any smart or not so smart remark.

"So that's how one can shut you up. I have to keep that in mind." Luche grins with a wink, slowly releasing his embrace. "Come, it's cold and we still have a bit to walk." He adds, about to turn and get going.

The redhead blinks again, still keeping quiet as he nods once more, slowly pulling his arms back to shove his hands into his coat’s pockets while he walks next to Luche. From time to time, he glances over at the blonde, a slight smile on his lips. “I actually thought you’d say ‘no’ again.” He mumbles eventually.

"Must be the spirit of Christmas." The blonde states. His expression is as neutral as usual. Or so it might seem. On a closer look there is a soft glow in his eyes and a smile tugging at his lips, hinting that there is more to it than just a christmassy spirit.

“So, the spirits do listen!” Tredd replies, slowly finding back to his usual self. He looks as if he is about to stick his tongue out, but obviously he has enough self-control to let it be. His eyes seem to glow happily as well. If this was a dream, he would wake up now, right?

Luche just chuckles, not replying any further. He stoves his hands back into his pockets, walking in silence. "Why me?" He asks after a while, glancing over to Tredd. The redhead shrugs slightly. “Because I like you.” He simply says, smirking slyly. “I mean, have you ever looked into a mirror?” he adds with a crooked grin. “And then I like your general attitude, your dry remarks, not giving in right away…”

Chuckling Tredd turns his head, returning Luche’s gaze directly. “And I figured that someone like me might one day be in need of a good lawyer.” He states jokingly. "I'm not hearing that often." Luche replies, then shakes his head and chuckles. "So that's the real reason. You're hoping for a personal discount." He adds, with a wink, sounding as if in good spirits.

Tredd laughs in amusement. “Of course! Who would refuse that?” he retorts, swaying his head. “But to be honest I was hoping for something more as well.” He adds innocently. "You'd be the first to get one, ever." The blonde answers. "Well, you will have to do penance for asking me so often." He replies to the suggestion of 'more', his voice close to a raspy purr from deep down.

Tredd raises an eyebrow. “Me? How about you, turning me down so often?” he inquires, moving a bit closer. “But if that means what I think it does I have no objections.” He hums with a slight blush. "Yeah you. You could have accepted the first or at least the third 'No'. " Luche chuckles, grinning widely.

"It might." The blonde adds evasively, grabbing Tredd’s hand when they pass a badly lit alley, pulling him into the shadows. There he turns, attempting to pin the redhead to the wall and kiss him passionately, pressing his body against Tredd’s. "Something like that on your mind?" He asks deviously, catching his breath after he breaks the kiss again.

“But I wanted you to be mine!” Tredd justifies his actions, blinking in surprise as Luche pulls him into the dark alley. That’s certainly not where the blonde lives as far as he can tell. When he finds himself pinned to the wall a pleasant shiver runs down his spine. Clutching at Luche’s coat he returns the kiss fervently. “Hm-hm.” He hums a bit breathlessly after that, once more a distinct blush on his cheeks and a wide grin on his lips.

"Then you'll probably enjoy your penance." Luche grins, letting go of Tredd, to leave the alley again, beckoning the redhead to follow him. "I guess, you liked that Secret Santa thing?" He asks in a casual tone, while continuing their way to his home.

The redhead purrs in delight, following Luche with a smirk. “I certainly will.” He murmurs, shoving his hands into his pockets once more. “The event as a whole or the gift I got?” he inquires once he calmed down, walking next to Luche again.

"Both? I guess?" The blonde shrugs, glancing over to Tredd again. Since he did not pay much attention back at the event, he does not know if the redhead liked the present or not. Tredd smiles softly. “Actually, it was the best thing at the whole party.” He replies, grinning right afterwards. “And yes, I like it very much.” He pauses, looking at Luche searchingly. “Did you get the mug for me?” he asks hesitantly after a while.

Luche nods. "Yes, I did. Wasn't easy to find something." The blonde explains. "It was more a shot into the blue. I remembered you have this firebomb that assists the police..." His voice trails off for a moment. "Based on that I hoped you might like it." He adds, some warm softness in his voice.

Tredd chuckles happily. “Yeah, and Cinder likes me. And my food. Or food in general.” He tells Luche and smiles again after that. “It is perfect.” He whispers then, regarding Luche with sparkling eyes. “And I hope you liked your gift. At least a little.” He adds, wiggling his eyebrows.

"That's from you?" The blonde lifts an eyebrow. "Could have guessed." He slowly shakes his head. "Well, it is not exactly what I would get for my apartment but...I can't say I dislike it." Luche adds. There is something in his voice that says he likes it much more, now that he knows from whom he got it.

Tredd glances at Luche with a beaming smile, visibly happy about the fact that the blonde likes the pillow, even if he does not fully admit it. He huffs as the snowflakes grow larger and start clinging to his face. “Is it still far?” he inquires, wiping his face with one arm.

"No, we're nearly there." Luche answers brushing snow from his hair. Indeed, they reach the building a few minutes later. It is a big building, several stories high. The blonde opens the door, letting Tredd step in and follows right after him. He lets the door fall into the lock again, while he pushes the button to call the lift.

The redhead does not really have eyes for the building right now. Meantime he can feel the freezing cold again, so he is glad to be able to flee into the inside. There, he hurries to the elevator, hoping that it wouldn’t take too long for it to arrive.

The building is well maintained so the elevator does not take long to arrive. "Are you cold?" Luche asks, stepping into the cabin. He reaches out to Tredd, intending to pull him closer. "I can see to that." He murmurs, pushing the button for the highest floor, then wraps both arms around the redhead.

Tredd nods, letting Luche pull him into the cabin and then close. He smiles happily, gladly snuggling up to the blonde. Wrapping his own arms around the other man he buries his face in the crook of Luche’s neck. The blonde is pleasantly warm, which lets the redhead shudder slightly. He sighs contently, already wishing for the elevator to take all eternity to reach the top.

Of course, it does not take all eternity to reach the top floor of the building. Luche turns his head, 'accidentally' touching Tredd’s ear with his lips. "We're there." He whispers, his warm breath brushing over the redhead's skin. Loosening his embrace, he wants to step outside the elevator’s cabin. There are only four apartments up here, the whole space nearly evenly divided among them. The blonde walks towards his apartment's door, pulling out a keycard on the way.

Shivering slightly and with an unwilling sigh Tredd straightens up again, blinking a few times. “Damn.” He curses, reluctantly letting go of Luche to follow him out of the elevator. Taking a look around he raises both eyebrows nd then whistles softly. “That seems quite exclusive.” He mumbles, squinting at the keycard.

"Not as exclusive as one might think. Prices are still reasonable." Luche answers, inserting the card into the card reader nestled into the lock of the door. A closer look at the other apartment doors shows that they don't have anything similar installed. Soft clicking sounds indicate the lock to be opened.

The blonde does not open the door immediately but waits a few moments longer before he pushes the door open. "Come in." He steps aside to let Tredd enter the antechamber. This holds, apart from a wardrobe and a shoe rack, a panel of a security system, probably the reason for the keycard.

Tredd does not really care for the other apartments. He notices that Luche’s is the only one that has a card reader, but he does not pay it any mind. Instead, he nods and enters the flat when the blonde steps aside. He leaves his coat at the wardrobe and the shoes on the rack, waiting for the other man to get rid of them as well.

Once the keycard is stored securely, Luche puts away his coat and pulls of his shoes. He pulls out the cushion from his bag, putting that away at the wardrobe. The pillow in hand he beckons Tredd to follow. The antechamber leads into a big living room with an open kitchen area. The interior is minimalistic, yet classic and neat, in design, held in neutral grey, black and white tones. "Make yourself comfortable." Placing the cushion on the couch, Luche strolls into the kitchen to grab some beer from the fridge.

Tredd regards the living-room with interest, but then turns around to Luche as he disappears behind the kitchen counter. “Where’s all the Christmas decoration?” he inquires curiously, plopping down on the sofa.

"Do I look like someone who likes to decorate his place?" The blonde counters with a question, opening two bottles of beer. With the beer he walks back to the couch, handing one to Tredd, sitting down next to him. "I don't have any and I don't want any." He adds, taking a sip from his bottle. Then he sets the bottle down on the table in front of the couch and loosens his tie, that he puts neatly folded on the table as well.

Tredd shrugs. “As if you’d know by looking at someone.” He mumbles, grabbing his beer to take a sip himself. “I’d have expected a wreath at least.” He admits then, putting his bottle down. “Personally, I like the holiday season.” He grins, turning towards the blonde. “But as long as there’s a gift to unwrap…” he adds with a suggestive grin.

"I don't care much about it." Luche shrugs regarding the holidays, grabbing his bottle again to take another sip. "There might be." He replies with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes, putting the bottle back down on the table.
“Maybe you just need a proper reason to like the holidays?” Tredd muses, leaning against the blonde to get mor comfortable. Luche grins slightly, turning to Tredd. "Maybe." He murmurs, moving closer to kiss the redhead again.

Leaning into the kiss Tredd wraps his arms around Luche, sliding one hand into his blonde hair. He closes his eyes almost completely, pulling the other man even closer. The blonde lowers his eyelids, using the momentum of Tredd pulling him closer to guide him down to the sofa's seats, grabbing his tie on the way. "I think I'll wrap myself a present first." He breathes after breaking the kiss, the tie still in hand. His voice is something between a purr and lusty growl.

Tredd lets Luche push him down, blinking a few times as the blonde breaks the kiss. He gasps for air, eying the other man, then the tie, before his gaze shifts back to Luche. “You mean…” he trails off, his lips curling into a sly grin.

The blonde grins deviously. "I said you'll have to do penance." He answers. "And by the looks of it, you're going to like it." Shivering slightly Tredd nods, “I’m all yours.” he whispers, trying to steal another kiss, as long as he still can.

* * * * *

“Guys, guys!” Libertus raises his hands defensively. “That’s too many details!” he complains, causing Aranea to chuckle in amusement. “It was just starting to become more interesting!” she giggles. “Wait, did you really ask him twenty-four times?” Nyx addresses Tredd and shakes his head.

"You asked for it." Luche states dryly. "Nah, some kind of information does not need to be shared. Never heard of a gentleman's silence?" Pelna shakes his head. "Again, you wanted to know what happened that evening." the blonde replies. "Twenty-five, if you want to count that evening as well." Luche turns to Tredd with a soft smile. "But I'd say you were properly repaid for all of it." He adds more quietly.

Tredd nods with a wide grin. “Definitely.” He replies softly, raising his voice afterwards while he glances at Nyx. “See? I told you my night has been a lot more exciting!” he states, sticking his tongue out. Nyx snorts. “You’re exaggerating anyway.” He accuses the redhead. “I don’t know.” Crowe interjects with a smirk.

"He's rather understating." Luche comments dryly. "Guys, really, there are things, no one wants to know and that do not need to be competed in either." Selena tosses in. "And whatever you did that night, keep it to yourselves." She adds. "I still can't get over the fact that you both..." Pelna looks to Tredd, then to Nyx. "...that you both have been in a relationship for a year and kept that a secret. Especially you." He looks at Tredd again.

Tredd chuckles merrily. “Not everybody needs about a year to confess their feelings, but I’m sorry.” He replies. Monica wraps her arm around Pelna. “I can’t complain so far.” She simply says with a wink. “Yeah, I’m sorry as well, but you know I had to keep it to myself.” Nyx murmurs, shrugging slightly.
“You know what I still wonder?” Aranea wants to know grinning, “Which of the two is the greater fool, him or him.” She adds, pointing at Luche, and then at Tredd. “Why do you think they make such a splendid match?” Nyx asks innocently, causing everyone to laugh in amusement.

“That’s an official insult, jerk!” the redhead claims. “You’re off duty.” Nyx shoots back immediately. “I can change that!” Tredd retorts with a wry smirk. "Insulting an official does not rely on that person being on duty or not." Luche states dryly. "Well, that proofs they are the perfect match." Pelna chuckles.

“Hah!” Tredd smiles triumphantly. “What about him? He called me a jerk!” Nyx complains. "I don't see any insult here." Luche comments with a smirk. “See? And even if, that was only self-defense!” the redhead hums in satisfaction. Nyx huffs, giving Luche a deadly glare. “Asshole!” he grumbles, bending forward to grab his beer.

Luche shrugs. "Very creative." He comments dryly. "He's probably used to be called that." Selena giggles. "That and worse." The blonde nods. "No one wants to hear about your dirty talk." Pelna interjects chuckling, resulting in Luche rolling his eyes. Cor simply smiles and slightly shakes his head, wrapping his arm a bit closer around Nyx’s shoulders.

Tredd blushes slightly. “We wouldn’t be that uncreative!” he claims. Aranea laughs. “Nah, I know you Galahdians are masters at cursing.” She mutters. Nyx turns his head a bit, glancing at Cor with a warm smile on his lips. “What, are you too old for that shit?” he wants to know cheekily.

"Naughty talking and cursing are not the same. And no, we certainly wouldn't be that uncreative." Luche nods. Cor chuckles quietly. "Yes, one could put it like that." He nods winking. Nyx’s smile widens. “You’re not too old for me.” He whispers, stealing a loving kiss from the prosecutor’s lips.

“Get a room, you two!” Crowe chuckles. Libertus rolls his eyes and averts his gaze demonstratively. “You don’t have to observe them.” Monica interjects, lifting the corner of her mouth. “Yeah, we’re not here for smooching!” Tredd grins. “No, as far as I remember someone wanted to sing Christmas carols?” Aranea asks sweetly.

"Excuse me? I live here and you invaded my home." Luche retorts, though with an amused tone in his voice. "And no, the deal was no singing!" He adds, shaking his head. Aranea laughs heartily. “I meant the two lovebirds next to me.” She nods at Cor and Nyx, then tilts her head to the side. “Awww, look at his eyes, do you really want to disappoint him?” she adds, pointing at Tredd who looks at Luche with literal puppy eyes.

"Excuse me?" Cor lifts an eyebrow. "We didn't do anything that called for that remark." He shakes his head, smirking. Luche turns to Tredd. "Really now?" He asks grimacing. For a moment he looks like he is going to reject anyway but then lets out a long, deep and slightly harried sigh. "You're going to pay for this." He states, leaning over to Tredd, so only the redhead can hear the remark.

“Yes Mr. Grinch, let us hear your beautiful voice!” Aranea teases, while Tredd grins widely. “I’ll gladly pay for that, thoroughly!” he whispers back, obviously pleased with the outlook. “Anyone put up the camera, we might need some material for further ‘blackmailing’” Nyx tosses in with a laugh.

"Hmpf." The blonde huffs. "Don't you dare!" Luche growls towards Nyx. "Any of you." Aranea grins sweetly. “And what if we do?” she teases, reaching into her pocket to pull out her smartphone. “Oh, I bet that’d be a nice keepsake.” Crowe chimes in. “Yeah, to me, if anything.” Tredd mumbles, trying to grab the phone. “Forget it!” Aranea giggles, pulling it away hastily.

"I'd gladly sue you for this." Luche states, sounding serious for a moment. "Put that away or you can carol along all alone." The blonde crosses his arms in front of his chest. "That counts for you, too. No recording." He addresses Tredd, though there is something in his eyes that tells, that this only counts as long as the others are around.

Aranea cackles. “You wouldn’t dare!” she retorts. “Don’t forget that I also studied law.” She adds put puts her phone away. “Oh, I’m sure he would.” Nyx remarks, leaning back comfortably. “If I can’t record it, you’ll have to give me a private concert.” Tredd mumbles, grinning at Luche.

"I know. Yet, I'd dare, and we both know I'd win that case." The blonde argues, sounding confident. "I bet he would. And, from what I've seen in court, I'm afraid his chances are better." Cor asserts. "Much obliged, prosecutor." Luche grins. "Maybe after you paid your debt." He answers more quietly, addressing Tredd directly.

“Unbelievable! Stabbing us in the back! You should be on our side!” Nyx laughs. “I am.” Cor chuckles. “Looks like we’re done then.” Aranea chuckles once more. “We’d have too many witnesses anyway.” Crowe shrugs. “That could easily be changed.” Tredd hums innocently. “No more work for me over the holidays!” Monica raises her hands in defense. “Not a good idea with the Chief knowing everything.” Libertus chuckles.

“We’ll just find another occasion.” Nyx decides with a wink. “Hell yeah, how about a karaoke evening?” Aranea teases for fun.

"No, the only work now is to sing carols, unwrap presents and drink eggnog or mulled wine." Pelna states. "Right you are." Selena nods. "No way to escape that. Not even for Mr. Grinch here." Pelna giggles. "Stop calling me that." Luche grumbles. "And get on with it already. The sooner I'm over with it."

“Alright, alright, what shall we sing?” Tredd inquires, taking a sip from his beer. “Our favorite?” Nyx suggests. “Yup!” Crowe agrees. "Certainly." Pelna agrees as well. Selena just nods eagerly. "That would be which?" Luche inquires making a face as if facing impending doom.

“I saw three ships!” the others reply in a choir, looking pitilessly at Luche. “And don’t tell us you do not know that.” Crowe grins. “Yes, everyone knows it.” Nyx chuckles. “Don’t be that mean, I want him to sing more often, and he won’t if you keep teasing him like that!” Tredd complains, suppressing a smirk of his own.

The rolling of Luches eyes can nearly be heard. "Of course, I know that one. I'm no philistine." He grumbles, casting a quick glance at Tredd. "Why ever you'd want that." The blonde mumbles. "Let's get it over with."

The redhead smiles lovingly. “Because I’m sure that you can sing very well and just try to hide it.” He answers quietly while everybody puts their bottles down to get up and gather around the Christmas tree. “Okay, no videos involved, come on!” Nyx calls. Tredd takes Luches Hand, tugging him along to find a place among the others as well.

"Hmpf." Luche still looks hapless letting Tredd pull him over to the Christmas tree. Pelna chuckles, shaking his head in amusement of Luches behavior. "Come on, Mr. Grinch, the sooner we sing, the sooner you get back to your precious quiet." Selena giggles getting ready for singing.

“I’m not sure if he call’s that quiet, or tranquility, but he’ll be left alone most of the time at least.” Crowe giggles. “Okay Ladies and Gentlemen.” Nyx says, trying a stern look. “On three.” Monica smiles softly. Libertus nods. “One.” Tredd grins, glancing at Luche next to him. “Two…”

Luche just casts a quick cold glance at Crowe. Getting ready for the inevitable, he straightens up a bit as if preparing for a speech. He casts another quick and warmer glance at Tredd. "Three!" Pelna concludes the counting, signaling everyone to start singing.

And so, they do, everyone apart from Luche looking happy and full of joy. Tredd looks at Luche every now and then, nudging him a few times unobtrusively to sing the solo. Luche's singing is more a grumble deep down from the chest at the beginning, turning into quiet pleasant singing after a few lines, though he still keeps a low profile. Tredd’s nudging is answered with an irritated glance, in the end giving in with an exaggerated rolling of his eyes.

Everyone else glances at Luche in surprise, but nobody looks like they’d be wanting to tease the blonde for it. Tredd smiles softly, wrapping an arm around Luche while they keep singing. Once the carol is over, nyx nods approvingly. “It’s not like you’d have to hide.” He praises, causing the others to nod in agreement.

"Talk about hidden talents." Selena grins. "Just because I can sing, it does not mean I generally have to let alone like to do so." Luche answers dryly. "Maybe you'd like it more, if you'd do it more often?" Pelna suggests. "Not being that tense all the time would probably help as well." Cor, who really enjoyed caroling together, adds.

Nyx chuckles. “Listen to my boyfriend, he’s older and wiser.” He says, sneaking an arm around Cor. “Forget it, I’ve tried to loosen him up a bit over the entire duration of study.” Aranea tosses in laughing. “Hey, we’re progressing slowly but steady, don’t you think?” Monica asks with a wink. Tredd grins slightly. “Pssst, don’t tell him!” he chuckles.

"I can assure you; I'm not tense. Thanks for your concern." Luche mumbles, crossing his arms again. Cor lifts the corners of his mouth, looking as if he wants to comment but leaves it be.

“Alright guys, before this ends up in an argument, we have tons of gifts to unwrap. How about we get started on that instead?” Libertus wants to know, nodding at the tree. "That's an awesome idea!" Pelna beams, scooping down to start giving out the presents. After everyone got what was meant for them, some more food, drinks and laughters they part in the late evening, wishing each other a goodnight and happy further holidays.
