Work Text:

Oh God There’s Two of Them

It had been forty-nine days since Yuriko arrived and single handedly saved the country from the beastmen invasion, thought Draudillon with a slightly upset look on her face.

‘I have forced her to kill so many against her will, yet can give her nothing in return. Is my love truly enough, or will I always have to live with this feeling of inadequacy?’

Reading through daily reports that never ended, Draudillon was painfully aware that they would soon take the fight to the Beastman Country, and Yuriko… Poor Yuriko would have to kill even more. If only there was another way, the dragon queen was certain she would take it without hesitation.

She suddenly stopped upon seeing a strange report: a summary about the recent activities of two people in the Kingdom of Re-estize.

Everything in the report felt unbelievable. Could people with this kind of power really remain unknown for so long? The strong naturally drew attention to themselves in this world, no matter how hard they tried to hide it.

It felt like deja vu, almost as if…They were players as well.

If they were anything like Yuriko, the world was going to experience another huge shake up, and now these two powerful beings were headed towards her kingdom.

Was there going to be three Yuriko’s in the Draconic Kingdom? Gods knew she loved Yuriko, but the angel was a handful with how absentminded she tended to be.

‘But, what if they’re the solution?’

What if she could hire them to purge the beastmen?

If these reports were accurate—and they godsdamn better be—they should be strong enough to take care of any resistance the beastmen might offer.

‘I shouldn’t do this on my own. Need to go find Yuriko if they really are Players. Maybe she can come up with some failsafe should the meeting go south.’

Ordering her Gatekeeper to take her to Yuriko's position, she tried to gather her thoughts to see how she could discuss this development with her favorite angel.

Of course she only knew one angel, but that wasn’t the point;the point here was that Yuriko was her favorite!!

Upon reaching the gardens where they first met, she beheld her beloved basking in the moonlight.

For a few seconds, Draudillon held her breath. Despite being with Yuriko almost every day, she hadn't seen them look this… this radiant before..

They looked divine, for lack of a better word—like a real goddess, though of course she would never say it out loud knowing that Yuriko hated being thought of as one.

Draudillon stood there silently staring, until Yuriko noticed her presence and talked first. “Heya, did you need something? Aren't you still swamped with paperwork right now?”

It took Draudillon a few seconds to respond, still stunned by the sight. “Ehm, I read a strange report and wanted to talk with you about it. Do you want to talk here, or shall we head inside?”

“Sure, let’s go inside.” Yuriko said while standing up and walking over to Draudillon only to trip over her own feet and land face first on the grass.

“Yuriko, are you okay!?” Draudillon gasped as she rushed to them only to see their face burning red: probably embarrassed, but what else did she expect from her favorite angel?

“I’m fine, I'm fine!! Let's just head inside…”

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
After seating themselves at a table, they started discussing the topic of the new power that had suddenly appeared almost a month-and-a-half ago—too close to the time Yuirko appeared to be a coincidence.

“There's a chance those two are other players!? Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!” Yuriko babbled excitedly.

‘How can I curb her excitement when she acts this cute? C’mon, snap out of it!’

“So, do you have any ideas?”

“Can we invite them over or will that cause you problems?”

“Hmm.” Them coming to the Draconic Kingdom could be a blessing in disguise, but if they lacked guile like Yuriko did, it would be better if they met away from the eyes of the Royal Court.

“Alright.” Draudillon clapped her hands together. “Yuriko, we will invite them, but I’ll need you there with some of the stronger angels. You know, just in case.”

Yuriko jumped with joy at the prospect of meeting another player.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Who are these mysterious humans who suddenly appeared, and how will they affect our story !?

Find out… Right now actually, It's Narberal Gamma alongside the only remaining Supreme Being thanks to a berating speech they gave to a certain skeleton before the end of Yggdrasil: The Dark Mage Ophelia.

Our “heroes” were on their way to the Draconic Kingdom, both of them for reasons stupider than the other.

Oriculia Castle

“Your Majesty, the two travelers you have informed us about have been spotted in the capital.” Martin asked with no small amount of anxiety. ”Are you sure we should send for them?”

“Yes, I’m certain, Martin. Send for them, but make sure the messengers are as cordial as humanly possible. These two might be as strong as Yuriko, and I don’t think I need to tell you why that would be a problem if they were to turn on us.”

“As you wish, Your Majesty.”Martin answered before leaving to comply with Draudillon’s orders.

She looked to her side and spotted a very tense Yuriko. “What’s wrong, Yuriko? You were rather enthused about this situation earlier.”

“Huh…Oh y-yeah, I'm excited! Just you know, what if they aren’t nice or cause trouble? What if they want to destroy this place, but I…um can’t stop them?”

‘ No point in worrying since they were coming here one way or another, and it’s not like I could ask her to find a way to hide the entire kingdom.’ Draudillon laid a comforting hand over Yuriko’s. ’Worst comes to worst, I won’t run and leave the kingdom behind either.’

A few minutes passed in silence, with Yuriko fidgeting from time to time, and Draudillon trying her best to convey the right balance of hospitality and authority, though it was hard with Yuriko looking cute in the corner.

A knock came from the door, and Martin entered. “Announcing Ophelia Dusk and her companion Narberal Gamma.”

Two people entered the room after the announcement: a pink haired woman in a gray cloak that concealed peculiar clothes—a black shirt so small that it showed off her entire midriff with skin-tight navy blue pants that left nothing to the imagination.

The second one was even stranger, bedecked as they were in a full maid outfit, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was those bunny ears she was wearing.

‘Why is she wearing bunny ears?’ Draudillon wondered if it was some sort of fashion statement from Yuriko’s old world.

After stopping at an appropriate distance, they bowed their heads low enough to be respectful, but might have caused a scene had other nobles been present. Her decision to do this in private had been correct after all.

‘How do I act around those two?’ Draudillon analyzed the two strangers standing before them. ‘One of them looks like she’s waiting for me to announce her execution, and the maid looks like she’s expecting a fight to break out any moment. I need to break this tension if we stand any chance of getting their cooperation.’

“Martin, you can leave us.” The Prime Minister raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure, Your Majesty?”

“I'm quite certain.” Without his piercing gaze they might relax a bit.

“Welcome to my kingdom, Ophelia and Narberal. I hope your trip went smoothly.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.” Ophelia answered with a hint of worry on her face. “It was rather smooth. I hope this isn’t rude, but why did you summon us here? We have only arrived in the city today.”

“Worry not, and no need for formalities. It’s quite straightforward really. I’ve heard a lot about your exploits and while the Draconic Kingdom is no longer on the verge of collapse, it could always use some more helping hands.”

“Are you aware that we had a fight with the fabled Blue Roses?”

“I'm aware, but I would like to hear your side of the story as well.”

“Well you see, Your Majesty, my companion here wasn’t fond of their magic caster calling us a burden that would hold them back, so she went out of her way to make sure they didn’t get to join the fight.”

“And they got upset because of that?” She didn’t peg Blue Rose to be so immature.

“No, Your Majesty. They got upset when she defeated Skeletal Dragons with magic. For some reason, they thought it was outright immune to magic and kept hounding us with questions.”

“When we asked some questions of our own, the masked midget refused to answer. I would’ve liked to have handled the situation in a gentler manner, but even I have my limits.”

“Umm…can I ask you something?” Yuriko interrupted.

“I guess.”

“Are you like me, a play…um player!?” Yuriko said in a very timid tone.

Ophelia turned and looked at Draudillon as if trying to see if she knew that phrase. The dragon queen nodded and hoped it was enough to ease their concerns.

“Yes. Are you one as well?”

“Yes—yes! Me too!!” Yuriko babbled out loud and rushed to Ophelia’s side, but before she could hug them, she was stopped by Narberal.

“What do you think you’re doing, approaching my mast…” BAM!

Before Narberal could continue, she was smacked on the head by Ophelia.

“I’m sorry about her. My little Nabe here is overprotective of me, you see. Oh, and miss?”

“Yuriko, my name is Hanami Yuriko.”

“I don’t think you should hug me. Despite my current appearance, I am a guy inside. Just thought you should know.”

‘What kind of ‘guy’ looks like that?’ A sense of bafflement filled Draudillon. ‘His skin can rival Yuriko’s—and is he stuffing his chest?’

“Umm… not like that, Your Majesty. And no, I can’t read your mind. It’s written all over your face.”

Ophelia continued, undeterred by the bizarre topic.

“I was a guy in my other world, Your Majesty, but I preferred to play female avatars in games.”

“Does that mean both of you are um… you know.” Yuriko winced awkwardly, pointing at both of them.

“No, no. Nabe here is like my niece. If I forced her to do anything like that, I would feel like all the writers who insert themselves into a story just to get their imaginary waifus, you know?”

“Ahh, those guys were the worst, yep yep yep.”

What were they talking about? Waifus? Was that something game related?

"I think we have strayed a little off topic." Draudillon put a halt on the tangent. "Shall we move to a more comfortable location?"

With a round of nods, everyone decided to move to the gardens. Draudillon wondered if she should walk or get the gatekeeper to carry her.

Hmm… decisions, decisions…

Wait, she was already being carried—no, no. How did she play this off?

"Umm…Your Majesty?"

"Yes, Ophelia?" She hoped her expression looked normal. ‘Oh gods this is embarrassing.’

"That looks so cool!! Can I be carried by an angel too?"

What? She thought this was cool?? Did everyone here except her have these tastes?

"Uhm yeah, I have some here." Yuriko nodded.

With that an angel came and picked up Ophelia as well. Narberal however refused and started walking faster to keep up with us.

Once they reached the garden, Ophelia pulled out a table and four chairs from her Item Box. Or at least, Draudillon thought it was the same Item Box Yuriko used.

‘You know, at this point I shouldn’t be surprised at this of all things.’

“Why are you looking at me like that, Your Majesty? Doesn’t Yuriko have furniture as well ?”
“No, I didn’t keep any of those.”

“Ahh, that’s fine. I have extra if you need, but let’s get back on topic.”

She was looking at Draudillon again, but this time with more seriousness.

“So, Your Majesty. I don’t want to be that guy, but I have to ask: why do you really want us here?”

“You don’t believe the reason I gave you already?” She was staring at Draudillon with more intensity, but no malice. ‘She’s less tense but still cautious, good.’

“You already have her here.” Ophelia pointed at Yuriko while smiling. “And she’s been the friendliest person to interact with us since we came to this world, hands down.”

“Okay.” Draudillon’s mood lifted with the praise of her beloved. “I want to hire you for a big job. Taking the fight to the Beastman Country to be precise.”

“Ohh, do you want me to exterminate their race?”

“No. I only want you to kill the ones who have feasted on humans.” Ophelia gave her a weird look, as if judging her intentions.

“Hmm…And our reward?”

“Six-hundred platinum.”

‘Her reaction is subdued.’ Six-hundred platinum was by no means small, but it wasn't an appropriate payment for dealing with an entire country. ‘Does she find this too little? Our economy is getting better, but it’s still in the red.’

“I have money, Your Majesty. How about a counter offer?”

“What would you ask of me?” Ophelia’s smile grew slightly more sinister, but nothing comparable to the look Emperor El-Nix's servant gave her when asking for tribute.

“I want a permanent residence here, some place to stay between adventures. Also, it should be close to the castle so I can talk with Yuriko more.”

‘What!?? Why does she want to speak with Yuriko? Wait, could it be…?’

“Don’t look at me like that, Your Majesty. I’m not trying to steal your girlfriend. I just want to know more stuff about how she came here and such.”

‘Ahh, don’t blush, don't blush, Yuriko is blushing too. I can’t deny it or Yuriko will get upset, ehhh.’ Draudillon struggled to address the unexpected statement. “Please don’t tell the people outside. They might not be as welcoming to the idea.”

What? What was this pressure? Why was the Dark Mage upset?

“WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT GET IN THE WAY OF THE HOLY BLESSING THAT IS YURI? I WILL ERASE THEM FROM EXISTENCE!!”

“Calm down, Ophie, no ones getting in our way!!” Good, Yuriko was calming , but was getting between them really that big of a deal?

“But these people are against yuri, Yuriko, how can they…ugh fine. No killing them for now.”

“Miss Ophelia, please calm down. They are not against it; they just aren’t aware yet.”

“Fine, fine, back to topic Are we in agreement?”

“One house is a small price for what you are doing.”

“It’s fine. I’d rather not deal with the paperwork, but how will we know who ate humans and who didn’t?”

“Don’t worry, we have two visitors and a prison who are going to help with that.”

“Alright! Then let's go get them.” Ophelia stood up and started going inside with Nabe when, blam, she slipped and fell on her face.

“Ophelia are you alright!!?” As Yuriko rushed to her side she also slipped and fell face first.

‘Ohh gods!! There are two of them.’ They stayed like that for a while, not moving and looking a little redder in the face with each passing second.

“My Lady, how long will you stay like that?” Narberal commented while looking at the prone forms of the two Players.

Both of them stood up, looking a bit sheepish but otherwise unharmed.

“Well you see, Nabe… There was a scorpion passing by. Did you want me to let it roam freely in the palace?”

“It was uhm scary, and poisonous and and and scary.” Yuriko said while blushing.

‘I should just play along huh.’ “Well, thank you for saving me from this potential threat.” The two of them rapidly nodded in agreement. ‘Ohh, she looks pleased. Can I really handle two people who act like that? At least Narberal is calm.’

“Now, Your Majesty, as I was saying: under the stars of the southern cross we live our way. Life is in perpetual motion and to slow down is to be left in the dust.”

“Umm…Isn't that what's written on the Bluecow energy drink cover?” Yuriko asked with a look of confusion.

“Ummmm…NABE LET'S GO GET THEM FROM THE DUNGEON NOW GO GO GO!!!” Ophelia yelled as she started running randomly with Narberal following behind her.

“Yuriko, can you send an angel to guide them to the right room?”

“Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.” The angel paused for a beat. “I like them, they're funny!”

After a thorough interrogation of the beastmen captives and a long trip, our “heroes” arrived at the capital of the Beastman Country.

As they hovered in the air watching the furries of the country go about their daily lives, Ophelia wondered whether she should use the chance to unleash her chunni preferences now.

“My Lady, there is no need for you to sully your hands with these worthless insects. Leave the rest to me so I can prove that you didn’t go wrong with choosing me!” Narberal said with a serious tone.

“Naberal,” Ophelia suddenly shouted. “You don’t understand, I’m the chosen one and it’s my job to save Christmas!!”

“My Lady, we are in July.” Narberal deadpanned.

“Then why is it snowing, Nabe,” Ophelia took a pose that was too embarrassing to describe. “You see Nabe, no one’s going to steal Christmas.”

Narberal decided it would be better to play along with her Lady, “Yes, My Lady! It’s Christmas and you are about to let Christmas die!!”

Ophelia stared at the capital before turning to Narberal, “But there are so many, I don’t think I can handle all of them!”

“But My Lady, you are the only one who can do this.” Narberal took a deep breath trying to act the way her Lady wanted. “YOU ARE THE CHAMPION OF CHRISTMAS!!”

“Thank you, Nabe,” Ophelia said while beaming. “Now activate the voice amplifier, I will be generous enough to give them a warning.

Narberal used the spell that her Lady wanted; she had to admit to herself that she was quite curious what her Lady’s warning would be like.

“Hear me soon to be dead furries of all shapes and sizes,” Ophelia started, causing all the beastmen in the area to look in her direction.

The crowd started to shout at the unknown arrivals, but all their shouts fell on deaf ears.

“You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, but you are all going to die,” Ophelia started singing. “THE CHAMPION OF CHRISTMAS IS TAKING YOU DOWN.”

[FALLEN DOWN]

With a thunderous crash, a bright light fell upon the capital rendering it into dust. All that was left in the wake of the Super-Tier spell was a crater: empty and devoid of all life.

“My Lady, I wanted to kill some as well!” Narberal said, pouting. “I wanted some kills as well!”

“Don’t worry Nabe, we still have other cities.” Ophelia replied with a look of excitement. “I still need a new coat anyway.”

Before the two of them decided on their next destination, they saw something in the sky, shimmering as it rocketed towards them at a high speed.

“My Lady, that thing looks dangerous. We should retreat!”

“You’re not wrong, Nabe,” Ophelia replied, readying some sort of spell.

“Nabe, I didn’t tell you this before, but in case we don’t get our own fic, I took all the former Supreme Beings’ gear from the mausoleum. So now you better change into a set of stronger gear because this looks like it's going to be a hell of a fight!!”

“As you wish, My Lady… As you wish.”

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Returning triumphantly from their “fight” with the beastmen, Ophelia and Narberal arrived back at Oriculia Castle to inform Draudillon of their success at wiping out the city of furries.

“You…You wiped out the whole capital?” Draudillon exclaimed in shock and looked at them with slight terror.

“Yep, not only the males but the women and the children too.” Ophelia smirked happily knowing that her hard work was being celebrated.

Draudillon realized her mistake at this point: while she had prevented Yuriko from having to kill even more, this destruction was a bit more than she wanted.

But her thoughts were interrupted, “Say Your Majesty, do you happen to be familiar with a metallic dragon? Shines with a rainbow colour.”

“Yes, that would be my great grandfather, the Brightness Dragon Lord. Why are you asking about him?” Draudillon now asked with fear in her eyes.

Ophelia started walking away, carefully keeping her sight on Draudillon, “Well you see, we sorta killed him, k thnx byeee!”

Before Draudillon could process what she heard, Ophelia was already out of sight.

“Your great grandfather was a dragon?” Yuriko asked, noticing the visitors had already left.

‘Welp, at least I still got my angel here.’

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

“Forgive this question, My Lady, but why did we escape?” Narberal asked with some apprehension.

“Well you see Nabe, the Dragonic Kingdom is in a state of rebuild, so I thought we could use a vacation. I heard the mountains between the Re-estize Kingdom and the Empire are nice this time of the season. Hope we don’t meet any dragons there though...

“Please don’t jinx it, My Lady.” Narberal replied with a tired sigh knowing that they would definitely meet more dragons there now.
