Chapter Text
Antonin Dolohov coughed and tried to wave the dust away from his face. He wasn't sure if the collapse was over with yet. They'd been told the building was stable, but multiple blasts had changed that. As he went to roll over, he realized his leg was caught under a fallen beam and the fire was steadily coming towards him. He cursed as he tried to pull himself free. He had almost worked his way free when more debris came crashing down, burying him underneath it. He barely had time to shield his face. 'Damnit! Now what was he going to do?!'
His answer came in the form of two voices telling his name. "Antonin! Antonin! Answer me! Damnit! Where are you?" Corban Yaxley yelled loudly.
"Bloody fuck, Antonin! Where are you? I'm about to tear this whole building down! Answer us!" Thorfinn Rowle bellowed. Uncomfortable as he was, Antonin had to laugh. He could almost see the frustrated look on Finn's face.
"I'm over here. I'm buried under some debris." Antonin called out. Soon he heard them digging through the mess on top of him. He looked up in time to see the bright glow of Yaxley's flashlight. He'd never been so glad to see that glow! They got him freed and on the move. The building was very unstable, and they had to get out NOW! Just as they dived out into the clean air, there was a crash behind them as the building went down.
Antonin's friends dragged him over to the ambulance. His leg wasn't broken fortunately, but it was very badly sprained. The EMT suggested that he should go to the hospital and get his leg looked at, in case there was more serious damage to it. He was also advised that, as much smoke and debris had surrounded him in there, he needed to have a breathing treatment at the very least.
He didn't really want to do either of them, but with his friends frowning sternly at him, he reluctantly agreed. He did refuse to ride in the ambulance, insisting that he could drive himself. Yaxley overruled him about driving himself but didn't make him go in the ambulance. He and Finn drove him to the hospital. Finn's truck was huge and had a comfortable backseat for Antonin to relax on.
They walked in, Yaxley leading the way as Rowle held him steady. The nurse took them to an exam room and took his vital signs. After finishing, she told them a doctor would be with them soon. Antonin laid back on the hospital bed as he finally began to feel the effects of the firefight. Yaxley and Rowle watched over him as he fell asleep, breathing heavily. They weren't sure whether they should have let him go to sleep. As Rowle stood over him, making sure his chest was still rising and falling, Yaxley went to see how much longer before he saw a doctor.
Antonin jerked awake, groaning as his leg made its displeasure known. Rowle was staring down at him as he still grasped his shoulders. Evidently, he'd shaken him awake. "Antonin, how are you doing there, mate? You stopped breathing on me!"
"Sorry, Finn. I'm okay. I promise. Just don't let me go back to sleep yet. I want to hear what the doctor says." Antonin answered him. Thorfinn nodded as he leaned against the bed.
They looked up as Yaxley came back, followed by a white coated figure. He stepped aside, revealing a young woman who was very much familiar to Antonin. She looked up from his chart and smiled at him. He noticed that her smile didn't make it to her eyes. As she moved closer to check his vital signs again, he noticed the small swell under her coat. Looking at her left hand, he didn't see a ring. As he sat up, he smiled back at her.
He'd heard she'd gotten married earlier this year. He wondered how things were going with her hubby. Most of all, he wondered why she wasn't wearing her wedding band. She looked concerned as she listened to his breathing. He knew he'd inhaled smoke before he ever went down and had breathed in more when the building started collapsing. As she twisted and turned his leg, she frowned even more. He had a bad feeling before it was all said and done, she was going to put him out of work for a while.
Finally, she hit him with the bad news. He was to stay in the hospital for at least three days and put on indefinite leave until his leg and lungs were improved. Seeing as he was staying there for a while, he laid back and relaxed until it was time to go to his room. The only good thing was, he'd be able to see her every day he was there. Maybe, just maybe, I can put a glowing smile back on her face.' He thought.
Once he was taken to his room, he gave Yaxley and Rowle a list of stuff to bring him. First and foremost, he absolutely despised those paper gowns. Pajamas were a must. He gave them strict feeding Instructions for Sasha and Freya. If nothing else, he'd be able to bond even more with the kitten and puppy that he'd adopted two months ago. He wondered if she liked animals. He'd love to introduce her to them. He could just see them snuggling against her. He wondered how much longer she had to go before she had her child.
Yaxley and Rowle went to his home. While Rowle played with the animals, Yaxley filled out his list. After carefully measuring the cat and dog food into their bowls, he and Rowle headed back to the hospital to bring him the supplies he'd requested. They walked into his room and listened as he spoke to their captain, explaining that he'd been put out of work, due to injuries from the fire they'd just fought.
Antonin was pleased to see them. He shooed them out until he was in the pajamas. Then they were allowed back in. They stayed with him until visiting hours were over and they were kicked out.
