Work Text:

It was one of these snowy nights when the snowflakes were falling down from the sky, dancing around lit up only by the streetlights around them and the Christmas Eve was approaching. Aki found himself going home with this pretty devil by his side, both covered with blood after another one of their missions together. It's been around two years since they met for the first time, and Aki couldn't be in love. He absolutely adored his angel, it was such a shame we won't be able to make it until New Year's Eve just to watch fireworks in those red eyes he found himself losing in countless times. Unfortunately, the date of his death was approaching too. Soon, he won't be able to stare admiringly at Angel anymore, he won't be able to hold him through any kind of gloves or clothing. It will be the end and maybe, just maybe, they will see each other in many years, decades, maybe centuries in whatever happens in the afterlife.

"Would you let me kiss you, Angel?" he asked, softly. Honestly, the other man could barely hear him despite walking side by side on the empty sidewalk. Aki already knew the answer, and it was no - his angel would never let him do such a thing, not without a cloth or food wrap. They did it many, many times, hoping for at least a little bit of relieve - in private, they were actually pretty touchy.

Angel suddenly stopped, just standing there in the middle of their path, under one of many streetlights, too stunned to answer his question. He knew - they can't do it or else Aki would die. This was something they agreed to at the beginning of their confusing relationship. No kissing and no touching without a barrier.

"Aki, you know I-"

"Let me, Angel. You know I don't have much time left and… Is it wrong if I want to touch my angel?" he questioned, gently wrapping his arm around Angel's waist. It's been so long, and he always wanted to do it. Now, when he has less than a week, why can't he die the way he wants to? On his terms? With his angel by his side, being the one taking his life away from him?

The gentle gloved touch on his own hand lead it to the right side of his man's chest. "Can you feel it? It's beating for you and because of you. Can you do this for me?" he spoke softly one again, looking deep into is eyes like he tried to remember every small detail about them to have them on his mind even in the afterlife.

The demon really didn't know what to do. Aki was right - dying in the way he wanted was the only right thing to do, but… He couldn't imagine his life afterward without the man. How was he supposed to move on from every single thing they have done in the last two years? Aki was the only person that wasn't scared of being too close, who gave him the feeling of comfort and safety, who actually WANTED and TOOK care of him when it was needed. He didn't want to be alone in this world after this - he wouldn't handle the feeling of emptiness outside and inside of him. With his boyfriend leaning to him, he for the first time in his entire existence felt his vision getting blurred because of countless tears getting into his eyes. He was scared, but he couldn't say no to him. After all, Angel didn't want the black-haired man to suffer.

He didn't stop him. Instead, he placed his hands at the back of Aki's neck, wanting to pull him closer after their lips met. It was a slow, gentle kiss - just to etch in his memory their last moment together. The next thing he felt was a warm hand placing on his cheek. That was it.

"You have no idea how long I've wanted to touch you" he more felt than heard a soft whisper on his own lips, still trying to keep Aki close to him. Even after centuries of knowing his course, the quiet voice inside kept him hoping for it not to work this time. Only this time, he wished he didn't have it.

But then he felt even colder than before, noticing all the little elements that Aki was changing into from the bottom of his feet, going higher and higher. The last thing he heard was a soft-spoken "I love you and I always will" with as soft smile, after his boyfriend's face started turning into atoms, not living anymore. The last thing he remembers was him trying to catch him in one hand, then in his arms, until he dropped to his knees with a clinking sound of a sword falling right next to him. Without thinking, he grabbed it, hugging it to his chest and sobbed, knowing that this was the only thing left after the love of his life.
