Happier

Summary:

Chad arrives to his date with Rex early, surprising Rex and Camille with what he has to say.

Notes:

Gaymer Archive and AlastorPoltergeist 100% had me with this TikTok of Chad, Rex, and Camille... all the love for it. I'd gift it to AlastorPoltergeist too but alas, could not. Makes me wish I was more active on TikTok because their ideas are impeccable, always, but even with the cosplays I have completed the energy to put them on and record my ideas is just not there most days.

Work Text:

“Hey Rex…” Chad stood at the door to his and Camille’s penthouse, staring at his feet.

“Chad, you’re early. Camille-”

“She’s still here?” He looked up and for a moment, Rex thought they saw the hero look hopefully. “I mean-I was sort of hoping to-I was thinking the three of us could talk.”

“Come in and I’ll go ask if she has time. Okay?” Rex brushed their knuckles against Chad’s cheek, smiling at the way the man held their hand there so gently, and just for a moment. “You’re okay though, right?”

“Y-yeah. I’m just.” Chad looked down again, then back up at Rex. “Nervous?” His cheeks were red.

“Well, you have no reason to be. Help yourself to some tea while I go get her, okay?” Chad nodded, taking off his shoes at the entry way and putting on his slippers before heading towards the kitchen.

Rex went to the bedroom, knocking on the door once before entering. “Camille, dear. Chad’s here early. He said he wanted to talk to us both, if you have time.”

“What? Of course I have time for that sweetheart. It’s not a big deal if I show up to the art show later. Tell him I’ll just be a moment.” Camille smiled at Rex before returning her focus to finishing her hair.

Rex nodded. “He’s… nervous by the way.”

“Which makes you nervous?” Camille glanced at her spouse in the mirror. “Rex, I doubt that boy wants to break your heart. He’s head over heels for you and finally out from under his parent’s thumb.”

“I know. I know. But… he’s never-”

“Let’s not worry about anything that might happen until it does, alright? And if you need, I’ll cancel my trip to the gallery.”

“I appreciate that. Love you, Cam.”

“Love you too, darling, now go keep him company while I finish. You’re distracting.” She watched them smile before closing the door between them. Her spouse was always the worrier.

By the time she finished getting ready, with the exception of her heels waiting by the door, Chad and Rex had ended up curled up on the couch next to each other, holding a mug each and talking quietly. She stood in the doorway watching the scene with a smile, then walked into the room. “Sorry to interrupt this cozy little moment.” She sat down on the chair, closer to Chad than Rex but still separate from them both. Before Chad and Rex had started dating, she and Rex had agreed that they wouldn’t bring up her being included in their relationship, lest it made Chad feel beholden. So a little distance was wise, and necessary. “You told Rex you were hoping to chat with both of us, Sweetheart? What’s on your mind?”

“Oh, I-uh.” Chad set his mug down, unfurling his legs and resting his feet on the floor then looking between the couple briefly. “Yeah. If you’re not-”

“I can take all the time in the world. I just planned to go to the gallery to give you two a little privacy on date night.”

“Yeah, right, thanks. I mean- I appreciate that you’re so. Considerate.” Chad was blushing and Camille thought that was interesting. “Actually, I think I’d like you to be a little less considerate.”

Rex pulled back slightly, confused. “What are you saying Chad?”

“I mean-”

“It’s okay,” Camille assured him, looking at her spouse briefly to tell them silently not to overreact. “Take your time. You’d like me to be a little less considerate?”

“Yes I mean, no. I- that’s not- that didn’t come out right.” Chad was clearly flustered, not looking at either of them. “I like you.”

“Chad, I don’t want you to feel the need to dislike-”

Camille held up a hand to Rex. “Enough, darling. Let him speak.”

“I didn’t mean- ugh!” Chad stood up, bright red by this point. He curled and unfurled his fingers a couple times before moving to face both of them, standing while they sat. “It’s like, I can’t get you out of my head, right, and I feel like I’m going insane trying to pretend like I don’t feel more than I do and I want… I want-I want more than I think I can have, right? I feel like I have no self control and so-”

“Chad, Love-” Rex started, but Camille put a hand on their arm, quieting them.

“And I know that I already- I already have so much but I can’t help it, right? And so I- I want- I want…”

Chad was silent for long enough that Rex looked at Camille and she nodded. “Sweetheart, I’m happy to try and accommodate whatever you and Rex want. It’s about communication. And if you don’t know-”

“I want it all.” Chad blurted it out, looking at her, still scarlet, then held his breath.

“With Rex?” She asked, testing the waters. She thought she was starting to understand. He nodded, then shook his head. “With both of us?”

“I-I just want you to be less considerate about us dating and maybe intrude a bit more and maybe I don’t want to see it as an intrusion and maybe- maybe…”

“Chad,” Rex said, more gently this time. They got up, rounding the coffee table and placing a hand on his cheek. “Are you saying you want to date both of us?”

He looked down, took a breath, then looked back and Rex and nodded.

“You should have said something sooner.” Rex smiled, kissing the hero’s nose. “I would love nothing more.”

“Y-you would? I mean-” He looked over at Camille, blinking. Surprised.

She smiled. “Sweetheart, you have captured both of our hearts, of course I would date you. We just- we didn’t want you to feel as though it was both of us or neither. We aren’t exactly a package deal.”

“Really?” He said it so quietly and that broke Rex’s heart just a little bit. That Chad was so unsure about being so wanted.

Camille got up, placing a hand on Rex’s arm until they moved out of her way. She held Chad’s face in her hands. “You are one of the kindest, most gentle souls I have ever known, Sweetheart. Anyone would be lucky to have half the chance you’re offering me. And Rex. Do you understand?”

“I-” Chad nodded. “I really want to date you, too, Camille."

“Anything for you, Sweetheart.” She smiled. “Can I kiss you?”

Chad nodded and she pressed her lips against his, gently. He was bright red again when she pulled away.

“I’m so predictable.” He covered his face with his hands and Camille held a hand out for Rex, pulling them closer. “It’s pitiful…”

“Love,” Rex replied, touching his hands until Chad moved them and looked at the pair. “It’s wonderful . I’m so glad you told us.”

Camille agreed, hand against Chad’s arm. His blush was starting to fade. “If you’d like I could still go to the gallery tonight, Sweetheart. Or…”

“You could stay? I think Rex made enough food to feed an army.”

She laughed, nodding. “I’d love that. If you wanted.”

Chad smiled, that stupidly endearing one she and Rex both gushed about privately. “Didn’t you hear what I said? I want it all.”

“We did hear that, Love,” Rex replied.

Camille nodded, smiling. “And we couldn’t be happier.”
